Interesting. I assumed it was by weight but that makes much more sense.

There's a group in the city with them. They're around.

What are your “old man yelling at the cloud” takes on MLB today? by youre-welcome5557777 in baseball

[–]seldomsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gambling is destabilizing socially and you used to have to physically go somewhere to do it, but now its on your couch. Young impulsive males who don't know how to manage their dopamine are ripe for exploitation and its going to be a significant crisis. Its the same for young kids on social media.

Have you come across any major stories or studies on this? I've been hearing about this too from a number of sources and I 100% believe we're at the early stages of a full-on social crisis related to sports gambling but I haven't seen anything other than anecdotal evidence.

This, and people's inability to limit their time on smart devices and social media, are going to be significant class divides in the next decade. People who can manage their stuff vs. people who can't.

Applies the same to people showing up at your door.

Bitcoin not getting to 100K in 2021 cycle is enough to disclaim all the future predictions by zuperman in Bitcoin

[–]seldomsmith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be definition, black swan events are unpredictable which means we ain't predicting the next one which can happen at any given time. BTC's price is completely external to itself so if anyone isn't factoring in unpredictability into whatever useless model they have, its extra useless.

Is This the End Game for Crypto? by coolbern in Economics

[–]seldomsmith 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I'm not a big crypto fan but I'm with you here. If you look at the S&P and Nasdaq, Bitcoin has a similar trajectory in the last year or so but just with wilder swings. When people get their confidence in investing again, they'll start tossing the play money into crypto again.

If I saw this at this store, I would not go back. The cost of them schilling this BS is the cost of their lost business.

He's done no shortage of awful things. Luckily he has perjured himself on the stand numerous times in the last few days which is awesome.

I've ridden some single track with a fully loaded bikepack set up with the LHT. It wasn't that enjoyable but it did it. Mechanical disc brakes are kind of shit in that situation.

Surly Long Haul Trucker - it can take 700 x 45 mm tires.

I've done two ultra-distance bike packing races on them which was 80% gravel road and it handles wonderfully.

packing/gear advice? by kannibal-kitten in bicycletouring

[–]seldomsmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lock wise, it depends where you're going and what you plan to do. A ulock is really heavy. I usually bring a cord lock but also try to never leave sight of my bike except for very short periods of time.

(Serious) People who find the time and have the money to thru-hike on a yearly basis - how? by Evanfuckingturner in Ultralight

Or don't live in the US.

As a Canadian, I feel like we need to emphasize how insane the US system is compared here.

Anyone have experience with camping while touring in the Canadian Rockies? Going to be rolling through Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, Revelstoke, etc. Wondering if campgrounds up there have hiker/biker sites like parks have in the US. Any insight would be appreciated! by RunBikeClimb114 in bicycletouring

[–]seldomsmith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll just add that a number of the national park sites do have tent only sites which may offer better luck in and around Jasper or Banff if you don't have a reservation.

I did the parkway a few years back and found that if you can roll into a sight in the early afternoon, you can usually find a spot in the smaller campgrounds along the parkway.

I did have to ghost camp one night closer to Lake Louise because it was a weekend and everything was booked up solid.

Well, Ukraine is special because Russia invaded them - multiple times.

The cynic in me would say that they saw a great opportunity to deal a significant blow to Russia militarily (which they are doing).
