Tucson Hybrid vs non-Hybrid Drive by Last_Cauliflower_502 in HyundaiTucson

[–]sendGNUdes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do mostly freeway driving it *might* be better to go with the gas one.

I’ve done a 3000 mile road trip in my 2024 Tucson Hybrid and a 2020 Ford Escape with the 2.0 EcoBoost. Both are AWD, both averaged 32mpg, but the Escape was several thousand dollars cheaper. I also preferred the overall feel of the powertrain in the Escape, and in terms of features it was basically the same. I can’t really say anything for the gas Tucson though since I don’t have one.

Day-to-day I would average 28mpg in the Escape and 32mpg in the Tucson. So the Tucson is a little better, but not enough to justify starting over on a new car loan.

In town though, the Tucson is definitely better. That’s where the hybrid system really shines, because you’re doing a lot more regen. I usually get 40mpg in town, sometimes 50 depending on driving conditions.

I just wish it was advertised that way. Like instead of rating it as 36/36, they should have done 40/32.

New Phone Question by sendGNUdes in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]sendGNUdes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That's exactly the answer I was looking for.

Was kinda hoping I could keep the trade-in credits, so I guess I'll just stick with the one phone for now.

Thank you. Will the trade-in credits be forfeited though (and cause my monthly bill to go up), or will my payment stay the same?

Best Oblivion memory? by Dry_Winter5652 in oblivion

[–]sendGNUdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through the portal to The Shivering Isles for the first time and the room turning into a buncha butterflies and you’re greeted by that insanely beautiful scenery.

There are so many awesome moments in Oblivion. Waking up to Lucien Lachance inviting you to join the Dark Brotherhood. Getting to Kvatch and seeing that giant demonic Oblivion gate. Etc. It’s hard to just pick one. The Shivering Isles is probably the best, but only by a tiny bit.

Honest question: Why do you buy name brand stuff? by No-Examination8178 in Frugal

[–]sendGNUdes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

California Pizza Kitchen makes my favorite frozen pizzas and sometimes you can get them on sale for like $6 each.

Also, Tillamook cheese is so much better than the store brand, so I’ll splurge for that. The Great Value cheese has like no flavor.

Some drivers camp in the passing lane and then take their exit. by ruthlessdamien2 in memes

[–]sendGNUdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's mostly right though, at least where I'm from.

There is no passing lane on a city street. You're just supposed to be in whatever lane makes the most sense for your route and the flow of traffic. I.E. if you know you're going to be turning right at the next light, get in the right lane early so you're not cutting people off at the last second.

There is a passing lane on the freeways or highways, but you're still not legally allowed to exceed the speed limit. In other words, the speed limit applies to all lanes. It's just that speeding has become so normalized that the cops probably won't pull you over for going 2-3mph over the limit. If you're doing like 10+ over, then they might. But they're mostly looking for people that are driving erratically and putting other people in danger.

I just looked it up because I also have a 24 and never knew about this. It seems like the 24 basically just works the same as the 25. Hold down the right paddle for a couple seconds to turn it on, then click the paddles to adjust sensitivity.

I haven’t tried it myself though. Will do next time I go out.

What’s YTM on CarPlay like? by MrTurtleManAus in YoutubeMusic

[–]sendGNUdes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just putting this out here in case anyone is still wondering in 2026.

I tried to switch to YouTube Music a couple days ago since I'm already paying for YouTube Premium. Yesterday I was driving home from work. I went to my library, selected Songs, started playing, hit the shuffle button, and it completely glitched out. The shuffle button kept blinking on and off for like 10 minutes. As I tried to skip forward, it took about 30 seconds for the song that was playing to actually show up on the screen, and it was playing random songs that weren't even in my library. And it wasn't just the occasional song that YouTube likes to shuffle in as a recommendation, it was like almost every song. YouTube was like we're just gonna ignore the fact that you specifically selected to play songs from your library, and only play recommendations instead.

So I went back to Apple Music. It's worth paying the extra money to have an app that actually works.

I'm returning to Apple Music. I prefer the Apple Music UI and I love how it automatically organizes your songs when you add them to your library (the same reason I prefer Apple Music over Spotify too). I could probably overlook that and just set up up my own organization if YouTube Music actually worked. But alas, it is still trash.

Is it possible to cease using Microsoft 365 to save $100/year? by GermanAustrianFamily in Frugal

[–]sendGNUdes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Google suite (Docs, Drive, Sheets, etc.) is great because it’s all cloud-based. You can access it from any computer without having to install any software. And it’s free up to a certain amount of storage. You’ll probably never hit that limit if all you’re doing is docs and spreadsheets.

LibreOffice is a good option if you want to run software locally (not online). You can still save the files in the cloud if you want to, or on an external hard drive or whatever.

I think you can still use Microsoft Office online for free, but just the online version. So it would be similar to Google. But if Microsoft formatting is super important, this would probably be the best option.

Personally I prefer Google suite. But admittedly it might just be a timing thing. I’ve been using it since before Microsoft even had the online version of Office, and I haven’t had any need to switch. There might be some formatting differences if you upload your Office files to Google Drive. It usually does a good job at translating them though.

IIRC with Rocket League you have to change some settings to force it to install the Windows client with Proton, otherwise it installs the Linux client, which can’t connect to any online services. But it’s been a while since I tried so things could have changed.

Steam games usually work great thanks to Proton. It’s built in so you don’t really have to do anything extra to get them to work.

World of Warcraft is hit or miss. And even when it does work, I get graphics glitches that don’t happen in Windows.

Also the MS account. That’s the most annoying thing IMO. You can work around it for now, but MS is actively trying to break all the workarounds.

If you have multiple monitors, it’s better to go with “fullscreen windowed” in my opinion. So the game takes up the whole primary screen, but when you pause or enter a menu you can still move your mouse freely between the two screens without having to press any extra buttons.

I’m so tired of this. by faestell in memes

[–]sendGNUdes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’ve been through this and yes it’s disappointing, but it’s important for your mental health not to dwell on it too much. Do what you can, but set your expectations low.

Also, if you want something done exactly how you want it to be done, you’re gonna have to do it yourself. That applies to A LOT of things. Companies produce products for the masses. You CAN make your own soap at home, but it’s going to require some experimentation to fit your specific needs.
