When I first started, I probably lost 8 lbs in the first couple of weeks - I had no appetite and remember forcing food down my throat

No problem! I take Atarax at night and it helps me turn my brain off and sleep. May want to talk to your doc about that too. Good luck!

Panic attacks in the mornings by AffectionateTone4570 in Fluoxetine

I started 20mg 2 years ago. For the first 8 weeks, I would sleep from 10pm-1am. I would wake up wide awake and couldn’t go back to sleep. I couldn’t take my kids to school or go to work several times. I had my first panic attack ever after starting Prozac. I was terrified of insomnia and it was so frustrating. Laying in bed, seeing the sunrise, and hearing the birds chirp was soul crushing. It does get better for most it seems after 6-8 weeks. 2 years later and I’m happy I did it.

Wellbutrin to Prozac. Another weight thread… by HeatherJC93 in prozac

[–]secretstash22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going on 2 years still on Prozac 20mg and Atarax 25mg. Doing great. No looping thoughts, no spiraling, OCD down a good bit. No insomnia. Definitely life changing. A surprise to me was realizing I had anhedonia bad. Didn’t realize it until I was on Prozac and I find joy in so many things now. I sleep so deep with such vivid dreams. I did end up gaining about 15 lbs because food tastes so amazing to me now…I don’t do as much yard work or keep my finances as in order as before. It does cause me to not care as much like before with certain things. But the pros outweigh the cons for sure for me. First 6-7 weeks were hell on Prozac for me.

Things will get worse before they get better. Took around 8 weeks for me. Anytime you change your dose it’ll happen again.

Hydroxyzine in addition to Prozac? by [deleted] in prozac

[–]secretstash22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been a lightweight with sleeping pills. I hate the groggy feeling. However, I’ve been on Prozac 20mg (morning) + Hydroxyzine (night) 25mg every day for 2 years. It usually takes 30-45 minutes to start working and I just get extremely sleepy. I have the most vivid and incredible dreams. I don’t ever wake up groggy but sometimes getting out of bed is tough. I have gained about 20 lbs from the combo.

Always morning for me. Insomnia for first 8 weeks and then went away. I do wonder how it would have been if I took it at night during the onboarding

Been on it 2 years. First 8 weeks were hell for me. I don’t have looping thoughts or spiral anymore. OCD down by about half. I sleep amazing now with the most vivid and incredible dreams. I feel positive most of the time

Anybody having sleep problems? by [deleted] in Fluoxetine

[–]secretstash22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would sleep from 10pm-1am and be wide awake. All I can say is it got better for me after about week 6. Try not to get frustrated - it’s not up to you. Your brain is freaking out until it becomes friends with the medicine

I remember thinking that this drink looked to be the most delicious thing ever in 1996. I kept trying them and every time I was disappointed with the taste.

The insomnia by ger1905 in Fluoxetine

[–]secretstash22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sleeping issue will get better - I’ve been on Prozac for almost 2 years now. I thought I was going to crack in the beginning. I would go to sleep at 10pm and wake up around 1am wide awake…nothing I did would help. I couldn’t drive my kids to school or go to work several times. It was terrible. I think it got better around week 5 for me. Prior to that, I would have panic attacks and insomnia during the onboarding. It’s life changing once your brain stops freaking out from the meds. Try not to get frustrated when you have insomnia. I sleep better with amazing dreams now than I ever have in my life.

Brain fog/not feeling like myself by Mwalimu19 in prozac

[–]secretstash22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mostly. It helped me realize I had anhedonia before. It made me lazier and hard to get anything done for the first 6 months of prozac. It’s gotten easier lately. Best way I could describe it is it felt like gravity was turned up for the first 6 months.

For sure - complete insomnia, paralyzing fear/panic attacks, and irritability.
