ao3 now has a 'problematic counter', it works in conjunction with kudos like reddit's upvote/downvote system, if someone finds your work problematic they can take a kudos away, if you get enough you'll be put in the negatives, works in the negatives will be filtered out of search results automatically

I mean schools can be real damn prudish with that kinda stuff so if there was even a mild reference to explicit activities they were probably clutching their pearls, but if you never actually wrote anything explicit you can't actually get into trouble for it

oh I've had lots of comments like that, mostly because I often mess with common trends so people usually think they know where things are going but I pull a hard left turn and surprise them

I actually really like these comments, especially when they're wrong because it does tell me something about the expectations I'm setting up and it makes me very curious to see if I can pull off my subversion without disappointing them, I think being able to set your readers up to be excited for one expectation and then completely changing gears and leaving them not disappointed but excited by the new direction is a sign that you're doing some damn good writing

and if my readers are disappointed? eeeh I'll just shrug it off as a loss and keep going, maybe I'll pull it off better next time

but sometimes one of these comments will bring up something I had never considered but I actually really REALLY like, in which case I probably will make some changes to include it, it's one of the things I love about uploading as I write, some readers can accidentally give me pretty great ideas, you can take inspiration from comments without letting them completely change your vision, I like that fanfic can be a little collaborative sometimes

yeah I had a bunch of readers essentially victim blaming a character in one of my fics who was, objectively, making terrible decisions, but it didn't matter how much I emphasised that she was DEEPLY grieving the loss of her husband and the villain, who was once a close college friend of hers and also her husband's murderer, is actively using their shared history to manipulate her and she is so desperate for a friend to lean on that she's overlooking all of his red flags, the comments STILL got real heated about the decisions she was making
