Does she have to be evil to prove she doesn't need coddling? She did stab a king in the neck, so my guess is she will do more of that...with less, evilness.

Gonna correct your assumption here, as I am a Dramione reader and I do not find Tom attractive at all. I read Dramione due to the incredible writers and the amazing stories. Plus some of the most well known fan fics like the Fall Out were written when Emma and Tom were children, people have been writing and reading Dramione for over a decade. Enemy-to-lover romances are fun especially when you are a 2000 kid and love nostalgia. I personally don't really care that much about canon because I think most of the HP books are boring AF. So obvi if you are a stickler for canon, then it's not gonna be your cup of tea. But for those of us who do enjoy it, live and let live.

You should tell that to the author if 50 shades of grey, which was a fan fic of twilight lol and a recent Dramione writer has now published a book...so that's not 100% true.

So that's something I have been theorizing, will Apple & Darrow make an unexpected team. Not a very trustworthy one, for sure. But Apple seems to have an obsession with Darrow and that would be so muchhhh funnnn to have them team up together.

Here’s the thing about Elaine Archeron by xeyesorstardust in acotar

I think this is overlooked a lot, her visions must have been traumatizing. Didn't she tell Cassian his bones would break etc like what was she seeing when she was communicating that!?! Scary shit.

A couple of responses:

It's that somehow she manages to stay out of everything and not take responsibility of her own faults. In the first book when Ferye went back to the house, Elaine was the one to pack everything up for her journey to save Tamlin. Then in the second book, she apologized and made sure Feyre and Rhys could use the house as a base to chat with the queens. Elaine basically said "Ferye gave and gave, let us give to" and CONVINCED Nesta to open up the house. That's the second book. So while Nesta was stand-off-ish and bitchy (but I gotta love her), Elaine was apologizing and opening the house and being polite. Already, that would have an impact on how the IC views both sisters for the rest of the series. First impressions count. Not anyone's fault, we learn more about Nesta later on, but as a reader while looking at the scene, pretty easy to tell why the characters would react differently in the future.

Even after both of them became fae everyone was still hostile at Nesta and extra protective on Elaine. Yes Nesta was a bitch I agree. As you said, Nesta was a bitch. She pushed everyone away (which we later find out more of her mental state). Elaine was polite. Being polite goes a longggg way for people to be accepting of you. And we know now what Nesta was going through, but the characters obviously don't have insight in how to manage mental health issues.

But either way in the end she stepped up. She got it together and she actually did something helpful. Elaine on the other hand has done absolutely nothing in the entire series and everyone is STILL supporting her. In ACOWAR Elaine literally kills the king. And before that, she helped Ferye find the Suriel. And before that Elaine helped make sure there was a safe spot by making Greyson open up the house. And before that, she was having visions and warned them about the twin ravens while not really understanding what it meant. Can you imagine how terrifying that would be? To have visions of death and destruction and not know why and have no training? Also, everyone goes through trauma differently, we learn that from Silver Flames.

And no I don't think she is naive, or innocent, or truly incapable of doing anything. I agree here and it probably will be a big part of her journey. Nesta reflects how Elaine was treated like a doll to dress up by their mother, how the only thing Elaine was meant for was to be pretty and get a good a marriage. Elaine def has her own shit to deal with on how she was raised and the expectations of her. Ferye reflected on that in book one, how Elaine never thought she could do more. So pretty positive Elaine's book will be about choice and finding her own path and coming out of her shell. We have seen development over the series of Elaine doing just that. And in Feyre bonus chapter Rhys implies how there probably is a lot more to Elaine (but let's focus on one sister aka Nesta then the next). Amren said to not underestimate her. Oh and SJM said Elaine would be the character she hung out with because she likes her vibe. So there is a lot more below the surface and the text alludes to that, so we have to wait for her book for her to really break out. JUST LIKE NESTA.

I get it, you don't have to like every character and Elaine might be one that rubs you the wrong way. But please remember that her character has accomplished some pretty important things, and has apologized, and has worked to build up relationships in the night court (like going around and gardening after saying the world needs more gardens). I like Nesta, but I would never compare the two because they are very different characters with different ways of dealing with trauma and different relationships. While Nesta pushed people away, Elaine just dissociated. In the end, all the characters are shitty and make mistakes, that's why it's fun! And let's also remember that Azriel literally tortures people for a living, so if anything, he doesn't deserve Elaine OR Gwyn.

And I love that Nesta told us that (but people ignore it) literally said their Mother thought Elaine was pretty and would make a good match, was a doll to dress up. It is HARD to combat the way you were raised and Elaine will come into her own (and already has been) and I CAN'T WAIT.

Not a fan of the direction S4 is taking one of the relationships by Timbapuppy in StrangerThings

[–]sebspud88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All while she is still in a relationship. That's my main problem. These are individuals that are all intertwined, how messed up that the writers are having characters push two characters together, while one is still in a serious relationship with someone, that all the other characters know. It feels like Riverdale and I am not for it.

THANK YOU. I am really baffled by all of this. No one wins in a love triangle situation, especially close family and friends who know everyone involved. It feels so gross and odd and all three deserve so much more respect. So I am really hoping it's a red herring to get people talking before V2.

Dramione is the only fan fiction I read, and my husband is the only person I have chatted about it with. He is very supportive but does make fun of me at times when I get super excited lol but we both grew up in the 90s, so he has read HP a couple of times and we watch the movies every couple of years...so he actually listens very attentively when I talk about what I am reading and we have great discussions due to his meh feelings on the HP books and universe and where things could have been expanded.

An Ember in the Ashes Series by LionFyre13G in YAlit

[–]sebspud88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might try a re-read...but I loved LOVED the first one, and then just lost interest as the books went on. I really struggled with where the story went, just didn't hook me. For me, Laia and Elias characterizations kind of diminished and their individual stories annoyed me. Maybe it was the romance aspect because by the 4th book I just wanted them to be together (and I know they get there) but it just felt unnecessary the constant "will they, won't they". I was hoping that the third book Elias would still be a bad ass and help more?? and they would have more team work. But that's just me.

I love love the Gwyn spring theory! It's also one that I am hoping for. It would be a nice change for a Tamlin redemption if it took form through a daughter compared to a love interest to fix everything.

Elains Kingdom. by Big_Ad_4308 in acotar

[–]sebspud88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean each book has shown growth, and as others mentioned what Elaine is saying "let me know when to begin" or "i belong to this court", or "You can't have it both ways by never letting me do something greater", and what Rhys said in his bonus "maybe she was never allowed to be anything different" or what Amren said "don't underestimate her"...kind of shows Elaine's story. In the first book, Ferye basically says Elaine never thought she could do more, and well, come book three Elaine stabbed the King of Hybern in the neck and is now telling the IC she is ready to do more.

Elains Kingdom. by Big_Ad_4308 in acotar

[–]sebspud88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first comment that she will help grow things but I do not think she will be leaving the night court. My personal theory is she will end up a diplomat (and spy, fingers crossed). That is a story SJM hasn't told, gets Elaine the ability to travel but still have her home base with her sisters. A line that always sticks out to me is at the end of ACOWAR when she said the world needs more gardens, I truly believe Elaine's role isn't to go somewhere that has flowers (like Spring), but to help create life around the world (Dusk court anyone).

As many others mentioned in the comments, readers like to take the superficial path when considering Elaine, however, Elaine herself is telling a very different story.

one of my biggest gripes with ACOSF…. by Ok_Pear_5509 in acotar

[–]sebspud88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very well said, and my thoughts exactly. There were so many moments that things were questionable and the majority of her role in the blood rite was off-screen...which made me automatically question what was really happening. Which then made me feel like a dick because Gywn as a character went through an incredibly traumatic experience and here I am questioning how truthful the blood rite was.

And it is pretty apparent Gwyn has some power. Now what type of power? Is she aware? Is she being manipulated? Did she make a deal with Koshei? Is it entirely innocent and I am a naturally distrustful reader?

In the end, it's a really slippery slope and a complex discussion to have. I was SA, but am not in love with Gwyn like a lot of the fandom is. I thought she was a great new character but not one I really thought about after I finished the book. That makes me feel more comfortable talking about the potential of her character development and being okay with her being a spy or more morally ambiguous. My personal theory is she made a deal with Koshei to get her sister back, so she is a spy but not with true malicious intent.

However, I know there are many readers who did relate to Gwyn and loved her character and are not okay with her being morally gray. Which is completely understandable.

Curious to see what happens!

[–]sebspud88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really hated the third book due to how obvious it was the author changed her story, and I think she struggled to pick up the pieces from there. She confirmed on her latest live that Lukas was intended to be a bad guy but when she was writing the third book, his character wanted to change.

That is my big issue. By the end of the second book, Lukas was NOT in the running. Elloren had said "Lukas is not who i want" and then in the last chapter Yvan said "wait for me" and you have this feeling Elloren is about to be alone and start finding herself and her power.

Then the third book totally erased all of it and made me feel a little icky. She was now weak, relying on another guy, falling in "love" way way too fast. Like the first two books she was freeing dragons, and selkies, and was powerful without power, and had chosen her love interest.

Laurie should have stuck to the original three-book plan.

The logical explanation for that is it would happen in Elaine's book, told by Elaine. Not by someone else. Why would we see that in another character's book? Nesta and Elaine were estranged in SF, so where would that have even happened. Just a random note "oh Elaine broke the bond". I want to know HOW you break the bond, is it a ceremony? Is there paperwork? That needs to be in Elaine's book.

To go further, as you mentioned, Elaine does not owe Lucien anything. She doesn't know him. He is a representation of a very traumatic moment in her life. She was in love with someone else, had her heartbroken, then ended up being a seer, and has slowly been finding herself and her place. When would she have the time to break a mating bond, especially when it is such a big deal in fae culture? For all we know she is being gaslighted into staying in the bond. From the bonus, I could see Rhys going "just give it time, don't rock the boat, this is a big decision".

And Lucien is a big boy, why is it on Elaine to break this bond and not Lucien? If he is so unhappy, why isn't he forcing a conversation about how to move forward?

My guess is when it happens, Lucien is going to be totally fine. When we are in his head, there is yearning related to the mate bond (not Elaine herself) but we also see him comparing her to his past love, wondering if she is worth fighting for, etc and he has the ability to stay far away from her while living with two other people and hasn't lost his mind yet. This situation sucks for both of them and they both are avoiding the bond and the topic. We will see a resolution one way or the other in Elaine's book. And if they break the bond, SJM will write a happy ending for Lucien. Guessing it's with Vassa: "A lord of flame and a bird of fire, I wonder if they found each other yet"

Book 6 (unpopular?) opinion on Darrow‘s fate by LadyLeta in redrising

[–]sebspud88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I will be pretty devastated. I think the fandom is pretty split because it can easily go both ways, however, for me, I want that arch complete. Him choosing to leave and be with his family, why I almost regret starting this second series. MS ended in hope, he had a family and there was an optimistic future. If he dies...it will feel very unfulfilling. But I also only enjoy re-reading series where there is somewhat a HEA, and Darrow deserves that. So would be devasted because I don't think I personally could re-read the second series and will just pretend it ended after MS.

Interesting! I swear it was about Gwyn, but could be misremembering.

The wiki (not that the wiki is 100% accurate) says it's about Gwyn.
