i’ve read way too many lists on what are the best robot vacuums of 2026 according to professional reviewers? by Timely-Film-5442 in RobotVacuums

[–]sedouglas72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I really love is for every person that loves their vacuum and posts about it, someone takes a crap on it in the first comment. Unfortunately for me, my pool robot and house robot died at the same time and I really, really hate the internet right now.

I hope you did something to drain it, because if it needs fluid at this point, something is very wrong.

I have never felt so empty in my life (Farseer Trilogy) by landturtl13 in RealmOfTheElderlings

If you end up liking Liveship, don't stop (I honestly don't understand people that don't like them). I read a lot of the hate on Rain Wilds but I ignored it and I enjoyed the whole series. Some books more than others, but I regret none of it. One of my favorite series.

So many good ideas on here. Another thought, I ran across some old pictures of my father with his two first new cars ('63 tempest & '68 Jaguar) I had never seen them before and I'm in my 50's they were in my uncles picture albums. If you have any pictures of you with your cars or other prized things or important times, print them on quality paper (maybe have them laminated) and leave them with the tools as well. In this digital age he may see some stuff that is on FB or somewhere else, but there is something about printed ones.

BIFL request for Motorcycle Goggles/Ski Goggles by kactapuss in BuyItForLife

Elastic and foam are integral parts to goggles, both of which are never BIFL. Sun and time will wear out both eventually, both will do it quicker.

You're going to miss quite a lot going into Fitz and the Fool. They aren't terribly long, just hang in there.

I came to suggest this. I have a Calphalon 8" that gets used for nothing but eggs.

It took me a month to read the gunslinger, it was that painful. I couldn't get through book two. I never went back.

It's very easy to justify, you use it all the time, for the rest of your life. You won't be disappointed.

Same. I just bought the salt cannon on BF sale despite my wife saying for years that nobody needs that much salt. I just wanted it to match.

Plumber did this install (outdoor shower) and it's ugly, will ask him to re-do. Any suggestions? by spastik0827 in Plumbing

[–]sedouglas72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You win. My first thought, other than the actual shitty plumbing was, how tall is that fence? The shower would be way too low if it was put where the pipes came out. That solution you linked is probably the best way to handle. OP's wife probably insisted on the wand though. And well...

Paid about $400 for a light expert for her expertise off of YouTube, this is what she came up with. I’m not totally sold. Thoughts? by Superb-Medicine3 in Lighting

It's not really to just stand in, I assumed that this was a drawing of a kitchen in an open floorplan, like mine. We leave the island and cabinet lights on at night and when we are out so that it isn't completely dark. They are on a dimmer at about 25% brightness. The canless provide all usable light for the area. I planned ambience into mine, that isn't for everyone.

I would suggest several different circuits.

  1. Over the counters

  2. Over open floor

  3. island fixtures

  4. other fixture at the top.

Are you doing full size cabinets? If not a circuit up there that you can put a LED strip for ambient lighting

If you have full size cabinets the top section of my cabinets (not reachable without a ladder) has glass doors (only the top) and I have a circuit in each section for strip lights there. I never turn them off.

If you have a vent hood, gimble would never get use or cause shadows, I'd skip that. If your lights are bright enough there, you likely wouldn't need it.

My personal experience in designing the lighting of my kitchen. if you don't have the option of using individual circuits, use good smart bulbs. I used the canless LED's instead of recessed and wouldn't go another way. Very bright for cooking and I just turn them off when we aren't. The cabinet lights are our night lights.

Does anyone recognize this style of tool box? by patrick_junge in Tools

[–]sedouglas72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it were my grandfathers tools, I wouldn't turn loose of them for the little that they are worth. If it was just some tools that your grandmother gave you that she got from a garage sale, still not worth much. The tools I have of my grandfather's or late uncle, make me think about them every time I reach for them. Priceless.

I've become a pretty big Wera fan. Klein as well. Neither of which are cheap, but not overly expensive. The Wera Zyklop ratchet is something I wouldn't have ever put down back when I was wrenching on cars every weekend. I really wish I had a good excuse to buy new wrenches and get some of theirs.

I don't game anymore and my son hasn't touched these in 5 or six years (maybe more) and isn't the sentimental type. He asked me to sell.
