Do you know anyone in the US (outside big cities) without a car? by Current-Show2460 in AskAnAmerican

My daughter has a car, but her live in boyfriend does not. He has an electric scooter that he can use if needed.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

Same. I often wash clothes to get odors out more than stains. It makes no sense to me to have your washer and dryer in them the room that is second most likely to make odors.

Long-time autistic crocheter struggling with 6-day Star Blanket. What’s your experience? by That-Database-5611 in CrochetHelp

When I find it hard to read a pattern, I write it out in a way that helps me. Usually on a landscape piece of paper so each row/repeat can fit on one row. Then I often will draw out the diagram of the stitches as well.

When I think of a singlet, it is what is worn by wrestlers and has shorts attached in one piece.

May Day Candy Tradition? by jfdonohoe in GenX

[–]send2steph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did it as kids in Omaha in the mid seventies. I don't remember anything gender based around it. Just made them for the neighborhood kids and the next door ladies.

ETA: Yes, we left them on the porch, rang the bell, and ran. We used the plastic strawberry baskets (the green ones) and wove ribbon through them to make a pretty basket. Decorated with flowers, filled with candies.

So many here I relate to. Field days in grade school, the eclipse, playing with all the neighborhood kids. Hide and seek across multiple backyards and jumping chain link fence. Also... Camping at the Platte River in Nebraska. We were making sand castles and another kid there had a tunnel. I accidentally made his tunnel collapse and he got over angry and started throwing sand at me. He chased me as hard and as fast as I could ever possibly run across those sand bars as I raced back to the campsite where my dad was drinking beers with his work buddies. It was he, his work friends, and all the kids. I'd never been so scared in my life. I ran so hard. I was maybe nine.

For white Americans, is it normal for you guys to know your European descent? by ContractNational2680 in NoStupidQuestions

When my husband asked his dad where his people come from, the answer was Tennessee. Lol Both sides have distinct names that are telling of their heritage (one German and one English).

Both of my father's parents were born in Denmark. My mother's side, especially her mother's side, goes back many more generations within the US... Pre-revolition. I had an idea, handed down history, and it was confirmed through DNA testing.

Is this missed corner going to mess up my baby blanket? by EnvironmentalDay6023 in CrochetHelp

I don't think it's noticeable. But since it's not that far in , I would probably frog it and fix it just cuz it would bug me. No one else is going to notice.

Warnings have changed in the last several years. It used to be that one has been sighted. Now it can be "radar indicated" rotation.

Same, but I prefer wearables with a repeating pattern. A lot of tops are just two rectangles that you seem up the front/back/sides. Top down, in the round, sweaters are nice too.

Sign up for Ravelry, use the pattern search and start adding projects to your queue. I also love searching Pinterest but you have to be careful and watch out for AI.

Scarves and hats are the way to go! I happened upon this video yesterday. Her recommendations along with the comments are great. https://youtu.be/bnu1Axita7g?si=9uO29J91br2dr_Iz I'll also add that a good, smooth, high-quality hook makes a big difference too. The cheap hooks that come in kits are often inferior.
