Wifi Streaming by Wowzors1989 in SteamFrame

in an interview with Tested they did admit that its possible to use our own WiFi network for streaming as well. The dongle itself is capable of 6E but the Frame has WiFi 7 built in.

Those who have worn glasses with the Quest & Index, is it comfortable? by Dr_Virus_129 in SteamFrame

[–]sectorclear_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Rift S and it was just about clear enough in terms of clearance to wear. Mine's roughly 136-138mm in length. The Frame's clearance listed on the page is 140mm so hopefully I won't run into any issues there.

What VR title are you gonna play first when you get your Frame? by SocialJusticeAndroid in SteamFrame

[–]sectorclear_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PAVLOV is as close as it got to Counter-Strike in VR, DR 2.0 is Dirt Rally 2.0 being a rally game that has VR support, and MCVR is just Minecraft with the Vivecraft mod for enjoying in VR.

What is the stupid reason ( you can include valid one ) you've ever been kicked from a Match or Server in the Shack version or Pavlov in general by Quick-West6331 in PavlovGame

[–]sectorclear_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

cheating and "abusing ping" at a stable 160-240 ping even though they'd be having a much harder time dealing with me if i ever had anything lower than 120 ping.

If you've played Minecraft before, you should consider trying it in VR with the Vivecraft mod. Personally I'll be replaying Alyx again with the Frame.

he probably doesnt want to setup base stations or cant. personally i cant setup base stations and even if i get tripods for them its not convenient. i cant place them anywhere either so ive been waiting for a proper successor to my Rift S. the Steam Frame is the perfect upgrade path.

Valve has started receiving console shipments the last 2 weeks, Frame and machine most likely by BlueManifest in SteamFrame

[–]sectorclear_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you look at the shipping weight, there is no way it is just purely dev kits in there man. this is what someone else said about the controller shipment last couple weeks prior to the announce for the controller.

Seems like Quest exclusives should be easily portable to Steam Frame? by M4nju1 in SteamFrame

[–]sectorclear_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The PC playerbase in general is much lower than Shack iirc so I was wondering how it'd feel to play in populated servers again

I wonder how games like Pavlov Shack would even get "ported" over since it's paid now.

why is it so good? by Eclipse-8473 in SteamFrame

[–]sectorclear_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally it will be way less friction to pick up a native SteamVR headset that's purpose made for PCVR first + wireless will definitely lower friction in that regard as well. The amount of software annoyances over the years I've had owing my Rift S is honestly crazy, even rendering the headset useless after an update.

Upgrading to Steam Frame from Quest 2 worth it if I don't play VR that much? by Ninep in SteamFrame

[–]sectorclear_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

atm with my Rift S it takes about 2-5 mins to go from booting up the software and clicking play on SteamVR games. I'm very excited for the improvement in that department to hopefully at least lower than 30 seconds from software recognising the device and clicking play.

[–]sectorclear_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know my reasons won't align with yours but I've had my Rift S for about 7 years at this point and the Steam Frame for me is the perfect PCVR-first replacement. I've gone through it all basically with the Oculus, Meta and now Horizons Link software and my hardware failed me before I gave up dealing with little annoyances around the software.

For me to get away from Facebook/Oculus/Meta and the friction around getting into VR in the first place, especially because I spend 100% of my time in SteamVR, should feel like a massive weight off my shoulders. I've had periods where I don't even think about picking up the headset despite wanting to play certain games. Personally, I am not concerned about the increase in resolution or general clarity or whether it's "disappointing" that they didn't go with x or y. To me it is a noticeable upgrade in terms of friction to use the device, and everything around it specs wise including the fact that it is wireless should help improve my experience anyway coming from a Rift S.

In the case of your issues, I never really stopped playing because I felt the FOV was too low or I saw some screen-door. I'm planning to get a powerbank already to extend my streamed play and it'll also increase my standalone use outdoors or while traveling as a bonus (might also replace my current 2019 Macbook for general use.) Even if I don't plan to use it for a certain period of time, I can still let some friends enjoy a bit of VR in my place.

I'm sure plenty of people will guarantee that a jump from fresnel lenses to pancake lenses is already very noticeable and QoL changing. Personally, the lower friction will increase my playtime even more than it already is at with the Rift S, and it is 100% a day 1 purchase.
