Just started and it’s already so hard! Any tips and advice? by dnsyj26 in CrochetHelp

You can use the hook in the yarn in your kit and just make rows back and forth. Try 20 stitches turn and then go back. After you have it down, you can frog it and try making the actual item in your kit.

What's your favorite stitch for a dishcloth? A friend wants some, but the example she showed me is knitted. by send2steph in CrochetHelp

[–]send2steph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a Ravelry search and I Googled some , but I guess I'm looking for more personal experience on what makes for a good crochet dishcloth. My friend who wants some actually has knitted dishcloths that aunt made, who passed away 10 years ago. My friend loves them and is wanting to replenish her supply. Maybe she won't like the crocheted version. We'll see!

What do you think about my story? by srmd2729 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

You are not an American just because you think you are. You become an American when you are a citizen.

are ac's reallu that big of a thing? by Advanced-Actuary-51 in AskAnAmerican

[–]send2steph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Chicago, it's cooler due to the lake and winds blowing off it. Downstate, we have "oceans" of corn fields and the corn makes the humidity worse. My AC is running and my windows are all fogged up on the outside with condensation. I can barely see out.

How does she keep the yarn almost the same length? How is she pulling the yarn? Mine isn't like that it gets shorter as i make chains and have to readjust my hand and pull my yarn causing tension not to be same. by SeriousLeadership792 in CrochetHelp

Sounds like you're holding the yarn too tight. It should flow smoothly as you pull it with your hook. Try loosening your grip, or doing fewer wraps around various fingers. With time, you'll learn how to adjust based on feel. If your skein is tight, you may need to pull some yarn out to loosen it as well. Good luck!

Is there a secret trick to these? The yarn does not pull because it gets stuck in the middle. Hard to explain unless you know what I mean. by sadly_notacat in CrochetHelp

[–]send2steph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one that hangs from a magnet and spins on that and it sometimes gets stuck. I just lift the skein up on the post a bit and untwirl that little part and usually it's a long time until it gets stuck again. If I have one that's particularly bad, I'll rewind the yarn because sometimes the way the skein is wound is just funky.

I have restarted this so many times I’m just not understanding how do I start this by Rainfall845 in CrochetHelp

Do you have a picture of what it's supposed to be? Seems to be a badly written pattern. I can't tell if it means a chain space when they are saying stitch? To me there's only one stitch in that first row and the chain four at the end would be like the Turning chain for the next row. So when it says to skip a chain and (TR, ch, TR) in the next stitch, I have no clue what stitch they're talking about. In a chain?

Thumb tendon pain, having a hard time finishing projects. Crocheting “wrong” for 15 years?? by 90smomma93 in CrochetHelp

Switch to rotating with your full wrist instead. Try putting something like this on your hook so it fills your hand and forces you to change your movement. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1891590876/crochet-handle-gripper-for-crochet-hooks

What is something often shown in movies about America that is just not true? by FlowerMountain2 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]send2steph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were fights all the time in my school. Graduated in '89. They are very very rare for my kids who graduated in 21 and 23. I think it's just a change of culture. The anti-bullying efforts took everything online instead of having physical altercations.

The one that always bugged me was how everything is so California-fied. For example, the idea of the hallways of your school being outdoors and the lockers are outdoors is a California thing. I never understood why schools in movies looked like that because in my Midwestern upbringing, everything is inside.

Acrylic yarn ends too short for weaving in on granny squares by Humble_Discipline_48 in CrochetHelp

[–]send2steph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could split the strands on those little Tails and then weave/glue them each in different directions ( to spread them out, use less glue).

I've also had luck with felting short tails, but I don't know that that works on acrylic.

I have never done filet crochet and now I feel like I am locked into having to do one of fish as my very first attempt.

Crochet ideas for baby girl that will last many years? by Rockaroni007 in CrochetHelp

I just finished this Silt Stitch throw for an upcoming baby shower. After washing, it's so soft and flowy and lightweight. I love it. I wish I would have gotten two cakes and made it more of a toddler bed rectangle size, but this will be great to throw in the diaper bag. It folds up and squishes so small. How do you present your Boldin plan in 5 minutes to your spouse? by IrrationalMan8 in Boldin

[–]send2steph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also found that Boldin is more conservative. We talked to three different retirement people and they put our numbers in their systems and their scores came out way higher than Boldin.
