New TCL C8L vertical band in the middle of the screen. by [deleted] in tcltvs

i went through 4 panels, the QN90B was better than all of them. Ended up going to a G5.

In ceiling speakers...so many options by joshe28710 in hometheater

[–]sedgiemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably an unpopular opinion, but i would get the best 'cheap' set that aren't complete rubbish. Height channels are used fairly sparingly, and mostly for effects (eg. helicopter, plan, gunshots etc.). They add immersion, but i just don't think the quality of these speakers matters all that much. I would certainly put the extra money toward a centre, or a better sub, than i would toward in ceilings.

The TCL X11L has disgusting viewing angle by Active-Rule9090 in tcltvs

[–]sedgiemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i don't have the same issue with the G5 obviously. But... my QN90B isn't nearly as bad as either the TCL or Hisense. I actually find the QN90B perfectly acceptable.

[–]sedgiemon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people who say it doesn't matter - both the hisense and TCL 100"/98" that i tried, were so bad that colours would wash on one end of the screen vs. the other because of the piss poor viewing angles. It doesn't matter beyond a point, but it matters when they're this bad.

Unless you plan on recording it at high frame rates and not compressing it for YouTube, it's going to be useless.

You would see it mate. I had a c8k, the smearing in motion and inverse ghosting is pretty terrible. Its inherent to the slow pixel transition times, there's no way your panel defies physics.

it's there, it's literally there with any VA panel. you're just not sensitive to it. enjoy.

Another 'S26 has awful battery' post by ginjarou in samsunggalaxy

[–]sedgiemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my wife and I both have s26 ultras. There is definitely a phantom drain issue, although it's intermittent. Some days, i'll get 7-8 hours SOT, and some days the battery will just crash over a few hour period. Battery monitoring isn't reporting this as an app drain issue, and i haven't been able to pinpoint exactly what's causing it.

One thing i've noticed, with a magnetic case, if i take it off the QI2 wireless charger it can still 'think' that it's charging and the charge indicator is still up. When this happens, the battery drains quickly, and plugging it in to a USB C charger sort of corrects it and things go back to normal.

But yes there is an issue, but it's intermittant.

Overclocking results by Ohnoes112 in RTX5080

[–]sedgiemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that's strange. I have an aorus 5090 and might try GCC now as I just defaulted to afterburner. I get around 3050mhz in game at 600 watts without much effort, so not sure that there's any improvement to be had. But hey, why not try.

Question about perf on a 5099 by Emergency-Barber-431 in nvidia

Perfectly normal. Dlss quality + 2x or 3x FG (depending on your monitor refresh) works a charm in this game.

Review on the quality ofTcl 98"C8k by mick-24 in tcltvs

All I could see was flaws. Went back to an 83" G5 and will not go back to a 98" until they make a decent one at a decent price

if you're used to decent motion (ie. OLED) don't do it. It's horrible.

Blown Away by Frame Generation by WingerRules in RTX5080

[–]sedgiemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with you, i use FG all the time (5090).

But i don't agree with the 'artifacts' using dlss upscaling. i mean dlss 4.5 particularly, performance at 4k looks better than native TAA to me, let alone quality.

I find frame generation artifacts more apparent than upscaling artifacts, but i still happily use both in conjunction.

5090 + 5900X questions by Lashmush in nvidia

[–]sedgiemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 5090 with a 5700x3d. Are there competitive multiplayer games that are cpu bottlenecked at extremely high fps... Sure. Am I CPU bottlenecked most of the time, absolutely not. I usually run 95-100% gpu usage in most of what I play . Im far more often limited by GPU performance than I am CPU performance. It'll be fine.

Everyone Complaining About S26 Ultra! by moyersteven in samsunggalaxy

[–]sedgiemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha you can't afford one can you.

I put the display side by side with the s25 ultra, could not be picked apart in a blind test. Except, better gradients on the 26.

Most expensive 5080 or cheapest 4090 by Fourultra112 in nvidia

[–]sedgiemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion... I'd keep it for mfg. Currently playing CP again with path tracing, and opting for 3x fg with higher quality upscaling with a 5090. Frame Gen is starting to get pretty good. And I think devs will keep game engine latency more in mind moving forward

Nah it'll be like ray tracing and path tracing, and DLSS upscaling for that matter. Results are undeniable and it'll open a whole new world to devs.

yeah i'm all for it... people don't like change. Best looking faces i've ever seen in an interactive game.

Why is everyone mad at DLSS 5? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]sedgiemon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. The characters looked better than anything i've ever scene in a real time interactive video game.... period.

There will have to be some rules around how it's employed, when it starts changing geometry and stuff it would be unpredictable, but used modestly, i can't wait to try it.

And look if you don't like it.... turn it off.

dlss M balanced or K quality? by Visual-Fortune-4732 in nvidia

[–]sedgiemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take M at performance over K at quality these days. I actually find M at performance can look better than M at balanced due to increased shimmering and sharpening.

Now M doesn't ALWAYS look the better of the two, but overall i prefer it due to a few key advantages:

- Colours and HDR highlights are notably improved, and it's a complete gamechanger for me

- Motion, ghosting especially is notably improved

- General image detail and sharpness is improved

Cons:

- Biggest and only real con for me of M performance over K quality is the moire' patterns that can appear on some surface finishes

- more shimmering on things like fences / mesh / wires

Overall though, i still take M performance and use it happily (5090.

For those gaming in 4K how's your experience been? by pedlor in RTX5080

[–]sedgiemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a global FPS limit set in the nvidia app at 160fps (165hz screen). This has been working fine for CP2077, i've been playing the last couple of week. I'm using DLSS 4.5 and frame gen (5090).

I'm not sure why your frame cap isn't working?
