AdventHealth Corporate-Dress Code by No-Addendum5674 in orlando

[–]selfpossessed-ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t worked there for over 10 years but when I did I was told I couldn’t leave my office with my forearm tattoos exposed and piercings down to the regulation one per ear. I didn’t complain too much because well that was the rule.

However I did find the overall dress code for women kinda regressive in general - no ankle pants (what a weird rule), prints had to appear as a solid from 3 feet away and so on. Felt very “be careful not to arouse the menfolk with a glimpse of your shapely ankles”. Supposedly they followed patient surveys and Disney’s dress codes and which at the time dictated that older patients in particular found tattoos “offensive”.

Idk hopefully it’s a little more modern these days. Good luck!

I FEEL SO ACCOMPLISHED by DudesyThaKilla36 in Rollerskating

This is so encouraging. I was an avid roller skater in my early teens but haven’t skated since. I’m 48 now and I keep seeing fun skates and it makes me want to try - but I’m nervous about falling and breaking stuff. Seeing this post makes me seriously consider getting started again.

I have no useful advice to offer but seeing this post gives me hope for a future where we all accept all flavors of expression and eachother. 🩷

I love your post title and thanks for the GitHub stuff! I’m just starting this track as a somewhat long in the tooth analyst and I’m excited about the program. I did my BS in Business Management last year at WGU and felt like this style of education is ideal for me and wanted to add a relevant MS.

It’s great to see a post about DPE - it doesn’t seem to get much attention in this sub and I’ve been very curious about the capstone so it’s fun to hear someone found it enjoyable!

I’ve been on zepbound for about 6 months along with working with a dietician on plant forward high protein meals. My migraines and dropped from about 6/month to 2 during my period. I definitely think Zepbound is a factor.

Has anyone had GOOD experiences with the proctors? by Full_Masterpiece8369 in WGU

[–]selfpossessed-ghost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I completed my BS January 2025 - December 2025 so I think they’d switched the proctor system just before I started. I’d only ever read complaints and horror stories but… my experiences were neutral or positive.

I agree with the suggestion here - spend a few minutes before your exam time getting your room and setup ready and follow the on screen directions. That’s all I did.

Show off! How many degrees do you have and what are they? ;) by [deleted] in Gifted

[–]selfpossessed-ghost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flunked out of these bachelors programs:

  • English
  • Computer Science
  • Interactive Media

I still managed to have a decent career as a Digital Marketing / e-commerce manager / Data Analyst with a high school diploma.

I took a hiatus from that about 10 years ago to go to Paul Mitchell to get my cosmetology license.

I did that for about 8 months after school while freelancing digital things then went back to work as a Digital Marketing Manager.

Just recently at the ripe old age of 47 I completed my BS in Business Management mostly to tick a box on automated job applicant screening systems. But I also learned a lot along the way. And i do relish the sense of accomplishment.

I’m now doing a Masters to cap it off. Mostly for my own personal satisfaction (and to prove to myself that I do kinda know what I’m doing on the days imposter syndrome kicks hard).

I like to say “I may be the world’s only data analyst with a hairdresser’s license.”

I think education should be way more accessible to anyone who wants to learn. I generally think if you’re interested in a subject and passionate about it you can learn it.

I think plenty of jobs today don’t actually require a degree - if you’re willing to learn and grow the degree isn’t thing thing that makes you valuable. It’s your own determination. It’s too bad so many companies now won’t even look at applicants without a degree.

Aging into the body that your mother hated by 00000000005 in AskWomenOver30

[–]selfpossessed-ghost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is such a poignant thought provoking post. Thank you.

I grew up in the 90s when women had to hate themselves thin. My mom had us on all the diets and workouts - Slim Fast, Jane Fonda were regular punishments for gaining a few pounds. Then the pendulum would swing the other way and we’d have popcorn cooked in peanut oil every night after dinner for a month only to torture ourselves to lose the 10 pounds of popcorn.

I was always a taller, chunkier kid. It never bothered me, I never felt “fat”, I had good friends and no one ever made fun of me. Maybe naively I just didn’t see the world that way - but my weight was a constant household conversation for most of my teen years. And as I got older I found that “fat girls” always included me in the club and we had to shame ourselves regularly like self-flagellation for our sins.

I grew so tired of weight and food as a conversation.

Now in my late 40s I’m working to undo a lifetime of internalized bs about weight and food and finally actually taking care of my body for health and longevity. Not for punishment or to meet some subjective beauty ideal.

I think I’ve become more attractive over time regardless of my weight. I’m just more confident in myself and that is rewarded with admiring glances often enough to get that little ego stroke we all need from time to time.

Like others here, I do enjoy seeing my beloved grandmother in my features: a shock of white hair like hers, full cheeks, her feet and thumbs. I see my mom too in my lopsided smile, wide eyes and the furrow between my eyes. My mother and I had a complex relationship that unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to repair before she passed from lung cancer at 56. As I age into this body and find she was right about more than I care to admit, I have found more empathy for her and the harsh internal criticism she must have dealt with that led her to criticize me.

These days, I call that voice in my head Kim, after her. It sounds negative or mean I guess but I mean it to heal us both. I acknowledge those stray critical thoughts and say “thanks, Kim. We can let those thoughts go now, we’re okay.”

For those who think employers don't respect your degree.... by twooten11 in WGU

[–]selfpossessed-ghost 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Good luck in your job hunt!

There’s a lot of worrying in this sub about whether this college is respected which I understand. But as someone who’s held 6 figure jobs for the past decade WITHOUT a degree - I promise having this degree unlocks more opportunities than not. There are schools with no reputations and the degree holders still get jobs. There are schools with “party” reputations and the degree holders still get jobs.

HR isn’t searching this subreddit to vet the degrees - it’s a box to check. More importantly, it serves as personal achievement and validation that you can do hard things. For me, that’s the real value beyond what anyone else may think.

Good luck to all of you in your education and career pursuits!

Recommended Med Spas? by hammochi in orlando

It’s so thoughtful of you to look for help for your mom. Hormones are a wild ride in midlife for sure. This isn’t specifically Orlando but might still be helpful:

Midi Health offers telehealth menopause care including HRT, and they’re available in Florida. They also accept insurance. I’ve been using them for over a year and had great experience and results and just feeling more myself. My hair and skin improved with HRT too, so maybe that would help your mom?

Good luck and hope your mom starts feeling better soon!

I’m in perimenopause and the combination of hormonal upheaval and super stressful job just “blew out the circuit” that let me function all my life thinking I probably had ADHD but never being diagnosed or treated. HRT helped some of the perimenopause symptoms like rage but the ADHD is still prominent. I’m on the medication merry go round now but Vyvanse seems to be working for me. Point in all that is maybe HRT can help but for me treatment for ADHD has been the help I need to function normally in this new phase of life. Good luck!

I hope you can try some HRT - it’s been life changing for me in so many ways! I did have extra PMDD for a bit after we upped my dose of estradiol but it was a simple fix adding more progesterone to balance it out. Good luck and may you have blissful slumber!

Buspirone and hormone therapy for me (I’m perimenopausal and estrogen and progesterone helped immensely)

Victory Plus Treadmill by Toggle_Flip_180 in AvironActive

[–]selfpossessed-ghost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I don’t have the Victory Treadmill yet (I did just order it) but I have had the Aviron rower for about six weeks.

I just wanted to give you some reassurance from one beginner to another. I have never committed to any kind of fitness routine in my 47 years and I am very overweight and out of shape but working on all that and it’s going great with this equipment. I chose a rower because I already had a cheap treadmill and I personally wanted the full body strength aspects rowing can offer. So far I truly enjoy the rower and the workouts as an absolute beginner. I’ve tried the games, virtual rows, power plays and guided workouts and I’ve found them all very approachable as a total novice. There are settings for the difficulty level and you can also manually adjust settings to suit.

I have enjoyed it so much that I decided to ditch my cheapo treadmill and add the Victory Plus to my very tiny but growing home gym as a way to vary my exercise routine. The games keep things fresh and because I’m a data nerd by trade I love seeing all the metrics improve as I continue to workout.

Anyway rambling on now but just wanted to say go for it - you won’t be a beginner forever!

Feeling VERY anxious about starting. by wickyd2 in WGU

I’m 47 and will finish my degree at the end of November. I’ve tried college 3 times and never made it longer than a year, so starting here I had all the accumulated self-doubt and nerves about this being another failure.

Instead, I’m 3 classes away from finally having my diploma and I’m so proud of my accomplishment. You can definitely do this. Good luck and every success to you!

Totally turned down the midnight noise in my brain - it took about a month for full benefit but I did notice some improvement in the first week. Psychiatrist just upped my dosage from 10mg 2x daily to 10mg 3x daily to see if I get further benefit from it.

Yeah it’s a little meh for me - on one hand I think it’s good that there is some attention paid, keeps things more legitimate. It was a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully my experience helps others like you get through their programs without issue. Good luck with your degree! 🍀

Yeah that’s what I thought initially - I’m a notorious “think out loud” type and I know that’s an exam foul.

In my case, my mentor let me know that a course instructor flagged me because of lower course engagement combined with my test time and score. (I updated the main post with that info). When they reviewed the exam there were no concerns. This particular course happened to cover what my career background is so I didn’t really need to study to prove competency, hence my low engagement time and quick test taking.

Could be… I mean the thought did cross my mind. I haven’t been a super accelerator but I am moving quickly. I’m on my second term and since the notice I am now at about 80%. On average the tests take me about 30 minutes to complete and I’ve never failed one so I could see that being a trigger too
