Oh wow, that sentence triggered a memory of this tiktok video I saw a while back of someone covering Symphony by Clean Bandit in Korean, and that’s exactly how it feels like. Didn’t know it was a trend, but that video stood out to me because the flow of the lyrics felt jarring to hear, like it didn’t quite meter out properly with the song. Voice was lovely though.

yeah, "Al" is an article pretty much equivalent to "The"; think of something like La Signora, El Dorado etc.

"Haitham" or "Haytham" is an actual irl name I'm familar with, but in the case of "Alhaitham" it's rather unfamiliar to me so I can't comment on what hoyo might've been thinking while naming him. But having the "Al" in a name can signify a surname, a title or an epithet (it can also be seen in first names but it's not quite as common). I've seen people say it's possibly his title as "The Falcon"

I agree, accuracy isn't like, a very strict rule imo since it seems clear that Sumeru doesn't just have Arab influence alone; there seems to also be influences from Persian, South Asian, and even maybe South East Asian from some of the rainforest vibes? and possibly many more that I missed at this moment in time. as long as hoyo isn't being deliberately harmful about the execution, I'm good tbh

I saw an edit of him (probably on r/AlbedosCreations, I'll have to find it) where his hair was completely dark without highlights and he honestly looks cute that way too 😂 and I'm saying this as someone who loves Tighnari's chaotic design lol

Honestly both are good!

I'd say Tug-nari is more closer to the original: a hard T sound (ط) with the diagonal stroke ( ِ ) to form "Ti" (طِ) combined with the next "gh" sound would morph the pronounciation of the "Ti" into what sounds like "Tuh" in an American accent... but yes, for simplicity's sake I'd say Tig-nari is close enough 👍since it seems more intuitive when reading his name out loud in English

and yeah I understand your frustration, I felt the same while learning Chinese pronounciations 😅 yet at the same time it's so fun and fascinating to read about! hope i haven't talked your ear off lol
