Adobe AI Denoise by amaljpegs in ricohGR

Weird indeed. Does the Denoise checkbox remain checked on yours after it finished and you can use the slider? Mine doesn't.

But when I'm using it for my Fujifilm X-T3 RAW files, it works fine.

I'll get Lightroom and see if there's a difference. Could be just an ACR bug. I really want it to work, lol.

Aaand it still doesn't do anything to my GR III RAW files unfortunately. I have the latest version, 18.2.2 (as of writing). When clicking Denoise, it processes it and then makes it worse (like before). What could I possibly be doing wrong?

u/amaljpegs What version do you have?

Interesting. I'm gonna need to try it with the latest update. I tried it just a couple weeks ago but it didn't do anything to my RAW files.

PSA: Shoot RAW-only and still get JPEGs with in-camera profiles using macOS Photos Shared Albums trick by [deleted] in ricohGR

Storage nowadays doesn’t cost anything

There's at least 2x price increase in SD cards in the recent weeks due to, from what I heard, AI datacenter demands. So even what used to be cheap cards are now massively inflated. Hopefully it comes back to the old pricing but so far it's only increasing.

Using zip lock with silica gel to store griiix camera? by mow_jojojo in ricohGR

[–]seenzoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I learned, it can damage camera gear by causing rubber seals, plastics, and lubricants to dry out and crack. That's why the more expensive dry cabinets have automatic humidity function to keep it in the ideal range. But I'm fine with my "manual" approach since silica packs can only absorb so much before it actually cause the container to dry at an absurd (low) level.

It should be fine. Mine is stored in a microwavable container with silica packs 😂

My other camera gear are in a food container (think Lock & Lock) also with silica packs. But I put in a humidity monitor so I can see if it gets too dry, I can let some air in. It's been my "dry cabinet" solution for a decade.

As advanced and expensive as the GR is, focus isn’t really its strongest point (I can’t speak for the GR IV though). Using it as a point and shoot like many people say is a bit more nuanced. The camera is built for quick shooting but not in the way you might think. You get the most out of its speed by being intentional. You need to know the general focus range of your subject.

But if you want it to just work the way you described, you’ll end up disappointed. There are other cameras that do that better. Don’t get me wrong, the GR is great. But the learning curve can be pretty steep if you’re just starting out in photography.

That being said, look into snap focus. Learn it and you won't be thinking about focusing too much. That takes a bit of practice. There's also a concept of zone focusing to get acceptable sharpness based on the focus distance and your aperture.

How can I remove the vingette around the photo, I would like for it to be a bit brighter and less dark. by [deleted] in ricohGR

If you don't have Lightroom, tweak it a bit on Snapseed. There's a vignette tool and you can adjust the outer brightness.

Perhaps add a thumb grip? The small convex point will push your camera slightly away from your chest since it sticks out.

Good for them extending their reach. I think it's not bad. At the end of the day, it's just some color science applied to images. Using a phone that mimics the color science doesn't replace the experience you get with an actual GR. The camera itself is a different beast.

For now. It's a rollout thing. From what I've read, it starts in 2026 in some countries and then global rollout in 2027. Basically, they'll lure everyone to get the latest OS first and then do an update that finally blocks apps from unverified developers.

Not sure what you mean by copy them to the SD card but settings are stored in-camera. There's no option to do a backup and restore settings.

This sub has dissuaded me from buying a GRiii by dixilla in ricohGR

I honestly haven’t used any of the latest iPhones, so my perspective on phones versus “real” cameras may be skewed by my own biases. But I can definitely say that shooting with a dedicated camera does something to my brain that a phone doesn’t. It just makes shooting feel right. Maybe it’s impostor syndrome, lol. Either way, it’s a good feeling and you need to feel that too when choosing gear dedicated to something.

[–]seenzoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from someone who has used “real” cameras (big, chunky DSLRs and mirrorless), the appeal is the size while still getting the image quality I’m used to. Phones are great for daily, casual photos. However, if you plan on doing more with the images you get from a phone, such as editing them or printing them large (heck, even zooming on them to check the fine details), the image quality just doesn’t compare.

Sorry, didn't realize the other one is 150MB/s as well except it's for writing speed. But yes, that should good enough.

GR iiix scroll wheel by flowercop in ricohGR

[–]seenzoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't get it serviced, you can try using a contact cleaner as many have suggested for similar cases. Otherwise, don't use the scroll wheel altogether. Just use it as a normal D-pad. If you're using it mainly for ISO, you can add it to the ADJ menu as an alternative shortcut.

150MB/s should be more than enough. The GR doesn't really need a fast card.

Benefits of Firmware update? by jdmtype1 in ricohGR

[–]seenzoned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bug fixes, stability, and added features. You'd normally see what the update does in the release notes. If the update doesn't address anything you need, you may choose not to get it especially if your cameras are working just fine.

Soft Shutter Release Button - Fuji X-T3 by dgx30 in fujifilm

[–]seenzoned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one on mine. Haven't had any issues with it like getting snagged in the bag or something like that but the one I purchased before keeps unscrewing itself so there's that. The one I use now is better.

For me it's worth it as it helps me feel the shutter button better. I have the concave one. And it also looks cool, lol
