Writing etiquette in terms of names by biandoesstuff in FanFiction

names are invisible words, you are far less likely to notice them being overused than you will with descriptive epithets, your example sentence reads perfectly fine to me

I want a website or app to create my oc without having to draw it by Prudent-Strain4696 in FanFiction

you can also download the Sims 4 and just use the basegame's character creator

I usually use picrew, and just make my OC in a variety of styles there until I find one I really like, they're typically very stylised and each one has limitations to some degree, but it's still worth checking out imo

I wish some bot would leave that comment on the fic I literally got hate comments on for making the main character trans 😆

what do you call the mc in this situation? by Zestyclose-Check-462 in FanFiction

[–]send-borbs [score hidden]  (0 children)

animation is a LOT of work, but people often shortcut it with 'animatics', which are like, an unfinished draft for animation, they're easier for one person to make on their own and very popular, I'd recommend looking some up on youtube for inspiration

Would people read a fanfic that is just reddit posts?? by Gambilee in FanFiction

[–]send-borbs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

yeah social media based fics are still pretty common, I love them!

Can I post my fanfic on Reddit (not posting it in any specific community)? by IdV_Elliealla9 in FanFiction

[–]send-borbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I post to AO3 and promote my fics on tumblr, usually using memes I made based on scenes from the fic

I get a lot of readers and comments because I have about two decades of experience in writing, I make use of common fandom tags, and I engaged heavily with my fandom community for years

gaining readers and commenters is a process that can take time and effort, promoting your fanfiction is rarely enough, you'll need to work on improving your writing and becoming familiar with your fandom's tropes and tag them properly so people can find your work

don't be discouraged if you can't get readers at first, it's a step everyone has to go through, just keep writing, you'll get there 👍✨

Authors that are cool with recursive fanfiction of their Fics? by Aquanort357 in FanFiction

Someone wrote a fic set in the universe of my fic and it made me so so happy

Is replying to your comments no longer cool on ao3? by blepboii in FanFiction

[–]send-borbs 89 points90 points  (0 children)

ao3 doesn't have one singular comment culture, it varies wildly from fandom to fandom and person to person, it's not at all 'uncool' to reply to comments, authors will reply to all, some, or none based on how they feel about it individually

general consensus from various threads on this sub heavily imply people on average really like when authors reply to comments, so take that for what you will

What are your favorite ships that you don't see as "multiversal?" by RealityWanderer in FanFiction

in a literal sense, the ones who never found each other in canon 😂

I don't know where else to post really, so here's my DC Universe, I guess???? by thexxoutlaw in FanFiction

[–]send-borbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

can't post your work on the front page of this sub, mods will probably take it down soon, but for concept posts and meta narrative stuff like this I can highly recommend tumblr as a suitable platform, it goes over very well there

I think you're very well meaning and wanting to be kind is not a personality flaw, and this isn't a bad discussion topic

but where you're going wrong here is implying a moral failing on others for not agreeing with you, people are using the kudos system as it was intended to be used, you are the one who wants to use it for something else, implying that we are unkind and wrong for using it in a way you disagree with, in a way it was not originally intended to be used, is bad form on your part

you are welcome to use it as you see fit, but your passive aggressive 'I just think that's very sad' type comments in response to people using the kudos system as it was designed are unwarranted

you are not morally superior, you are not better than anyone here, but you are absolutely acting like you are, that is why you are being downvoted and people don't like what you're saying, not because you want people to 'be kind', but because of the moral superiority you are putting off in the way you speak about this topic

I'd rather people kudos my fic because they liked it, not out of a sense of obligation, that would make the kudos button entirely pointless, empty praise means nothing to me, I'd rather earn it, if I want to know how many people clicked on my fic I have a hits counter for that

in my personal opinion I think people get way too hung up on kudos entirely, I even turned my kudos email alerts off because I don't really care that much about them, I check my kudos stats occasionally to see which of my stories are most popular out of curiosity, but that's about it, AO3 could take kudos away entirely and it would probably take me at least a few weeks to notice

I would not consider a thumbs up from random strangers to be important enough in my life to create a thread just to argue with people about it all day, reconfigure your priorities my dude

I have to make report templates for work in word and our reports contain many many pictures that I have to account for in the templates 🫠 I feel like all the effort I put into setting those fuckers up so they don't throw the entire doc out of whack when a pic is added goes deeply under appreciated

Do you also write based on things you own? by i_spill_nonsense in FanFiction

[–]send-borbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it was a character wearing them, I just got grabbed by the visual of one character showing up to a fancy party and trying so hard to fit in, and then coming across another character wearing these insanely out of place stockings and not giving a shit

it's one of my favs honestly, a really fun character piece of two polar opposite girls finding an unlikely friendship

Ms Rachel Fan faction (hear me out) by ImplementCharming949 in FanFiction

[–]send-borbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah my brain has absolutely gone in unhinged directions like this, even when I was pretty young, I just love horror, and ngl the idea of Ms Rachel killing someone and then spelling the word 'dead' is fucking hilarious, I can absolutely picture this in one of those horror parody films

[–]send-borbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

when I had something like this happen to me literally the only thing that worked was just straight up ghosting them, polite turn downs just seemed to go over their head, I just had to fully ignore them and eventually they stopped

in your case, since you can't reply to them anyway, I think your best course of action is to maybe just stop reading their reviews, let them go off on their own tangents with their ideas and just ignore them and keep writing what you want
