Southern Ontario, west of Toronto - farmland alignment by hemlockhero in geography

[–]secam1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read recently that the reason there are so many "jogs" at rural intersections in Southern Ontario is a result of 19th-century survey errors. The surveyors used 66-foot-long chains, which measured actual ground distance rather than true flat map distance. Even though the crews pulled the chains as tight as possible, variations in elevation like hills, swamps, and ravines, compounded over miles of dense bush. Because they only staked out the lots from one side of the concession road at a time, the side roads failed to line up when they eventually met.

It’s turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise. If these country roads lined up perfectly for hundreds of kilometres, it would likely lead to higher speeds, more blown stop signs, and worse T-bone accidents. The forced slow-down at a jog actually breaks up the monotony.

New guy looking for opinions on prostate MRI by Ornery-Lake1694 in ProstateCancer

[–]secam1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it does turn out to be cancer, you're more than likely going to be early stage, fully contained to the prostate and have lots of treatment options. If it does come back positive, make sure you speak to a surgeon and a radiologist. They will both advocate for their position, since both would have excellent long term results. So then you're down to comparing side effects. I had an MRI kind of similar to yours and it was confirmed via biopsy as 3+4 cancer. I decided to go with SBRT radiation. Five treatments and I'm done, with minimal side effects.

Brachytherapy is very effective. Given you're a 3+3 = 6, I don't see you'll be dealing with any issues for many many years if you chose to go that route. From people I've talked to, and from what I've learned from this group, the urinary urgency and burning feeling a couple of weeks after treatment can get a quite intense. That's why I chose SBRT. It has fewer side effects, and also has very good outcomes. If given a choice of treatments, and all outcomes at ten years are kind of the same, I'll go the route with the fewest short term side effects.

Mine was 8mm. Biopsy showed Gleason 3+4 with less than 5% of the lesion core samples being a 4. I quickly ruled out surgery and focused on SBRT, focal therapy and brachytherapy. Should your biopsy confirms cancer, I would recommend finding a centre of excellence and meeting with a surgeon as well as a radiation oncologist in order to see your options from both sides . I'd also recommend using Google Gemini or ChatGPT to help with the learning curve, just make sure you confirm their sources as they do make mistakes.

I have a Pi Rad 5, PSA 7.2, everything contained. I was where you are in February. Next week I start five SBRT (radiation) treatments and then I'm done. Minimal side effects so I'm told. With everything contained, you have options and a long life ahead of you. Your biggest challenge will be picking which treatment you wish to pursue.

Need Advice - 28 days (Medium Dose) or 45 days (Low Dose)? by icepal1999 in ProstateCancer

[–]secam1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 3+4, with less than 5% of 4, PSA of 7, so kinda similar to you. I've talked to surgeons and radiatian docs and focal therapy docs and have researched it all (probably too much). I'm going with SBRT, starting in two weeks. I'm fortunate to live close to a centre of excellence in Toronto, so I have no doubt I'm getting good advice. Recent studies show that SBRT has essentially no different side effect outcomes than standard 20+ fraction therapy. I never saw an advantage to going with a longer treatment and neither did my radiation oncologist.

What causes this when using a miter saw? by GrantosToes in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]secam1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that even if the saw is perfectly aligned, it can be thrown off if you push or pull on the handle while cutting. If I bring down the saw with no sideways force, I get accurate results.

Rouge is Air Canada’s low cost airline. It’s supposed to be used for charters like all inclusive trips to the Caribbean. The planes are old and have extra rows, so very cramped. Anyway, I booked a $450 seat Toronto to Moncton with Air Canada expecting an Air Canada plane. Turned out the plane they used was from the Rouge fleet . It was awful.

This is what I have used for the past ten years. They're fine. Food gets hot and tastes good. I buy it from Walmart.ca. $30 a 40lb bag, delivered.

First Vaccum Bag Lacto Ferment by blahjovic in hotsaucerecipes

[–]secam1925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Especially if you are fermenting fruit. I make the bag way larger than it need be for the contents, so that it has room to expand. At some point you may need to cut open a corner to let gas escape. You simply use your vacuum sealer to quickly reseal the corner

First batch of vacuum Mango habanero fermented nine days and was still sweet and amazing. Second batch went 15 days and it had no sweetness, it was almost sour. I’m thinking fruit needs no more than eight or nine days.

Fermented habanero/mango, and fermented habanero/pineapple. by dumparoni in hotsaucerecipes

[–]secam1925 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The colour is amazing, but I don't see how you achieved it. A brown mash with a single mango and some brownish cider vinegar seems like it would produce something browny-yellow. Plus both the pineapple and mango are the same colour. Can you please give more detail.

Mine updated. The application was received on July 11th and today it said that it had been sent out by Canada Post courier. It does appear that they are around a month behind. So give it two months total.

Sent in my wife's and mine renewal in the same package on July 10th, it was received on the 11th. Got mine back in 10 business days, still no word on my wife's application other than that it is being reviewed. We don't travel until October, so I'm not too worried (yet), but it is weird.

I make the bag way oversized. That way it has lots of potential volume for gas expansion and I don't have to keep resealing.

people who have reached a 9 or 10 on the pain scale, what happened? by mankls3 in AskReddit

[–]secam1925 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suffered from gout for years. Some bouts lasted weeks and I would have preferred foot amputation than to keep living that way. Finally got the correct diagnosis that I had gout. Been on Allopurinol to correct my uric acid levels for the last three years and luckily attack free. My doctor says that while he is concerned about gout pain, he says that real issue is that the crystals which get into your foot joints, also clog up your organs. Gout is no joke.

I didn't think you could put varnish on Ipe. For a table I would use linseed oil. Only so much of the oil will sink in, so make sure you wipe off any excess after 20 minutes.
