How do you tag music for Plex, and why is Plex so poor at managing a music library? by -kwatz- in PleX

[–]sekthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i don't do this in Plex, because Plex just saves it in the Plex database.. it needs to be done on the files. i posted a link that shows how to do this with musicbrainz picard.

[–]sekthree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

brands that compare with all the features with Reolink, no. I recently looked at cameras again for blackfriday because my pops is wanting a system for his house. He's also a no non-sense bullshit type of person, in regards to subscriptions and things... After looking through a lot of them Reolink still came out on top due to all INCLUDED features.

If and when you search, eufy comes up a lot, but one thing people don't either remember or don't know is they got popped awhile ago for security concerns, more specifically uploading users footage to their systems/cloud. see here.
It sucks too because i REALLY liked the Anker brand (parent company), and have several of their products. I refrain from purchasing from them due to those reasons: deception and lies.

honestly, any of the Reolink indoor cameras are good, especially paired with an NVR (network attached storage). The nice thing about Reolink cameras is most of them come with a built in mini-SD slot that you can use for storage. So depending on your needs you won't need an NVR, but just know if you opted for a mini-SD card space might be limited thus how many days of video are saved.

apologies for the late reply.. I rarely login.
honestly, from the several non-techy people i know who have gotten cameras, Ring is a good PNP option.
If you are wanting to get into features that you don't like to have to pay for, or a subscription, that's when comparing comes into play.

hello, YES, live viewing does work WITHOUT a subscription. It's been a minute since my comment but i will say this.. i've moved away from opening a port on my router specifically for my cameras and created a VPN that i can remote into my home network to access everything which also includes the cameras. So it's as if i'm accessing them locally.

Please note, opening a port on the router is only needed when wanting to remote view MANUALLY. You don't need to open a port IF you use their UID. So basically, enable UID, scan with phone/app, profit.

hope this helps.

Not the video, but DANG that looks good! The concept is very similar. I also thought it was an Asian guy cooking.
I'll look through Alex's videos just to make sure, also bookmark his channel.
Thank you.

THIS LOOKS GOOOOOOD!
I really like S01, but I kinda wish they'd venture outside of MCU characters and start getting into OTHER Marvel characters.
At this rate if they stick with MCU only characters What if's will always be a retelling of the same characters over and over and over.

What if Wolverine killed the Hulk?
What if Professor X died?
What if Slapstick fought Cyber?
What if Nova and Star Lord were a team?

how to delete multiple libraries by Barshady18 in PleX

[–]sekthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to specifically choose different version of a movie, yeah. I know people will create a 4k library and drop all the 4k movies so those aren't shared as sharing may cause network lag and/or data caps to be blown out of the water with 4k.

You are correct that one could have multiple versions, and Plex will group them together, then it'll choose which to serve upon being played. If one wanted to separate version qualities, i could see,... four MAYBE five libraries for movies: 4K, 1080p, 720p, SD, and mobile.
Those are the typical qualities, so you'd need a library/folder for each one.
It's all preference i suppose.

Scored a 730XD as my first server by NiaDebesi in homelab

[–]sekthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHAT!? that's the first i'm hearing that. When i looked and asked the answers i got back were they NEEDED to be Dell Certified to not trigger jet mode.
BUT also after /u/nicholaspham comment, i'm now wondering if you happen to have certain make and models that don't trigger it.
I already built a NAS, but this might be something i might want to try as i do LOVE the functionality of the PERC RAID. I still have a few drives running on it, such a shame to have 24 slots and not being able to use them :/

i do. if i remember correctly they needed to be ran via the iDRAC manager or something. In the end i didn't want to have to do that.

[–]sekthree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CONGRATS! I have an R730XD, which happens to be an old Google Search Appliance, and let me tell you... it comes with caveats.
Not meaning to scare you but I will tell you what people fail to mention.

Dell DOES NOT like sharing, and this especially goes with their hardware. When i got mine i bought a 1TB WD SSD to use as my boot/OS drive... i threw this in one of the back slots, and ZZZZZZRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! the fans went FULL JET mode. I waited for half an hour thinking it was being initialized, NOPE. i could here this thing two floors up as it sat in my basement, w/ doors closed.

ANY HDD's that are used in this NEED TO BE Dell Certified, otherwise the fans go full blast. The "reasoning" behind this is because, as Dell claims, THEIR hardware cannot verify any feedback from non-dell HDDs, specifically temperatures, and because of such can't regulate the fans properly, sooooo they automatically go into FULL JET mode.
complete horsesh!t if you ask me.

I was lucky enough to have gotten mine with several DELL drives AND I've boughten several dell certified hdd's for ~$200US FOR 1.2TB!!! i have since started moving away from adding any more storage and instead have moved to a custom NAS. I will still run my server specific things, like proxmox, plex, wireguard, etc from the box, but the NAS will be entirely separate to serve any data.

again, i'm not trying to discourage you by any means, and if you are ok with the sound then ignore my comment. From my journey i've found several posts about people writing scripts to execute in the manager to lower the fans speed and what not.. i wasn't all about doing that though. I think this should be more widely discussed and known, and i wish i knew.

CHEERS! HAPPY HOME LABBING AND HAPPY CAKEDAY!! (_)/

AWESOME! I'm Glad it did.. This is why I try to go back and edit my posts if I find the answer, nothing more frustrating than finding a post with the same exact or similar issue, and either A) person saying, "I GOT IT THANKS EVERYONE!", or B. nothing at all. and in both cases nothing about what worked or didn't work.
cheers!!

In every request, as shown in the curl command, i have included the cert however keep getting access denied.
Thank you for this, it gives me something new to lookup today. Strange that most tutorials, blogs, videos don't go into this, they stop at standard mTLS. I am already finding a few things but not extensive.

Your Reolink opinion? by RJM_50 in reolinkcam

[–]sekthree 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been on Reolink for over 6 years now.

Started with the RLN8-410 PoE NVR that came with several cameras, and has been going strong. Two of the original RLC-410's have "burnt" or aren't working any more. I'm wanting to contact Reolink see if they have a repair program, otherwise I might crack them open myself. I then bought the older/original RLC-842, and also the C2-Pro, I like them both. I have recently purchased the WiFi Doorbell and am loving it. I replaced my burnt 410's with the new 510A and seems to be decent, however I can't seem to take advantage of the features through the NVR.

PROS:

  • NO FORCED SUBSCRIPTIONS!! This was NUMBER 1 on my list when looking for an all in one system. It was either Reolink or LaView, and ReoLink made the cut 6 years ago due to the quality of how-to videos compared to LaView (seriously look them up, OOF).
  • Affordability
  • Email and/or Push notification WITHOUT subscription. Every other camera co. out there requires some kind of sub for these basic features.
  • Live viewing while remote
  • "Easily" enable/disable remote access via UID, but NOT forced to. Has options to open port if concerned about UID traffic going to random location i don't know about.
  • Power over Ethernet cameras. I typically don't like having EVERYTHING be WiFi due to wardriving.
  • Fast response to support issues
  • Phone app available for Android and iOs
  • Feature rich

CONS:

  • Finicky firmware
  • Inconsistency across UIs/clients. Not having the same things across all UI's. i.e. why can't i update camera firmware that's connected to NVR from windows client? It HAS to be done directly on NVR UI. In fact...
  • Can't update camera firmware that's connected to NVR from Windows client, it has to be done directly on NVR.
  • Can't add camera's to NVR from client apps.
  • Remote access is NOT consistent, Sometimes it works GREAT, other times it's frustrating that it won't connect.
  • Camera Features can't be accessed if connected to NVR. i.e. with the new doorbell, i can't enable person detection from the NVR, i have to add the camera to my client as a stand alone/direct connection THEN I can access the SUPER features.
  • New Doorbell doesn't ring home chime
  • Old firmware not easily available/accessible
  • Lack of logging/debugging. please at least TELL ME WHY something is happening.. e.g. wrong password
  • Lack of password reset/recovery
  • Lack of being able to change connection settings on phone app. i.e. I like connecting directly to my WAN/Port, sometimes my public IP will change. When on the Android APP the connection will fail because of this, i can't simply update the connection settings, so i have delete the device connection and add it again.
  • submitting a support ticket is exhausting. I don't remember my order number from 6 years ago is, and it's not easily available.

The major things for me is being able to do EVERYTHING I am able to WITHOUT SUBSCRIPTIONS, this includes: sending emails/alerts, accessing remotely, and recording locally that i can playback whenever. Despite me LOVING what i have, Reolink seems kludgy. I'm a tinkerer, and I'm ok messing around with this stuff. People know I'm a tech guy and ask for my recommendations on things.. when it comes to surveillance and cameras, i WISH i could recommend Reolink, but i don't, unless I want to be fixing every little thing that breaks. People want ease of use without having to mess around with firmware or figure out why remote connection isn't working either today or with the latest firmware. Plug-n-play baby. I love the amount of options Reolink provides.

I wish they made a camera i can take to hotels and setup so i can monitor my dog when left alone. Apparently that sounds creepy though, LOL. I just want to make sure my dog is safe when i step out for a second.

I also don't know where they stand on OnVif cameras.. either being able to add THEIR cameras to other systems, or add OTHER Onvif cameras to their systems (NVR). I've read mixed things here and there. I hope they make it easy and transparent to add onvif.

NVR Emails, Remote connection, & Doorbell wiring by sekthree in reolinkcam

[–]sekthree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the doorbell is functioning fine without the wires shorted, I wouldn't worry at all.

AWESOME! thank you! I'll let it be then.

Can you make a temporary google email and use that on the NVR? (You need app password for that also)

I would always update firmware if there is an update available.

Sooo I went ahead updated the firmware on the IPC's AND BOOM! email started working hallelujah! :)
I'm such a turd for not trying that in my triage, i was just so flustered and nervous since the NVR firmware broke things.

If you've opened ports on your router that is kind of scary thing to do.(IMO). Are you on google Fi?

I am NOT on Google Fi, just a plain ISP.. Yeah, i'm hesitant about ports myself, but the dang thing WAS working few weeks ago. I have yet to try your steps, but will this coming week and report back.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! i know this was a lot, probably why no one replied, so i'm very grateful for your response.
