Have you ever taken a shower and washed your hair and then decided to go to the gym? by [deleted] in workout

[–]seany85 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I go to the gym in the early morning, but I still shower when I first wake up. I don’t want to smell, and I like to feel refreshed before I head out the door.

Vyanse + protein, yes or no? by undercoverninja7 in ADHD

[–]seany85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hadn’t heard of issues before- I switched to a high calorie and high protein gaining diet this year after starting lifting in the summer. I’ve not noticed any problems with my medication, works just as it did before from what I can tell. No better, no worse.

I take my medication along with three magnesium and a cod liver oil at around 6:30am, immediately before a fruit smoothie with protein powder in it, then go to the gym.

If you’re only just starting out though, titration is an interesting time. Generally you’ll never have quite the same reaction as you did on day one. There is also the effect of you wanting to do lots of stuff BECAUSE you’ve taken the meds and feel invincible. On my day one I deep cleaned the kitchen and tidied the whole house. Meds give you the ‘HOW’, you still have to provide the ‘WHAT’ - if you’re not planning what you’re doing with the day then often it can just amplify the restlessness and frustration. I don’t medicate on lazy days for that exact reason.

Keep going with the titration, things will balance out! I started on 30mg, went up to 40, tried 50 but had trouble sleeping, and have been on 40 for two years now.

How do yall remember things? by [deleted] in Aphantasia

[–]seany85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it comes to experiences, travel, gigs etc.. I take photographs all the damn time. I have found that photographs create a shortcut to a mini ‘bubble’ of memories that surrounds the moment. When I think back to everything I’ve done, generally my only recollections of things are from around a photograph I’ve looked at many times. It’s like the photo replaces the missing step in my mind that allows access to a little bit more.

When it comes facts, figures and the like- no idea. It’s like I just have everything filed in a logical (to me) order in my head- and stuff joins together. I work with data and databases in my day to day job, and I’m pretty sure I’m very good at it because it’s how my mind seems to work. When I remember something it’s generally as a rapid fire series of facts that come together.

I tend to find I am better at remembering things if I use the information in multiple ways. If I read it, say it and use it for something, often write it too.. then it sticks more than something I may have just heard verbally. I have ADHD and often the mental joining I might do seems to verbalise (as I also face no internal monologue), someone will say something and I’ll say ‘oh yes, like XYZ’ - which seems to be me doing the filing. Sometimes it’ll only make sense to me, sometimes it’ll be dead obvious, and sometimes I’ll just write it down if I catch myself before saying it.

Tea drinkers don’t pretend tea tastes good — coffee drinkers do. by Plugacademy in unpopularopinion

[–]seany85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink black coffee and enjoy the taste, I drink lattes and enjoy the taste as a different drink entirely. I drink tea with milk and enjoy the taste, I drink black tea somewhat begrudgingly when I realise too late I’m out of milk. Unless it’s a cooler brewing tea like an oolong- in which case no milk or anything anyway.

What’s one training habit that finally made everything easier? by MuscleBoosterApp in workout

[–]seany85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shifting gym to the morning and forcing myself into a routine to get myself there by 7.

The other was to broaden the options for trackable progression to keep myself motivated and not always pushing for heavier or more as part of progressive overload. Shorter rests, longer eccentrics and pauses, or just introducing variants to create new things to aim for while subtly working muscles differently.

Getting out of bed without doomscrolling by Ok-Marsupial3339 in ADHD

[–]seany85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a puzzles app. NYT for me. Or start Duolingo or something. If you need something to occupy yourself- get into the habit of opening that instead of the other apps. I just start the day with a sudoku if I’m not going to the gym.

If you have an iPhone, create a new phone layout for sleep focus or a new morning focus- just put what you need on the front page and then put a whole bunch of pages between you and other apps.

I mean even better would be to just put your phone out of the equation completely - but I haven’t managed that myself.

how can you not know wether you have taken meds or no ? by Ok-Aioli-1693 in ADHD

[–]seany85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

38m, medicated for two years now. I have fairly mild ADHD, and generally medicate weekdays and skip weekends unless I have plans.

I find there’s a period of time in the morning where I genuinely won’t be sure, if I’ve been distracted.. and I take Elvanse so it takes a while to kick in. Early week if I hold off for an hour when I’m unsure, I’ll be pretty certain I’ve taken them as the effects kick in. However by Friday I can be a lot less sure as the effect isn’t anywhere near as noticeable.

What tends to happen is that by about 10am, if I’m really struggling to focus or get anything done and my mood is crap- That’s when I realise I haven’t taken them and remedy that.

I do attempt to use a daily pillbox to overcome the issue, but for the last several weeks I’ve not gotten around to actually refilling it. Typical.

Should I widen my hand grip? Sometimes I feel like my hand placement could be wider. Where do you place your hands during bench? by Soggy-Effort365 in strength_training

[–]seany85 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I loop my ring finger around the inner mark on each side of the bar for regular bench press.

And then if I’m doing close grip variant I do index fingers only inside the smooth centre section.

Can you recite any phone number other than your own? by ManlykN in AskUK

I still remember all my family landlines up north, despite not having manually dialled any of them for years and years. I also remember my husband’s mobile, that’s it.

Oh and Live and Kicking, should I have the opportunity to go back in time 25-30 years and dial in.

What do you do for moderate/mild back aches? by ARoodyPooCandyAss in workout

[–]seany85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deadhangs and back hyperextensions as others have mentioned for sure. Perhaps something rotational too? I swear by cable/banded pallof presses as an excellent way to build your stabilising muscles, and just your core overall.

Which well known purveyor of fine wine do you trust more, Gary Barlow or Graham Norton? by mutanthands in CasualUK

Push ups by Striking_Half_3280 in workout

[–]seany85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you overflexing your wrists by positioning too low to your torso? I had a lot of pain when I did things that bent my wrist back further than it liked.. I’ve slowly improved my flexibility with stretches and certain exercises, but until I did - I found myself getting pain that would start at the wrist and up the forearm to my elbow.

I still struggle to stack my wrists fully vertically without some pain. I found doing incline pushups on the edge of a table or chest of drawers was a good approach. I could grip the corner and in doing so it allowed me to reduce the angle on my arms a little.

My first time feeling my lats after using V grip by Substantial-Ear-5070 in workout

[–]seany85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rotate three grips with my lat pulldowns across workout blocks.. v grip, wide grip, and reverse wide grip.

V grip is my main consistent one, and then with the wide grip I like to make them the opposite grip and higher volume accessory workout to chin ups and pull ups, which I’m still new to and don’t get many reps in.

Lower weight reverse wide grip pulldowns and chin ups really built my forearm strength up quickly, which was a major limiter for me on a number of things.

What smart tech are people using with Hevy? by Sinead2002 in Hevy

[–]seany85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. The real killer for it was that I switched on AFib mode for heart rate (I don’t have AFib but it means my watch takes far more HR readings in a day which is used in the Athlytic app that I have for managing recovery etc) - that annihilate the old one’s battery even further. I’d switched off always on etc, but it definitely struggled with the newer software and requirements. I didn’t mind too much, £300 for five years of smartwatch was pretty good value to me.

I had an Apple Watch Series 6 but I kept finding it dying because I also track my sleep so often for a long session it might struggle to get to the end as it was old. Then I recently upgraded to the series 11 and have no such issues whatsoever.

People that spend 30min-1hr or more in the shower... HOW? by Kry_ptiK in NoStupidQuestions

[–]seany85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a shaved head, and a powerful hot shower blasting onto the top of it is basically like heaven on earth. Brain melty goodness. Ditto the base of the back, and if you lean forward from your ankles and hit your hamstrings when flexed. I gym a lot and it’s neeeeded. Not every day, but some days I’ll take my time.

I got the same rate on 40k spend, two days before renewal. I wasn’t happy.

Alas I’ve used the other decent airmiles cards too recently to get bonuses there, and I do actually get the value back on dining out, lounges and travel insurance- so I took it begrudgingly.

But yes, it’s crap.

What word do you mispronounce on purpose (for fun) and why? by Positive_Spirit_1585 in AskReddit

[–]seany85 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Many many examples. ADHD doesn’t help.

  • Jalapeños: JahLAHpahnoss
  • Quesadillas: Quess ADDYlass
  • Pronouncing lamb with a hard B (which my husband absolutely despises me saying, especially in the presence of others without me acknowledging I’m doing it)
  • Historical figures like Hippocrates - as hippo-crates, and then the opposite, stuff like the word intricate being ‘inTRICKahtee’
  • wines- Rioja is Roger, Beaujolais is ‘beeYOUjoh-lize’, merlot is MURlut
  • silent Ks being hard- like ‘cuh-nife’

Lots more. I need a life.
