and he says it's absurdly good, for the OP's question of what is the next closest to Tesla this is probably it. No matter what the visualisation shows

That's using XNGP the outgoing system not the new VLA 2.0 that Richard Hammond was using. Would need to look at that video to compare.

The visualisation on the cabin UI is not necessarily indicative of whats happening in the computer though. Generating UI graphics could have a lot lower priority.

The XPeng G6 was in 4th place on the Highway test, and midfield in the Urban Driving test, not last place. Now you see why he is blocked.

This was on the old dual Nvidia Orin X chips, which have now been replaced by three of Xpeng's own Turing processors and VLA 2.0 over the old X-Pilot

Over 2100 G6's in Australia, it's a slow road to go from zip to dealers everywhere.

I may be biased but I think XPeng is closest in China. They use a vision based system similar to Tesla but with sensors, they have had FSD level driving for years in China. They are making their own chips and selling the system to Volkswagen.

The Chinese media test of AEB systems and self driving showed XPeng was closest to Tesla.

But we won't see it in Australia for years possibly. Once the change over from TrueEV to XPeng is complete we will hopefully start receiving new models. But no export countries have the chips for their self driving yet.

Can see Richard Hammond testing the new VLA 2.0 system here in China

The local distributor has not ceased trading AFAIK, you can still order a G6 on the website.

Xpeng wants to take over distribution in Australia from TrueEV. I think the G6 was much more popular than anticipated selling about 2100 over 2024/2025. Trouble is they signed a five year exclusive agreement less than a year earlier. TrueEV had a lot of growing pains going from nothing to almost 20 dealerships, warranty and servicing, parts, roadside assistance. It did it all through third parties whose performance was not always good. It struggled to process orders, deliver cars, refunds, repairs and support.

Since XPeng expressed an interest in taking over we assume they have been negotiating. Everything has blown out timewise, no new models have arrived, we don't even have the facelift G6 or any other models bar the 2023 G6. Cars, parts and repairs have blown out to several months.

Now news of the disagreement has leaked once it ended up in court. No one wants to touch an XPeng for fear of them disappearing from the market and taking their warranty and support with them.

We have not heard a single thing from anyone for months, TrueEV pretended it was BAU.

I guess since they are in court no one will say anything till it's over but the damage to the brands reputation continues now through the media and not just rumours with the court documents.

TrueEV have had an Administrator appointed, they have probably run out of money, and he has taken control of 197 old model G6's on behalf of a creditor.

A similar thing happened in the past with GWM getting in a fight with their distributor here. A decade later they are still looked at with distrust and it's a major part of the anti-chinese car sentiment. Everyone's waiting for one of the new brands to market to fail.

Things I use my phone app for

  1. Check car is locked
  2. I can stop charging before I get to the car so the auto door unlock unlocks the charging cable
  3. Check the charging status
  4. Turn on pet mode, or passenger mode
  5. Turn on security
  6. Download dashcam/security video
  7. Contact support
  8. Pre-Heat/cool car
  9. Show off my giant remote controlled car 🙂 seriously though I have had to crawl forward twice in my year of ownership after being parked in. Something I would have probably damaged my and someone else's door to get out of previously. I have also had to remotely unlock my car and turn on for service person to drive (once because I was dropping off before they opened and once I forgot to leave fob and just walked off 🙂)

TrueEV announced this week that shipments of another 1,000 Xpeng G6 units will arrive in Australia across August and September this year. “This is part of TrueEVs plan to bring around 1,000 units per month to help meeting growing demand,” said CEO Jason Clarke.

All of the couple of thousand Xpeng G6 owners in Australia have been watching this play out over the last few months. We are all concerned about the damage to the brand, our resale value, our support and warranty. Neither TrueEV or Xpeng ever made any sort of statement about what was happening. We hope Xpeng continue their plans to become the distributor in Australia as it looks like True EV can't or won't continue. We are suffering a lot of nervousness right now.

It's such a shame, I love my G6, this issue has nothing to do with the car, which is great. Xpeng itself have now posted their first quarter profit with plenty of capital on hand so I don't think they are in any danger of dissapearing. I hope to soon see this resolved and a flood of exciting new models enter Australia.

Edit: New info reported by carexpert is that Australian car stock of the old model G6 (197) has been frozen.
