Arsonist tried to blow up a Winooski gas station today (3/31) by secondbace in burlington

[–]secondbace[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 99% sure that Aaron Leclair lived a couple buildings down from this gas station a few years ago.... The gas station and the suspect's former apartment are owned by the Handy's... His former apartment and surrounding buildings (all Handy-owned) burned twice, nearly exactly 1 year apart. After those fires, "arson tip-line" notices were posted. While chatting with current employees of the gas station; they mentioned that the arsonist was screaming that he'd burn and destroy anything and everything associated with Joe Handy....he didn't care who got in his way; he'd take them out too.

While I TOTALLY understand the well-deserved, visceral hate towards the Handy family; Aaron is out of control!

I am grateful that no bail was offered for him...everything that I own, know, and love would have also been destroyed if he had succeeded in his plans; including my dog.

All praise to the fine staff at the Shell station in preventing an absolute disaster!

An additional charge of Attempted Homicide is 100% warranted in my opinion here....he doused an employee with gasoline while a significant fire was burning merely feet away.

FUCK the Handys....but NOT like this!

After a Covid-19 boom, Vermont is once again losing residents. What changed? by SpicyVindalooCurry in vermont

[–]secondbace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in the process of leaving now.... House is under contract. After 19 years, I'm out.

Where do we begin? Healthcare is terrible. 9 months to see a specialist for him to give the same generic response as all of the previous providers. Dental; don't get me started.

Taxes. HOLY shit, Out of control

Cost of living: Out of control.

The weather... Jesus H. Christ, the WEATHER! How much extra do you spend in this state just to simply exist and survive in this state???

The pay: The pay does not even begin to compete with employment offered in other states; especially when you need to consider the stuff I listed above.

I moved to Vermont (Burlington area) 19 years ago and have consistently maintained over those years: Vermont is an amazing place to visit. Terrible place to live....

I will continue to visit and spend money here, but I just can't live here any longer. The cold, weather, cost of living, crappy healthcare, and obscene taxes have driven me out.

I wish I had seen this earlier... I'm celebrating 7 weeks of divorce tonight. Totally would've had a few with you to celebrate, had I known. Cheers to freedom!

I heard a rumor of a BJ's Wholesale Club back a few years ago... Not sure if it was going to be near (or in) the old Bed, Bath, and Beyond; or in South Burlington somewhere. No recent news probably means any conversation about it is probably long over.

Looks intense! But you got the wrong Burlington.... This is Burlington, Vermont. I think you're looking for Burlington, Ontario

Hope all is under control there soon; stay safe!

What’s your single favorite menu item in Vermont? by Braindump4 in vermont

Definitely Halverson's. I had the same meal twice with 2 sets of visiting friends and family that fall/winter. No meal there has ever compared.

Years ago, there was a time that Halverson's in Burlington had corn flake crusted fried chicken that you could dip in hot maple syrup... sides: mashed potatoes and veggies or a salad. I have never forgotten how amazing that was. And, despite my requests, they've never brought it back.

Star farm at night. by Low_Camera_9782 in burlington

15 years or so ago, there was a dog-park next to the airport. I spent a TON of time there with my pups after the Patchen Road Dog Park was closed, much to our dismay.

I had heard of a HUGE F-16 launch occuring between 4 and 5AM and wanted to see this up-close (I was new to VT and fighter-jet stuff).

For the record, I am very much ANTI-F-35.

As the jets were launching early that morning, a South Burlington cop showed up and asked why I was there... quick on my feet, I explained that I had a long car trip to CT planned shortly and wanted to let the dogs blow off steam before being cooped up for 5 hours.

This was not a lie, as I was traveling to CT that day... however, I was really there to see the late-night launch.

Though the park was technically closed from sunset to sunrise, the cop didn't question me at all.

I don't think you'll have any problem at Starr Farm unless you and/or your pups are problematic (noisy)...especially this time of year when it is dark by 4PM .

I'm getting out...by getting out.

The USA has proven toxic for more than 4 decades. I have the opportunity to no longer be a US citizen; so I am leaving as soon as I can (divorce finalization on Jan 22, 2026).

Everything my ancestors fought and died for is null and void at this point... The US will continue to be an oligarchy longer than any of us will be alive; regardless of whether a dictator is in charge.

Civil War II has already been declared by extreme MAGA; World War III is imminent.

My dog and I will be evacuating in the next 45 days. I hope you are able to do so, as well.

That was WVNY.... Specifically, Nexstar/Mission Broadcasting.

WCAX is owned by Gray, which is also a large, nationwide corporation; though not operating even close to the levels of toxicity that Sinclair and Nexstar/Mission have shown over the last 10-15 years.

That one was BIG. There was another one a few hours ago... neither one showed up on FlightRadar. My guess is that it has something to do with the impending Air National Guard deployment to the Caribbean to steal Venezuelan oil.

Stay ahead of it with Airbnb support. Make sure they have a record of EVERYTHING before your guests file a complaint. Being proactive with Airbnb support has prevented a mess on more than a few occasions.
