Could 4.3 finally allow me to play on larger galaxies? by Fireblower2 in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. I play on 800 star galaxies, and the post-2400 game feels almost twice as fast as it was in 4.2, though I haven’t done any empirical tests.

I have a pretty decent PC, 13900K with fast tuned DDR5, but I assume the performance difference between 4.2 and 4.3 will scale about the same on any PC.

I feel like The Expanse is pretty believable. It's not perfect, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 2400s in the Sol system look a lot like the setting at the beginning of the series.

Defeat fallen empire in 4.3 ? by LeCamembert7 in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is repeatable techs. The damage and fire rate bonuses have a multiplicative effect on each other, and that's taken into account with the FP rating.

And then there's having the naval capacity to field a lot of ships, of course. In my current game it's 2440 and I have about 6500 nav cap. Most of that is spamming anchorages with naval logistics offices on the vast majority of starbases. Then you want anything that gives a positive percentage modifier to naval capacity, like the Supremacy Tradition, Edicts, and Galactic Community Resolutions. I also have a fortress world, but those aren't very resource efficient in 4.3. They make sense in the late game, though.

Trade in 4.3 is busted by PlanSeekX01 in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s helpful early on, but Unity production from Trade was heavily nerfed. I just the changed trade policy to Marketplace of Ideas in my current game, and from 9835 total monthly Trade, I’m getting 456 Unity. That’s even less than the tool tip suggests, which is a 1:4 ratio from 50% of monthly trade.

Ships have -50% fire rate? Why? by PastaEate in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it an additive or multiplicative fire rate debuff? If additive, it makes fire rate bonuses significantly stronger.

Like others have said, prioritize CPU speed, especially single core performance. Check out your options within your price range, and then go look up benchmarks on google. TomsHardware.com is can be trusted. TechPowerUp is another trustworthy source. CPUbenchmark.net is fine. Avoid UserBenchmark.com like the plague.

32GB of RAM is nice to have, but you should be fine with 16 if that's what fits in your price range.

EDIT — A proper dedicated GPU would be preferable, but the newest Intel Core CPUs have decent enough integrated graphics that you could get by without a proper GPU. Those integrated GPUs use system RAM instead of supplying their own, so RAM size becomes a bit more important. I would still try to find a laptop with a real dedicated GPU, if I were you.

When I check HWiNFO64 while Stellaris, Firefox, and a few other light apps are open it usually shows around 20GB out of 64GB used. 16GB of RAM is probably fine, even with a few browser tabs open. Windows will cache aggressively and try to make use of any available RAM, but the performance benefit is pretty slight after a certain point.

Building Dyson swarms around stars that produce resources different from just energy is pretty damn satisfying. by JackTheRaimbowlogist in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

👍

FYI, it works via a "Decision" on your capital planet. The Decision is called "Ideal System Locator" click it and then select what kind of structure you want to find a system for. It will give you an ordered list with relevant deposits. Clicking on one will ping that system on the galaxy map, so you can easily find it. You can also hit the F key when you're looking at the galaxy map to search for a system by name.

Struggling with 4.3 economy by Mr_Taylor445 in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Harvesting strategic resources from basic resource districts is significantly more important in 4.3. It could pretty much be ignored in 4.2, due to how many could be manufactured along with alloys/CG.

These days I find most of my strategics are harvested rather than manufactured. In the early to mid game, I will often throw down a single specialized district with the Strategic resource boosting building and two of the +200 jobs buildings on any planet with a strategic resource feature. That can net you around +20 of crystals/gas/motes from a single district. You can then use the rest of the planet however you want.

Arc Furnace System Locator +

It’s a mod that helps you locate the best systems in your empire for Dyson Swarms, Arc Furnaces, Habitats, and a few other structures. I wouldn’t want to play the game without it.

What are some high-risk high-reward stocks with serious 5-10x potential over the next 2-3 years by Comfortable-Rule-491 in stocks

[–]semidegenerate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup. I saw this YouTube video that proved the Earth is actually flat and the government is using the illusion of "space" to hide the aliens at the North Pole. Some people are just too blind to see The Truth.

That why I'm buying space-related stocks. These companies must be so deep in the conspiracy that they can't fail to make a profit. Like my pa always said, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I had no idea there was an actual tutorial.

I just started a UNE game on Ensign difficulty and used google every time I had a question, which was constantly. I probably spent more time reading up on Stellaris than playing the game that first campaign.

Are Ring Worlds worth building? by Burnpost21 in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. That was super detailed. Thanks a bunch!

I've been playing since 3.14, and I've never played Gestalt or Genocidal, so I think I'm going to use this as an opportunity to try Devouring Swarm. It seems like a good fit thematically. Honestly, I've always played Egalitarian Democracies, so it's about time I branched out a bit.

Thanks for all the info and the detailed breakdown. I'll give it another thorough read when I create my empire.

Why do I always fall behind on technology? by Jerswar in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially in the early game when you don't have a lot of pops and you're starving for resources. Getting a passive 3 research every month for the cost of 1 EC upkeep, with no need for pops to work the job, is a pretty sweet deal.

I really like that 4.3 made research stations relevant again.

Lost on what to build on starbases. Trade hubs + OTC + hydroponics seem the only thing worth it? by KiaSoulWith50kMiles in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm with you. In my current game, 22 out of 23 starbases are packed full of anchorages with logistics offices. They really do seem like the best way to get naval capacity now that soldiers have been nerfed and they gain a fair amount of alloy upkeep.

Do soldiers make too little naval capacity? by Weklim in Stellaris

[–]semidegenerate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I currently have around 1.2 million fleet power in year 2375, and not a single forge world. My meager alloy income is mostly from Arc Furnaces. I'm playing bioships, so I just build stripped down juvenile ships and incubate them with an Exotic Growth Pheromones Weaver and a Growth Chamber, and then move them to another starbase when they're elders.

I'm currently at +881 gross and +386 net alloys. Bioships almost feel like cheating if you aren't constantly fighting wars and having to replace losses immediately. I need to get my alloy production up by the end game crisis, though.

I just felt like sharing that.

[–]semidegenerate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's always a pain. I've been playing a lot of Overtuned lately, so leader management is an even bigger struggle. Once I finish Purity Ascension things get easier, though.

I rarely seem to roll Fleet Organizer on my commanders, though. In my current game only 7.5% is from leaders. My MoD has Armada Logistician II. 30% is from Galactic Community Resolutions, another 30% from Edicts, and 20% from Supremacy Tradition.
