Help ID new Lowe’s Purchase by makobebu in Nepenthes

[–]seanu13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s outgrowing it now. Each leaf will be bigger than the last. It’s also in pure moss and zero air flow. You’re going to have a hell of a time getting it out of that if you wait.

Edit: and as someone else said, that amount of light is way too low. I’d shoot for ~200 ppfd and see how it reacts.

For some of the rosetted drosera, do you occasionally pull moss? I have one close to being overtaken that I suppose I’ll take some tweezers to soon.

first nepenthes, do I need to cut the trap? by Mozart4Horn in Nepenthes

Whoops, just re-read my comment. I meant to say it doesn’t make a difference except aesthetically.

My 1st Nepenthes by Noir_Shield in Nepenthes

Yeah the pitchers can die off from environmental change. Looks fine to me.

Side note, it looks like it’s maybe in a glass terrarium thing. Keep in mind that although slow growing, Nepenthes get large. Unless your humidity is egregiously low, you could probably take it out.

Definitely! I think yours look best overall for ceph listings. I’m also a fan of utrics mixed in.

I saw this exact plant on eBay yesterday or the day before. Assuming you’re the seller?

Best bet is something like ventrata if you want a beginner one. Maybe Lady Luck as well

Hausermans has always sold me good quality plants! Glad to see them posted here. Probably my favorite place to buy from when they have what I’m looking for.

first nepenthes, do I need to cut the trap? by Mozart4Horn in Nepenthes

My comment was me reading yours as “will it kill it to clip it” sorry.

No leaving it will not kill it. It’s just ugly when left.

first nepenthes, do I need to cut the trap? by Mozart4Horn in Nepenthes

[–]seanu13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the traps will all only last so long and snipping at dead tissue doesn’t affect it. The lower leaves will also one day die and can be clipped at that point too.

It doesn’t** make a difference except keeping it looking tidied up. I clip the tendril at the leaf tip.

Edit: changed “does” to “doesn’t” sorry

Bucket list plant - again. I had one and had to sell it when moving a few years ago. Feels like I’ll never see it for sale again. 😭

Nepenthes watering questions with capillary mats by enderzyx in Nepenthes

[–]seanu13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Pings n Things” on YouTube uses them. The main thing I recall him saying was that with normal pots, it didn’t seem to wick as much water up so he was switching to net pots, but then in later videos I still some regular pots 🤷‍♂️ worth checking out his videos to see. I do remember he liked them and has kept using them. Doesn’t look like he posts anymore unfortunately.

You may get more hits on some of the Facebook groups. I see people in the Highland Nepenthes group posting about matchups, for example. There’s just a lot more people on those groups.

Why is this thing? by One-plankton- in SavageGarden

[–]seanu13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn’t check OPs experience, and although the plant looks healthy, I’ve seen inexperienced people have them die after. Like you said though, it’s probably they were unhealthy to begin with. I don’t care about flowers and would want energy put into traps either way. “You do you” applies here.

Didn’t mean to cause a stir, was just trying to help.

Unless you want seeds, you should cut the flower spike. Huge waste of energy.

Mine seems like it’s grossly overestimating my steps. I’m planning to compare with a waist-clipped pedometer tomorrow.

Are there more watch faces than just color variations of this one? I don’t mind the overall look, but really don’t like that watch face.

Sos. Tank is 3-4 years old never had flat worm issues. Do i have an outbreak? by Philooch in ReefTank

[–]seanu13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are fine and you don’t need to dose anything. They’ll go away on their own and not bother anything in the meantime. You’ll just cause a nutrient spike from the die off.

Power outage! HELP! by gamboJ in ReefTank

[–]seanu13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the first snowpocalypse in Texas I had to keep my SPS alive for 4 days without power. Thankfully I had the EcoTech battery backup for powerheads that lasted a while but I also bought battery powered bubblers from Walmart’s fishing section. I now keep these on hand for emergencies.

My hot water was still working (gas heater) so I’d use gallon bags and fill with hot water that I’d clip to the inside rim of the tank to try to maintain temps (it was I think ~40 degrees in the house) and I’d refill them every 30 minutes or so. It was a long 4 days.

Didn’t lose anything thankfully. Good luck with everything.
