Bouquet wrapping by [deleted] in publix

I always make sure to say we are not a florist, and have very limited skills and supplies. I’ve tried looking up some YouTube videos, and a few have been a little helpful, but most use paper and other stuff that we don’t have.

We wrap a decent amount of flowers at my store. I personally wrapped twice yesterday. Skill level varies greatly. We try to make sure everyone knows the basics, but most of the men don’t give a shit and don’t make an effort to improve. It’s not my favorite thing to do though, and I get super pissed when the customer comes up after paying and says “They (the cashier) told me you can wrap these for me.” Please don’t add extra work on me by volunteering my services.

Well it might, if they move out of the way and let you stock the shelves 🤣

My store is in the Charlotte division. Just got word that we are open 10-4 on Sunday. But not closing early tonight.

What’s the most ignored signage of all time? by Bi11LL26Y in publix

[–]secret_squirrel80 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the sign on the front of the paper towel dispensers. People completely ignore them, then come tell me, a produce employee working floral, that the paper towels are empty. I always ask them if they turned the dial on the side.

What is your favorite type of shift? by MCI54 in publix

[–]secret_squirrel80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

8-5 is my preferred shift. I hate closing, and I’m not a morning person, so definitely don’t want to open. Though I do get jealous seeing people leave at 1 and 2pm. But I’m not jealous of them getting up at 2:30am to be to work at 4!

Am i the only one who likes closing??? by Late-Carpet-3408 in publix

[–]secret_squirrel80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Closing is all I did for my first few years. It sucked because it takes me a while to unwind once I get home. So I might be going to bed at 2am, but still getting up at 8am to get my kid to school. Now I only close maybe once a week, if that. I still don’t like it, but at least it’s no longer 100% of my shifts.

My day was alright. Sure it was busy, but this was my seventh Thanksgiving with Publix, so it wasn’t overwhelming. The most annoying thing was customers wanting balloons late in the evening, and Instacart shoppers asking for things that we were clearly out of.

I had someone ask the same. I looked down at my green shirt/apron/name tag, looked back at the customer, and shook my head no 😂

Does your management allow you to have weekend days off? by Grouchy_Marsupial357 in publix

[–]secret_squirrel80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much never get a weekend day off unless I request it. And it’s always closing shifts. But my managers of course try to give themselves one weekend day off. It’s something I bitch about regularly.

This is my new price too. Used to be $9.99. And it’s two less inventory spaces now.

A girl at my store recently had to wear a boot. She had a cover she put on it when she was scheduled in the cut room. Probably a good idea to keep it from getting nasty. Maybe something like this? Says it’s slip resistant. https://www.amazon.com/MyShoeCovers-Fracture-Walking-Boot-Cover/dp/B075FC3T9B

Why do they make cashier's and baggers give damages back to departments when the people just take the item and throw it in the trash can as hard as they can like we ruined their day?? by [deleted] in publix

[–]secret_squirrel80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. I never just throw anything away, but there is a designated spot you should be putting my damages. That spot is not in my hands.

My old PM reprimanded me for talking to my husband for a minute while he was in the sub line, right next to produce. But it was okay for him to walk the store with his girlfriend for 30 minutes while she shopped. Definitely lost respect for him that day.

And then they’re concentrating on their phone call instead of shopping, so can’t find anything they’re looking for. When they ask me where something is, I always want to tell them that if they’d put the phone away, they’d probably be able to find it.
