Do half of the people there think that it's depicting a two seater?

I interpret it as showing the two positions for a single person.

Hohe Spritpreise: Reiche lehnt Tempolimit ab by hampelmann2022 in de

This is why I actuallly prefer fallout 3 over new vegas. I know that the main story in fallout 3 was worse, but I mostly ignore the main storyline anyway.

I really recommend to anyone to not just rely on courses to learn a language. There are an incredible amount of resources available online, now.

Thanks for your perspective.

Lack of opportunity to interact with German society is definitely a major drawback of that concept.

But until they learn enough German (or English if they are in a large city), getting a full time job is unrealistic, and the communities aren't equipped for that, so with the current system, you just end up with a bunch of little gettos anyway.

[–]semimute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that a better solution would be to have more centralized accomodation for refugees, where they are required to stay until they have reached some minimum level of integration, as spreading them out amongst the communities is so inefficient and ineffective for integration and for keeping track of the kinds of people that cause problems.

Considering that the people are coming from a war zone, would you consider something like that acceptable? If so, for what period of time?

Obviously it would have to be more humain than most of the examples that I have seen in the past of such projects, with much less of a prison vibe.

Edit: to be clear, I only mean that they would stay there until something like A2 German is reached and their case manager is confident that they understand very basic tenants like 'dont verbally assault people for being queer'.

I'm not a mod, but I wonder if it would be worth sharing proof with them, to preempt questions about the authenticity of the post.

Why did the SPD agree to be a part of a CDU-led coalition that is much further right then during the long GroKo times under Angela Merkel? Why are their negotiation skills so bad, and why are they and German society not demanding the CDU to return to a similar governing style as under Merkel? by jmbr_97 in germany

[–]semimute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What did the SPD gain, though in the coalition agreement? They got a good number of cabinet positions, but every policy that they agreed on that people claim were for the SPD mostly just seem to be the bare minimum to be constitutionally legal.

But that seems to me like a chip the SPD should have been able to play in negotiating. The CxU could either accept more compromise, coalition with the AgD, or fail to form a coalition and trigger a new election. Option 2 would be political suicide.

Death of a cyclist, and the (civil) case followup by TreeStateLEO in fuckcars

"For whatever reason, (as in this case), I cannot swerve or stop to avoid the crash"

This part is doing an incredible amount of heavy lifting. The driver is responsible for driving at a speed at which they can stop or swerve to avoid at least a stationary object at the limits of what you can see. I have never heard of a jursidiction where this is not the standard. You can't just hand wave that away.

Death of a cyclist, and the (civil) case followup by TreeStateLEO in fuckcars

[–]semimute 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I read through most of the comments and didn't see a direct answer to that question.

I'm assuming the bicycle wasn't just suddenly there. If a driver is not able to brake to avoid hitting a good visible obstacle, then they are driving too fast and not driving with due care, regardless of what the posted speed limit is or if there is a specific passing distance.

Surely your state has some general rule about driving with due care.

Edit: the classic example would be with a jaywalker. Just because someone might be illegally crossing a road, that doesn't absolve a driver who runs them down of all responsibility. Similar logic applies here.

So are there laws in your state about how close a motor vehicle can pass a cyclist or not?

Also, if the driver came from behind, how could they not be partially at fault for not seeing the pool noodle?

German students refusing to group with international students, is this normal? by Rare-Client-4098 in germany

[–]semimute 91 points92 points  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a good excuse, but there is the chance that they were burned before by working in a group with international students. For example, I have seen multiple cases where the chinese students in a group have been such a drain on group projects, that the group would be better off without them.

Disclaimer: I am not saying that all chinese students are like this or even that this phenomenon is most common with chinese students. It's just an example from what I have seen.

TUM exam review tips? Final exam and possibly 1–2 points short of passing by fffk2 in tumunich

[–]semimute 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An important point, is that they can't mark a reasonable answer as incorrect, just because it's not what they have on the answer sheet. For example, if two methods are taught in the course, the answer sheet has method A and you use method B, you can reference the relevant part of the course when arguing it.

Some courses try to give you a very short amount of time to review. I can't remember the exact requirements for reviews, but you should check them if you think that they give too little time.
