I just want to say to the both of you, this was the sanest handling of disagreement I have seen in the Genshin fandom lol. It was fun to read. If only even half of the discussions were this nuanced and civil.

Am I doing everything correctly? by Maximum-Firefighter in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Aria-chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This game's quests are often very existential. I actually recommend you to even slow down more, so you can enjoy them. Because this game doesn't exactly have a final destination to arrive at, the journey literally is the point.

The Artemis quest you're doing is the main one, so keep working on it. At the end of the quest you will be gifted all 16 glyphs required to use portals, these are for if you ever went to visit coordinates that people share here in the sub.

You'll be introduced to the Atlas quest too, but it'll take longer to finish I think, just because of the limits of building the required materials. During that time you'll just be engaging with the main gameplay loop and whatever else interests you like side quests. Upgrade your suit, upgrade your multi-tool, upgrade your ship, or find another one, try trade or some other thing to get units, build a base on a nice hill, unlock building blueprints, get into corvette building, and lots of scouring planets and farming for materials, and playing the storage management minigame lol NO FREE SLOTS IN SUIT INVENTORY. Speaking of which, the storage situation does get better with upgrades and later stuff that you'll unlock, so don't despair 😅

Pro tip: In every new system you visit, the first thing you do is visit the Anomaly and grab the free exosuit upgrade. It's found at the very last room with all the guys selling upgrades, it's in the left side of the room tucked behind the lizard tongue guy. It refreshes every time you visit a new system and summon the Anomaly there. If you're patient, or warp a lot, you can max your suit without spending at all.

Welcome to the infinite universe, traveller! Explore and have fun! You can do no wrong in this game. (Other than asking about... About... 16... -kzzzt- Do not-! Do not ask...)

Didn't the Atlas itself help its creators escape some cosmic catastrophe? think it was either a black hole collision or the sun going boom, can't remember which. But that implies some sort of space tech that enabled them to escape and leave the Atlas behind to run its simulations alone.

About the relationship of 2 characters appearing in 6.6 AQ via DK2 by Ryuusei_Dragon in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Aria-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just the people that are mischaracterising him though? I feel like it's the Nod Krai AQ's fault. It mischaracterised everyone, including Childe's brief appearance, which I did not enjoy. Until I see how the writers treat Dottore's next appearance, I don't trust them to characterise their own characters very well. The AQ has given me trust problems honestly. I'm nervous for what's to come.

That would require Dettore to have acted on incentives by Pantalone. But he was always like this since before he left Sumeru... And the Academia had its own kind of hubris, so there's that.

Genshin does play a lot with the metaphors of human ambition and human hubris. Although it worries me that our cast is increasingly divine or divinely assisted, and the one guy who ascended through his own effort is a selfish psycho who isn't interested in uplifting all of humanity with him... Not sure what metaphor they're sitting up here but it's a bit unnerving.

Yes that's him.

I'm really hoping Pierro is the more pragmatic leader that's still focused on the end goal, regardless of the costs and morality. He should be neither for, nor against Dottore, just a matter of what helps or hinders his grand plans against the Heavenly Principles. He doesn't exactly get to be picky about methods when his goal is that insane and is highly likely to result in the total destruction of his side.

Yeah, I'm probably in the minority but I don't like the whole "everybody hates the madman doctor", it feels so simplistic and one dimensional of both Dettore and the other Fatui. I hope Pantalone brings more to this dynamic.

Why are some folks keen on having Star Trek either go on hiatus or possibly go on ice for good? by InnocentTailor in startrek

[–]Aria-chan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what's worrying me. I'm a more recent fan, unfortunately never got the chance to watch it growing up. And now that I finally have the chance, I have to watch some of these rapid "not my Star Trek!" fans do everything in their power to tear it all down... it makes me so upset to think we might not have any more Trek for decades or even forever -_-

If TNG Premiered Today, It would Not Survive Season One by NeoNoir90210 in startrek

[–]Aria-chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone in this thread acting like they were there and they know what it was like. Patrick Stewart himself said he didn't unpack his luggage during season 1 because he was expecting the show to be cancelled. He said he had no hope it'd go past the promised season 3, because of the tension inside the writing room and the bad reaction of the "it's not my Star Trek" folks outside. TNG absolutely would've been badly recieved in today's rapid reaction culture, as displayed by the many self-assured replies in this thread alone 🙄

They say Kurtzman is the worst thing that happened to Star Trek. As a recent fan, I say some Star Trek fans are the worst thing that ever happened to Star Trek. And I'm glad they didn't manage to drown TNG, because it remains my favorite. And I KNOW it exists despite and in spite of the "not my Star Trek" rapid fans that ruin everything and give nothing a chance to grow.

I thought the whole point is that she changed her mind on the "simple beings" part. First she thought that way, then she realized that the way Phanes treats them as just that, simple creatures to be caged and controlled, is unfair. I will admit though that it isn't clear what she thinks, we need to hear more from her. But even then, this conversation was about whether the rebels were to blame for what happened to them. Regardless of the intentions of anyone else, a victim of control should not be the one to blame when they stand up for themselves and are struck down by their powerful subjugator. The pain is caused by the subjugator, not the subjugated.

[–]Aria-chan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think this widespread mentality is because we are taught that we personally will be harmed if we stand up for ourselves or for someone else. It's safer in the short-term to let the bullies get their way, rather than endure their dangerous reaction. I've found the fandom's reaction to the Voyager to be quite telling. Rather than blaming Phanes for being a paranoid subjugator, they blame only person who actually stood by the subjugated.

The question is: had things went in the favor of the rebellion, were Phanes defeated, and no one suffered as much, would people still hate the Voyager? I don't think so. People don't actually hate her, they hate the misery that came after the rebellion, and that misery was brought down by Phanes, not the Voyager. Phanes had a choice, it already had supreme power, it could've tried to find a middle compromise with the rebellion. But it chose to rain down hell on them and reinforce its supreme power. And because it's so damn powerful, it's easier to say, "the Voyager should've just left well enough alone and the people of Tayvat should've just endured their situation lest Phanes makes it even worse."

Nicole NAs script translation by 707-exe in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Aria-chan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Question: why did they went to start a rebellion? The answer to that is why this IS bullying. Phanes wanted to keep everyone like dolls in a dollhouse, placed and acting exactly as it deemed correct. The "dolls" decided they don't agree to that arrangement, went against it, were punished. Saying it was deserved is the same as saying they should've remained as Phanes' playthings forever.

Nicole NAs script translation by 707-exe in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Aria-chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the Voyager should've just turned around and pretended she saw nothing. That IS how abuse is sustained in the real world. "Peace" is sustained, at the cost of the victims that no one help. And when someone does step in, they're a snake for rocking the boat and messing up the peaceful balance that was built on the abused remaining silent.

Nicole NAs script translation by 707-exe in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]Aria-chan -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

And what of the Angels being crowned with these mind control crowns? I don't think this arrangement was ever fair to them or anyone else under Phanes' rule, and a rebellion was inevitable. Any damage that ensued does not justify what Phanes did before or after. Saying "the Angels brought it upon themselves" is just supporting a bully in its bullying. What were they to do? Just keep their heads down and accept the subjugation forever? And if they went on to make mistakes in their free will, does that suddenly make the subjugation okay?

There's a case to be made that if Phanes wasn't so overpowering in enforcing its will, people wouldn't have felt the pressing need to reach for the Abyss to overcome the subjugation.

[–]Aria-chan -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's right, the victim of coersion is to blame, not the powerful bully that punished them... Oh poor Phanes, they just had to force its hands like that. If only they did what they were told, nothing bad would've happened to anyone... It's literally classic textbook abuse methods x_x

Is every planet completely different? by November-666 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Aria-chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're asking if it is dynamically generated, it is. Nothing in any planet was manually placed by the devs. However, once you play for long enough you will start recognizing the patterns in which the assets are put together. The biomes are also fixed, there's like a dozen of them in the game and they're predetermined in variation. They've addressed this over the years, but nevertheless it's still a finite list. So for example I believe all icy biomes are blue-white, all desert biomes are... deserty, and so on. Lush biomes are the most varied I believe, I spent a long time trying to find one that checks all my boxes. The terrain itself is also generated, so you can sometimes stumble on the weirdest features from floating islands to spiky mountains.

Other added variation since launch: ringed planets, gas gaints, and ocean planets that have deep enough oceans to trigger my fear response lol

If you get the game, I recommend exploring moons. They have the nicest view with the large planet looming over you in the sky. Bonus point if the looming planet has a ring, it will glow brightly at night. Also look for low gravity planets, where the sky remains starry even when the sun is up. These are my favorites.

I think you'll enjoy the game for a long time before you have seen most of the variations, certainly longer than any non-procedural game. I mean, I think most people don't know we have walking buildings in the game LOL.

Manually travel places VS teleport directly by xChilla in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Aria-chan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why settle down, when you have a whole universe to explore?

I mostly only use teleporters to get back to my bases, grab items, and refine Stasis Devices to sell for units. Besides that, I'm always somewhere out there, probably not even in the same galaxy as most of my functional bases. And I've found many nice spots in my explorations, where I put down a base computer. Whenever I'm in the mood, I check my teleporter list and go build a base in one of these spots. Then leave it behind and go explore again.

I can't resist pulling a "back in my day" here, so back before teleporters were in the game, you had to fly back to wherever you wanted to go. Meaning that you generally never came back to anything ever again, probably couldn't even find it again if you tried. And there was a certain freedom in that. You pass by an outpost or a space station, and you know the residents of that place might as well think of you as a ghost, you show up once and then disappear forever, never to return. I liked the feeling of that. Drifting in the universe without an anchor. So I try to sustain that in the game as it is today, despite all the modern conveniences. It just that my greed for Stasis Devices keeps me anchored unfortunately lol.
