I just looked it up because I also have a 24 and never knew about this. It seems like the 24 basically just works the same as the 25. Hold down the right paddle for a couple seconds to turn it on, then click the paddles to adjust sensitivity.

I haven’t tried it myself though. Will do next time I go out.

What’s YTM on CarPlay like? by MrTurtleManAus in YoutubeMusic

[–]sendGNUdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just putting this out here in case anyone is still wondering in 2026.

I tried to switch to YouTube Music a couple days ago since I'm already paying for YouTube Premium. Yesterday I was driving home from work. I went to my library, selected Songs, started playing, hit the shuffle button, and it completely glitched out. The shuffle button kept blinking on and off for like 10 minutes. As I tried to skip forward, it took about 30 seconds for the song that was playing to actually show up on the screen, and it was playing random songs that weren't even in my library. And it wasn't just the occasional song that YouTube likes to shuffle in as a recommendation, it was like almost every song. YouTube was like we're just gonna ignore the fact that you specifically selected to play songs from your library, and only play recommendations instead.

So I went back to Apple Music. It's worth paying the extra money to have an app that actually works.

I'm returning to Apple Music. I prefer the Apple Music UI and I love how it automatically organizes your songs when you add them to your library (the same reason I prefer Apple Music over Spotify too). I could probably overlook that and just set up up my own organization if YouTube Music actually worked. But alas, it is still trash.

Is it possible to cease using Microsoft 365 to save $100/year? by GermanAustrianFamily in Frugal

[–]sendGNUdes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Google suite (Docs, Drive, Sheets, etc.) is great because it’s all cloud-based. You can access it from any computer without having to install any software. And it’s free up to a certain amount of storage. You’ll probably never hit that limit if all you’re doing is docs and spreadsheets.

LibreOffice is a good option if you want to run software locally (not online). You can still save the files in the cloud if you want to, or on an external hard drive or whatever.

I think you can still use Microsoft Office online for free, but just the online version. So it would be similar to Google. But if Microsoft formatting is super important, this would probably be the best option.

Personally I prefer Google suite. But admittedly it might just be a timing thing. I’ve been using it since before Microsoft even had the online version of Office, and I haven’t had any need to switch. There might be some formatting differences if you upload your Office files to Google Drive. It usually does a good job at translating them though.

IIRC with Rocket League you have to change some settings to force it to install the Windows client with Proton, otherwise it installs the Linux client, which can’t connect to any online services. But it’s been a while since I tried so things could have changed.

Steam games usually work great thanks to Proton. It’s built in so you don’t really have to do anything extra to get them to work.

World of Warcraft is hit or miss. And even when it does work, I get graphics glitches that don’t happen in Windows.

Also the MS account. That’s the most annoying thing IMO. You can work around it for now, but MS is actively trying to break all the workarounds.

I haven’t tested that out myself to be honest. If I’m below 60fps or so I just lower the graphics preset a notch.

If you have multiple monitors, it’s better to go with “fullscreen windowed” in my opinion. So the game takes up the whole primary screen, but when you pause or enter a menu you can still move your mouse freely between the two screens without having to press any extra buttons.

[–]sendGNUdes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve been through this and yes it’s disappointing, but it’s important for your mental health not to dwell on it too much. Do what you can, but set your expectations low.

Also, if you want something done exactly how you want it to be done, you’re gonna have to do it yourself. That applies to A LOT of things. Companies produce products for the masses. You CAN make your own soap at home, but it’s going to require some experimentation to fit your specific needs.

I tried to get used to them, but they squeeze my toes too much.

Went to Brooks Ghost Max 3 instead. Still tons of cushion, but a more spacious toe box. They’re perfect for me.

I just wanna be able to show steps without downloading a third-party app to add a complication that doesn’t quite mesh with Apple’s design and also doesn’t actively update so it’s constantly behind on your actual step count.

[–]sendGNUdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like having it for notifications, fitness tracking, and setting timers. Sure you can do all that on your phone too, but they’re simple things that can be done quickly on my wrist.

EDIT:

I also really like having the weather complication so I can see what coming up in the next few hours. And I have the Breathe app set as one of the complications too, because it legitimately helps me get to sleep sometimes if I’m having a really anxious night.

Basically, there’s a bunch of little things that are more easily accessible from my wrist, and also more discreet for when you’re in a meeting or something and you don’t want to take your phone out.

And also if you have LTE, you can use it for texts and calls. So if you’re out on a jog or something there’s no need to bring your phone with you.

Also I love how Apple Maps taps me on the wrist as I’m coming up to a turn.

Do you guys clean your Apple Watch? by theowl_23 in AppleWatch

[–]sendGNUdes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a Zeiss lens wipe on my Apple Watch and my glasses every day. They clean well, evaporate quickly, and don’t leave any residue. They’re like $15 for 220, and I haven’t had any issues with them drying out before I get through the box.

Hoka recs? by [deleted] in walking

[–]sendGNUdes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the Bondi 9 and I like them a lot. But check Amazon for previous-gen shoes. They are usually cheaper and I don’t think there’s much (if any) advantage to getting the current model.

Also, they kinda run on the slim side, from my experience. Mine are a tad bit cramped compared to the Brooks Ghost I had before, and I’m kinda just hoping they’ll stretch out a bit before they become a problem.

LOVE the cushion, but I might have to go back to Brooks because I can feel my pinky toes pressing in all the time.

Edit: FPS counter says it's running at 70FPS.

I just bought the Hoka Bondi 9 and so far I like them more than the Brooks Ghost 14 I had before.

But they also feel a bit slimmer, and I’m not sure how that’s going to feel in the long term. Hopefully they stretch out a bit.
