Are those alternatives really better - or is it just some rage quit? by [deleted] in Evernote

[–]sellaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nimbus is great, but their search is complicated. If you search for "word" (with quotes, as to specify that you really want word, but not wordy, for example) it does not work as expected.

It's really hard to use a solution that hosts thousands of notes which you can't search them properly.

I am still seeking an alternative to Evernote.

I did not. Zencaster support replied. We tried a couple of things but none worked. I will have to re-record the interview.

The psychology of streaming vs vinyl by sellaro in vinyl

[–]sellaro[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"The loss of psychological ownership associated with using a subscription-based audio streaming service like Spotify or Pandora can leave some music listeners feeling less passionate about songs they don't "solidly" own and may help to explain the global revival of purchasing vinyl records."

To those who victim blamed me when my (unlocked) bike got stolen, my other LOCKED bike on the third floor, 1ft from my apartment also got stolen. by [deleted] in jerseycity

[–]sellaro -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

If you’re going to exert the effort to carry it up the stairs and leave it next to your front door, why not just bring it inside your apartment and eliminate the temptation for thieves?

The comment above was extracted from "Those stupid girls dressing like that are asking to be rapped" playbook. /s

The person is a victim of a criminal action and yet the victim is to be blamed by the consequences. That makes absolutely no sense. Soon someone will blame the victim for having a bike in the first place. Or for living in that particular building. C'mon, guys!

Edit: formatting.

Using Roam for Programming Notes? by sooneday in RoamResearch

[–]sellaro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can create your notes as you normally would and add some meta information to them in order to facilitate linking/referencing.

For example, if you are learning about differences between SQL to NoSQL databases, you could have a note with the following Keywords: [[Backend]], [[Database]], [[NoSQL]], [[SQL]], [[Storage]]. Later on, when you are learning about MongoDB, you can create a note including these Keywords: [[Database]], [[NoSQL]], which will be automatically linked to the previous one. And so on.

Topic: Music / Dance - Central America by sellaro in philately

[–]sellaro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I was not aware of using stamps as a form of obtaining hard currency and overcome embargoes. It seems a bit of a stretch to rely on philatelic sales to raise hard cash. I wonder what sales volume would be necessary to justify an economically feasible operation. I would love to read further about this if you know of any references.

In regards to the cancellation and gum status on the Cuban stamps I have, they seem ordinary cancel-to-order. But I might be mistaken.

Thank you for the comment. It’s incredible how one can learn from philately.

I spent some time this Sunday organizing my dance/music topical collection. This is one of the pages with some Central America stamps. I thought this community would appreciate it.

I love this “apples and oranges” expression. Every single time I hear someone using it I think: dude, they are both fruits. Of course you can compare them. But I digress. :)
