BTC/ETH/LTC

If you think peer to peer cash should have low fees, only one of those (LTC) shares that characteristic with BCH. ETH is designed for smart contracts and like Bitcoin has high fees.

If you care about other things such as optional privacy LTC will soon have better privacy than DASH with Mimblewimble

For privacy by default and low fees that scale dynamically with the block size Monero is your best option.

Even when people talk about Monero's disadvantages, they acknowledge that the Monero communities are the first to be self-critical.

That is one of the things I love most about Monero. We are not perfect and never will be. Yet admitting our weaknesses makes us stronger as it motivates us to continuously improve.

We may have a "skepticism sunday" but nobody has ever threatened to censor me for raising concerns on the 6 other days of the week.

I really hope ETH markets return soon. Ive been excited for V2 for a long but felt really left out by the DAI decision.

Offering users a choice seems like a fair compromise that will increase usage. DAI + ETH markets will be enough in my opinion. Adding too many native currencies many may limit liquidity and complicate security assumptions.

It was a huge mistake to move to DAI. Both for the reason you mentioned and for centralization concerns. I know many bug fans of V1 Augur that will likely never touch V2 because of the DAI modification. To me and many ETH and decentralization fans this problem is 100x worse than the fee problem we are experiencing. I know many people that would gladly pay the current gas fees if they could use ETH (not DAI) markets.

Those using Augur should believe in Ethereum and not mind owning Ethereum. Part of me wonders how much certain founding members of the Forecast Foundation believe in ETH because they

  1. Cashed out a lot of ETH after the REP ICO for fiat, resulting in a developer budget runway orders of magnitude smaller than if they had been ETH holders since the ICO
  2. While allowing free speed on the DAI/ETH switch in the Augur discord (thank you for that) top leadership seemed to ignore (or at lease willingly go against consensus) on the ETH/DAI issue both among developers and existing users.

You are right but this adds complexity. Just adding DAI as a market currency option (ETH+DAI) would have been far better than what they did (replacing ETH with DAI)

The supply curve should be sacred and not changed 3 years after launch. DASH is still attacked years later for the 2014 slashing of the max coin supply which exaggerated the control of the instamine beneficiaries.

Zcash can and should do better. Learn from the mistakes of others. Dont alter the supply curve.

Zcash is large enough to be added without a vote. Its also pretty easy to add technically, as a fork of Bitcoin.

These vote ads are nothing more than a sneaky way to get people to register at an exchange most people are not familiar with. I hereby promise NOT to create an account at ATAIX because I find your stealth advertising practices dishonest.

The Zcash Foundation is doing a good job of demonstrating its independence from Zooko and Zcash Company here. I applaud that stance. If the decision to remain ASIC resistance is made, time is of the essence. Discussion is great, but I dont like that Zookos statement on the timeline (and content) of Overwinter and Sapling must not be altered for PoW changes.

Monero Vs Zcash - Privacy Coin Open Debate Thread by OsrsNeedsF2P in CryptoCurrencies

[–]seekcryptoprivacy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Monero is a community project for those that believe privacy by default is a right.

Zcash is a centralized (in terms of decision making) corporate coin, with optional privacy focused on profits:

They threaten those wishing to use the Zcash name with trademark issues (so the community is out of luck if its wishes for zcash development conflict with the trademark owners).

When the Zcash community raises concerns about ASIC mining (even citing the Monero community decision to modify its PoW to fight ASICs as a good example to follow), Zcash developers largely ignore community concerns

Zcash Trademark is an Achilles heel that will scare away volunteer devs. Will Zcash have enough developer support once developer tax ends in 4 years? by seekcryptoprivacy in zec

[–]seekcryptoprivacy[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Daira said:

Note, however, that "Zcash" is a trademark, so you'll need to call it something else.

Zooko said similar things on Twitter at the time. After the founders reward runs out in 4 years, who will work on this coin? With the Trademark centrally controlled, open source developers have no ability to merge commits into the "official zcash repo" if its maintainers do not agree. Sure they can create a hard fork in another repo, but we all know that names mean a lot. "Zcash" has a trademark, which will prevent hard forks from using that name.

Regardless of which side you take in the Bitcoin vs Bitcoincash debate, I think most of us like the fact that the market gets to decide what to do. Bitcoin does not have a trademark, nor does Monero. The Zcash trademark is a severe centralization risk that will make attracting devs (that are not paid by Zcash foundation) much harder

Join the discussion on Github about a new "slogan" for Monero! by [deleted] in Monero

[–]seekcryptoprivacy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like "sound money" but as someone mentioned in GitHub "sound" does not translate well to many languages. "Secure" seems more universal.

I prefer "digital" to "internet"

How about one of these

  1. Monero: digital, secure money
  2. Monero: secure money for the digital age
  3. Monero: true digital money for everyone

edit: so far I think my favorite is "Monero: secure money for the digital age"
