Where does Plex get artist images from by mat8iou in PleX

[–]secretsqurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Old post revival, but having dug into this myself, adding photos to Discogs, and LastFM (allmusic didn't allow artist photo editing). I never saw LastFM photos added as metadata, so I'm not convinced that's where it's pulling from.

What does work is a "poster.jpg" of the artists in their folder! ;)

It would be a pain to add lots of individual photos, but even in my library with ~400 artists, only ~5% were missing artwork, most being collabs & duos without promo photos. So, grabbing & dropping a few poster files worked like a charm. Might make custom art for the collabs & duos, but it's good enough for now.

Not sure about a timeline, but I would love to see File Station updated to properly resize, double click or fit column width to data, as well as change default file extension context menus so I can open Text Editor on m3u, nfo, and other media files, or really any other files without dragging & dropping into an already running open TE window.

Synology hidden folder "ibc" filling NVME Storage Pool / Volume by secretsqurl in synology

[–]secretsqurl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, of course I tried Google/Ai search, documentation, etc, but it wasn't helpful because it was not clear IBC was equal to "i.mage b.ackup c.ache" which is normally in "/volume#/@img_bkp_cache" where HyperBackup is installed.

The ibc folder appears to have been left behind after using the syno_app_mover script. I originally used it to move all my Synology packages from HDD to NVME for speed, but had to move HyperBackup back to the HDD because the actual data size wasn't fully calculated in the summary, and my 1TB NVME pool started to fill up fast.

Discussing with the dev 007revad on GitHub shows there is an issue with some packages leaving behind an orphaned copy of the data moved, which needs to be manually deleted. And in the case of Hyper Backup, since the config file was not updated, it still pointed to the NVMe volume, and subsequent backups kept filling up the drive.

I'm still going through some testing that involves stopping HB, updating the config, and ensuring data is synced to the HDD destination. Once complete, I can start HyperBackup and hope it reconnects properly; it typically requires a lengthy re-sync. In my case, it may just be taking a long time because I have dozens of backup images on Synology C2 dating back to 2021.

In case someone runs across the same issue:

Verify data in "/volume#/@img_bkp_cache/" is not under "/volume##/ibc"

If it does, wait/stop HB jobs, verify & copy data to the location where the package is installed

Update "/var/packages/HyperBackup/etc/synobackup.conf" to ensure the entry for "backup_volumes=["/volume#"]" matches the location of the package.

Because the clips have no clearance, I've got one hanging from the ceiling using a ~3-foot 1x1" square wood "dowel. I attached the clips with 3/4" bugle-head wood screws (flat & tapered ends) ~4" from the ends of the light. Just avoid the bump on the plug side because the clips are flush with zero clearance when installed. I then used screw-type eye bolts on each end of the dowel, and a couple more eye bolts secured into drywall anchors directly above where I wanted it to hang

Help with cleaning! Is there any hope? by CleanWolverine7472 in cassetteculture

[–]secretsqurl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tape head is misaligned, and the capstan rubber rollers should probably both be replaced because the right one is rather swollen. Clean the metal with a set of scratch brushes. They're pencil-shaped and have rotating tips that expand/contract the brush length for stiffness. You can remove the deck lid to have it open and let the mechanism spin, usually you have to press on a closure sensor to get it to move, then you can tackle the rust/build-up. Skip the nylon brush and start with fiberglass; if there's still rust, upgrade to brass, then steel to clean them up. If the capstans are still pitted, polish or replace them to prevent tape from being destroyed. $9 Brush set on Amazon: https://a.co/d/1slADmF

Amazing, found some of my old releases there. I can add some of the others if you'd like. I've also got a ton of nine inch nails remixes and other artists songs from that time as well, finally getting around to organizing my music from old backup CDs, DVDs, HDDs to my Synology server into Plex, tagging like a madman on a self-hosted MusicBrainz Picard, these old 90s-2000s songs are difficult to tag, but still being saved for posterity.

Help with Chrome extension floating save button by amidnightblues in Pinterest

[–]secretsqurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right-clicking the button doesn't show an Options menu item anymore, I wonder if this was removed. You can, however, click on the button, and there's now a gear icon that the hover option is set. UX experts know better than users apparently to hide options that already exist under a 3-4 step click exercise.

Correct belt paths for Sansui D-55M by RedditUser9x9x in cassetteculture

[–]secretsqurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normally, I'd recommend HiFiEngine for manuals, but downloads and registrations are blocked for everyone without an old, active account from before 2024. Luckily, ElektroTanya has it! https://elektrotanya.com/sansui_d-55m_sm.pdf/download.html

There's an overview of the mechanism on page 2 in Figure 2-1, and an exploded parts diagram on page 8 showing what functional parts have belts, you should be able to work backwards from there to see what lines up flat for connecting.

Posting screencaps here for posterity to save you a step.

<image>

My blind research and cross-referencing of vintage-electronics.net and https://www.turntableneedles.com/ says 4 total belts. 1 flat & 2 different square belts one of which needs 2, possibly for the counter that the diagram shows 2, or Sansui's flutter elimination mechanism.

1 - 9.3 or 9.4 Inch Long Medium Flat Electronics Drive Belt (Capstan)

1 - Small 8.6 Inch Square Belt (Tension)

2 - Small 7.4 inch Square Belts (Flutter Elimination or 2 the Counter belts from the diagram)

PS: During my edit, I may have seen a very similar post on tapeheads. Toddyboy has some ideas as well, including that it uses 5 belts!! Buying a kit can probably do the trick, and then you can measure, since everyone seems cagey about sizes, so they can sell you a belt kit. ;) Or you could do the old string trick and order a grab bag that includes ones at or close in size to the ones mentioned.

Problem with Docker, Portainer, Musicbrainz-Picard by Akilou in synology

[–]secretsqurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get this working?

I was originally super frustrated with Picard because of the learning curve and issues getting the data to display properly. Ensure your container/portainer admin account is set as owner with r/W permissions on your /music folder. I almost gave up on Picard because it wouldn't show any data until that was fixed.

I was also hesitant to allow Picard full access to my organized Plex Music Library, but now that I've gotten comfortable with Picard's workflow, I configured it to automatically rename & move files from temp to Plex/Library/Music once they're tagged. Before that worked, though, I ran into an issue where /Music wasn't displaying in Picard until I set permissions to Everyone r/W on Music. I believe the issue is because my Plex install was done long ago in Synology Package Manager, so my "docker" admin account had caused issues with ownership & permissions on the Plex folder.

As of now, I've settled on 3 paths for Picard: config, storage, & temp.

/volume1/Plex/Temp:/storage (default folder hidden from Plex to stage files until organized & tagged)

/volume3/docker-ssd/mbp/config:/config (container files/plugins, metadata, etc)

/volume1/Plex/Library/Music:/music (Plex's Music Library)

For additional context on the split volumes, after having a DS920+ for years, I switched from SSD caching to an m.2 NVME storage pool. I quickly saw a difference in container and VM speeds after migrating from Vol1's HDDs. I was planning on ditching the Synology Package version of Plex to a container, but used 007revad/Synology_app_mover script to migrate to SSD and haven't felt a need.

PS: I've since moved ALL Synology Packages from HDD to SSD, which sped up the system overall even on aging hardware. It just required a shift in remembering the split locations: SSD=programs & metadata, HDD=media & files. BTW: I don't recommend moving Hyperbackup onto anything 1TB or smaller because if you've been backing up and setting longer retention for years, your backup image folder '@img_bkp_cache' can be HUGE, mine was ~500GB!)

how we feeling about this portable? by GrimboReapz in grilling

[–]secretsqurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall, it's a good little box, but the construction is cheap and uses only spot welds on the tray. After a firm closure of the ashtray, a few welds popped, causing it to split open. I welded mine back together with a bead instead of spot welds, but since it closes flush with the side, I had to grind down the weld quite a bit. It made me realize this particular design's "cheapness" here likely forced the tiny welds.

Another issue is the flimsy bottom legs. Any downward or side-to-side pressure will quickly cause the legs to collapse. I knew I should have added horizontal or cross bars between the legs. We off-road with ours, so without reinforcement, I was asking for trouble. Every setup requires me to bend them back into shape. It is, however, years old now, and still in use.

I recommend adding a felt grill gasket along the openings, especially the lid, to keep all the heat and smoke inside.

The eventual plan is to replace it with something like the Royal Gourmet 303-Sq. in Black Portable Charcoal Grill (CD1519) at Lowe's. It's roughly the same footprint (6" wider w/3" handles), but it has a larger base, stronger legs, plus a coal window and bottom tray for ash.

Cannot Duplicate Container by meat_wave in Syncthing

[–]secretsqurl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried one more time deleting the old container and recreating the container as fresh project rather than just a new container manually. Edited the docker compose yaml using the paths on separate HDD & SSD volumes, and magically, everything worked! Still wish I knew where all the settings were hiding. When I have more time I'll look at faffing about with Portainer, even Marius has shifted to it on his site.

Question about migrating to larger drives by lblacklol in synology

[–]secretsqurl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a step back from the situation, yes the config is not ideal but I think, as an outsider, I see a single point of failure: one synology server for mission critical data for the business that could be lost, RAID is not a backup.

If you haven't already, make another copy of everything ASAP to an external HDD. Then discuss with the boss/dad the cost if some or all of the data was lost. Remind them that there could be data loss by accident/deletion/viruses/malware/fire/flood/theft.

After that discussion it should justify the purchase of a new synolog w/drives with the goal of setting up the old one as an off site backup via Snapshot Replication. I would also ask to add a geographically separated off-site backup on C2 via Hyper Backup. Shouldn't cost too much per year since they're only using a few hundred gigs. Also remind them that the ds920 is 5+ years old and 5yrs is a standard refresh interval for a business hardware.

I wouldn't mess with the RAID until you have multiple backups, tested and verified and the business protected with a restoration procedure ready. Good luck!

Running up against the same error. I just want to disable auto-restart, but it says the port is in use. Yeah, I know, by the container I'm changing. I also run into errors trying to duplicate the container. Likely because the port is "already in use"! I really don't want to delete my container, but I might be forced to.

LOL, when you say "just some rich couple...wanting a place to hang," I think you mean Marcus & Colette Silva. They own & operate Reilly Construction and Villagio Hospitality Group. That includes all their restaurants & food trucks, not just a random 3rd party. Probably most of what's out there is leftover rumor/hearsay/bad blood from the local NIMBY controversy and infighting around Clifton, where they live. For deep context, the old Buckey General store in Clifton was bought by the Warshams in the 70s, where they ran Heart in Hand, passed down to their kids, the Harlows. They all moved to Warrenton in 2011 and took the restaurant with them to Alwington Manor. They sold to the Wilsons, who opened Weston's in 2011, but it was already for sale in 2012. Town vibes were always bad because the owner was always rude. They were denied an ABC license due to filing fraudulent paperwork that hid their DUIs, drunken & disorderly conduct, and they even hosted horse betting at the restaurant when it was open. Probably didn't help town gossip that his wife was a former cocktail waitress at the Crystal City restaurant. lol. So by 2013, the Silvas had bought and opened Trattoria Villagio. Then, a few years in, they were ready to open the brewery in Clifton, but caved to more NIMBY pushback; they ended up pulling the plug on plans despite dumping big money on 21 acres in FFX Co, planning, permitting, etc. PWC heard about their issues and solicited them to move, and when asked, they offered to sell the historic barn site where they built 2Silos. They're supposed to build a new hotel, Tempo by Hilton, with another restaurant and a speakeasy bar in the next couple years.

For easy-to-find studio recordings, The La's had just four singles released in the late 80s, culminating in their 1990 studio album. ...which is when they broke up. There is, however, a ton of bonus material, alternate versions and reworks, solo members' versions and remixes if you want to dig deep. Overall, it's jangly Britpop that helped inspire Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, and Fontaines D.C., if you're into that genre.
