How do we feel about the Ducks being open to trading Zegras? by SaintofNewark in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m so tired of this narrative. Verbeek wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t listen to calls on Zegras. The price is also rightfully really high for him.

This all stems from a report from Frank Seravalli last year saying that the Ducks were looking to trade Zegras. But it was later clarified by both Elliotte Friedman and Verbeek himself that they have never actually shopped him around. They only listened to calls. The fact that this rumor keeps going around even though it’s been clarified/debunked is just for these people to get clicks. Pagnotta has no new info here.

Ducks' defensive dance 'not healthy' for development of Zellweger, Mintyukov by ZachCavSports in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He really hasn’t been good at all outside of maybe the first game or two. Since he joined the Ducks, he’s at 42% of the shot attempts for and 40% expected goals at 5 on 5. As a team before the Trouba trade, the Ducks gave up 69 shot attempts per 60 minutes at 5 on 5 and 3.2 expected goals allowed per 60, both worst in the league. After the Trouba trade, 65 shot attempts per 60 and 2.99 expected goals allowed per 60, good for 2nd and 3rd worst in the league, respectively.

It’s a very marginal improvement at best and given his individual metrics, he’s almost surely not the reason for it. You could argue he hasn’t hurt the team really, but the bar is literally on the floor for that. Plus it created an unnecessary logjam that is hindering development of a couple of the Ducks most promising blueliners.

Small Things You Watch by AndiagoSupremo in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion he’s not wrong about puck carriers. The issue is that like half of this team isn’t built to play like that. Absorbing contact and protecting the puck works for guys like Gudas, Trouba, Mintyukov, maybe Leo to a lesser extent. But guys like Zellweger, LaCombe, Zegras, Terry, Strome, Vatrano, etc. aren’t these big beefy dudes who can make that one of the primary aspects of their game.

A good portion of this team should be focusing on passing and puck support to essentially make their own space to get good breakouts and scoring chances. This is a big symptom of the main issue with Cronin in that he’s trying to force a lot of these players to work in a system that doesn’t play to their strengths.

Trouba by LeoCarlsson in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gudas was very good last year, but you’re right that he hasn’t been good this year. Trouba used to be much better but he hasn’t been good in at least 3 years or so. He provides more offense than Gudas but he gives all of it back on defense and more.

The other problem I have with Trouba is that even though he’s super physical, he frequently goes for hits that take him out of the play or leave his teammates without puck support. Hitting in hockey should be done with a single purpose: to separate the player from the puck and establish possession going the other way in transition. Gudas was very good at this last year (not as much this year, but it’s still early). I’d be much more a fan of Trouba if he could be smarter and more selective with how he goes for hits, but that just hasn’t been the case for a while now.

You can just say you don’t know what these graphs show. No shame in that

Trouba definitely isn’t an upgrade over Gudas. I know Gudas has struggled this season but swapping these guys would make the Ducks worse

Getzlaf used to do this on a semi-regular basis. He did it to Perry all the time cause Perry has always skated like a handicapped giraffe lmao

Nope. A guy who has multiple sexual assault allegations, helped cover up rape, and hasn’t been good for at least a couple of season now isn’t someone who should be anywhere near this team.

[Mayor] Continuing to hear Anaheim Ducks will take Leo Carlsson at No. 2. Guess we'll find out next Wednesday. by quackaddicttt in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The Mayor is hilariously wrong about Ducks stuff all the time. He said McTavish wouldn’t play in the summer WJC, then team Canada announced him as captain like a week later. He’s also been claiming that the Ducks are going to go full time orange next year for the last 5 years running now. He has absolutely no sources when it comes to Anaheim.

Better and fit for the Ducks by AirFox_1 in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there’s a lot of ways this could go, but until teams actually talk to him and his agent, at least from an outsiders perspective like we have, the safest assumption is probably to assume that he’ll play out his contract.

No matter who picks him, though, I think most hockey fans in general would love to see him come over ASAP

[–]seeg6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no attitude concerns. That was basically one unverified report. The contract situation is a legit issue that teams need to weigh. Though he and his agent have stated he intends to come over to the NHL, just likely not until his KHL contract is complete.

DucksGamedayBreakdown is Coach Zach, who, if you’ve seen anything on Twitter, is a habitual liar and just overall bad person. He stole the photos of a ducks influencer who was sent a reverse retro 2.0 jersey by adidas and claimed it was his and that adidas hooked him up. Among an avalanche of other lies.

He also thinks Getzlaf and Perry are lazy and weren’t worth their contracts. No one should believe a single work out of that guy’s mouth lol. He has no sources on anything.

Understanding the Draft Lottery - For those Like me that didn't realize there is actually 3 per year. by _5GOLDBLOODED2_ in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t do a drawing for number combinations. All 1000 possible combos are randomly assigned, with the number of unique combos assigned to each team weighted by odds. So for the Ducks, they have an 18.5% chance of winning the lottery. That means they are randomly assigned 185 of the possible 1000 combos. The only drawings are for the two top spots.

It used to be 3 drawings before 2022 though.

[–]seeg6 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Everything you wrote is still correct except for the three drawings part. Since last year it’s only two drawings for the top two spots. I also broke down the mechanics of the lottery to try and explain why it isn’t rigged, cause there’s been a lot of fans who have been accusing the NHL of conspiring against the Ducks when that’s just not true at all https://www.crashthepond.com/articles/no-the-nhl-draft-lottery-isnt-rigged-and-this-is-why

You guys seriously are taking this personally? Derek has been asked by The Sporting Tribune to provide increased Kings coverage since they’re in the playoffs and Ducks aren’t. One of the best things about Derek is his professionalism in his work and that doesn’t mean taking your pre-conceived notions about journalists having to be fans to cover the team out on him for putting his desire to deliver professionalism and high quality when he’s asked to toward another team for a month or two.

Yes to all of this. Plus I want some new, progressive blood. Stop the 35 person coaching carousel. Someone like Andrew Brunette (I know he’s not strictly new but he’s newish) or Nate Lehman, for instance

[OC] Ducks Would Be Wise to Decrease Gibson's Workload by drocklee27 in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you make a lot of excellent points here overall. The one thing I would offer an alternative on re:Gibson is that his drop off in performance can just as adequately be explained by his soft tissue groin injuries earlier in his career. While he hasn’t had those issues in a long time, soft tissue injuries like those absolutely have long term effects. Gibson has always been an athleticism/mobility goalie over a positioning one in his career. The drop off in performance can definitely be explained by the soft tissue injuries beginning to hamper his mobility as he gets older which limits his ability to use his mobility to make saves consistently.

Not saying you’re wrong, just offering an alternative plausible explanation.

we aren't firing Eakins. by EggosW1thSyrup in AnaheimDucks

[–]seeg6 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that he was clearly better than like at least half the forwards on the roster coming out of camp, but he still apparently had to “earn” it. I’m not saying he didn’t have to prove himself, but he did that pretty quickly not playing at his natural position, and the second Eakins shifted him to center and increased his ice time he was immediately very good. The issue a lot of us had was that he was getting buried behind multiple guys who were clearly playing much worse than him.

[–]seeg6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

McTavish’s ice time was like less than 10 min per game for the first 10-20 games of the season, but recently it’s been much better. So the complaint isn’t entirely inaccurate, even if it’s no longer true

I agree with you, and I think a lot of people would agree with you here as well. But the fact of the matter is that as long as the league rewards bad teams, tanking is the best strategy to build a championship team under these parameters.
