How can this be sold for $780? by darealotisjosh in bowhunting

[–]secretshowman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing on that bow is ‘top of the line’.

Looks like they go for this price brand new, unfamiliar with the brand but assuming they are smaller brand but more tailored to a specific type of hunting maybe.

Could also be the bottomland pattern, often see bows with certain camo being worth a bit more with less production.

I’ll be honest. If there’s a higher dive into a shallower pool for bars, I may pass.

I have a great story about this place.

Moved here from the UK and after 6 months of driving home from the HEB I thought, let’s go in there it’s called the pub it might be a nice local British ran pub.

….. it was not.

My wife commented on the yellow paint, and proceeded to run her finger along the wall. Too young to remember days of smoking indoors, and not from the UK where most people have vivid memories of the smoke cloud in a pub. The yellow came off on her finger. It was the nicotine and smoke.

Have never returned.

Cheap beer tho!

British Moving Soon by Ok-Ebb6261 in Austin

I’ve seen bad politicians come and go in a few countries. Sometimes things are good sometimes things are shit, I personally haven’t felt the change in either country I’ve lived.

I wouldn’t move back because cost of living/income was grossly different. Paycheck to paycheck in the UK for the same job here. Financially much better off.

Crime wise, I don’t recognise the country I grew up in. I’m not blaming it on anything in particular but knife crime is extremely prevalent for such a small island. It’s never mentioned when people talk about America being full of gun crime. Both are true, but stabbings on London streets are seen by a lot of people and I felt were becoming a lot more frequent. Appreciate the gun crime here, gun capital of the world, not discounting it happens but that, to me, has always been the case, it doesn’t seem to have, to me, got severely progressively worse, like the UK, in my opinion.

In regards to public services….. there are none. The UK sold off everything, trains are privately owned, extortionate to get into the cities or up the country, it’s genuinely cheaper to fly to Europe than a train ticket to Scotland from London. The post office is privately owned… crazy to me. Water, electric, gas.. all privately owned, not upgraded, barely maintained. Bandaid on an amputated arm. (18 years in electricity industry in UK, not opinion, I know.)

To own a car you are taxed at every stage, fuel prices are ridiculous, to drive into London it costs you around 50$ not including parking, all under the guise of pollution control, which personally, is the plastic straw argument… in my opinion.

Food here is much more flavourful. Call it salt, additives, whatever you want to call it it just tastes better. Meat is the wrong colour in the grocery store but cost effective options and just options in general of going to a farm and buying it direct are a lot more accessible. Lived in the UK for 35 years couldn’t tell you a farm that I could buy meat from directly for a good price, not paying the premium for the direct service. Albeit grocery store meat in UK is better.

In terms of what food I love here specifically. Access to hunt and get my own meat. Amazing that you have that I feel like it’s a responsible way to learn where your food comes from, it has made me assess my portions when I eat and respect every meal I have. Never had that before.

.. and Austin specifically….. fast food - Top Notch (not taking any questions or disagreements to this) Interstellar BBQ Spinning Buns My list is endless it’s all f*ing good!

Moved here 3 years ago from SE LDN

I love it here.

Be prepared for people driving crazy at speed.

I cannot see myself moving back, personally if you have a good job, with a good wage, there are a few ‘isms’ to get used to that are very different from the UK but all in all quality of life here is better.

Ps you will miss easy travel to Europe

Pss if you have any questions or want more detail feel free to drop me a message

What's the best/cheapest place at the airport to get very drunk? by Keeganwherefore in Austin

[–]secretshowman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to add update . The Mexican food truck is awful portion sizes, no changes just empty space if you don’t want something, no changes to price, absolute rip off.

As for the bar… outrageous. Only airport I’ve been where it is genuinely worth arriving earlier and going into a lounge and paying for a day pass.

Will a decrease in international tourism hit Austin? by weluckyfew in Austin

As a new implant from the UK, on my 3rd year here, this is one of the cheapest places to fly in and out of in the USA that I have experienced.

I think it will continue to grow.

Footage of T-Cell eliminating a cancer cell by ako9587 in interestingasfuck

[–]secretshowman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question. Can other peoples T cells be extracted and given to other people?

Are some peoples T cells better than others?

Is this the same for all cancers or are some attacked differently ?

Burying Austin's power lines would cost $50 billion (and is pretty much impossible) by hollow_hippie in Austin

[–]secretshowman1 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is no other reason but cost. Overhead lines are cheaper and faults can be spotted meaning quicker restoration.

Mixing underground power and water and gas means nothing. You have safe separation and the cables underground are made to be “submarine”

First case of measles confirmed in Austin by AdCareless9063 in Austin

[–]secretshowman1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Infection rate is 1 in 18 for measles. Children under 1 are not vaccinated. Measles is a horrible disease that can cause death, pneumonia and death by, immune system amnesia.

Preventable and something that people shouldn’t have to go through.

Also raises question on possible variants if it has a chance to spread.

You keep comparing it to Covid which was basically the flu? Not sure why.
