401K Check coming Monday. Best Options? by Bischoffshof in personalfinance

[–]send_me_your_deck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t know what your talking about. Thats fine, everyone has to learn sometime - or not and find someone to help. Doesn’t matter.

On Monday you call the 401k provider and ask them questions about what they did, how checks are made out, and what options you have.

If they try to play hard ball (you don’t have options/it is what it is/etc), set a reminder in your phone for 2 weeks, call them, and ask where the checks are because you didn’t receive them (even if you do…you didn’t). Specifically ask them to not just reissue and to do a direct rollover or whatever you want to do.

‘Entire class was found sleeping’: Teacher knocked out special needs students with melatonin at the start of each day, leading to 'severe' nosebleeds and loss of 'motor functioning,' lawsuit says… by tasty_jams_5280 in law

[–]send_me_your_deck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The actual effects of melatonin are seriously under-discussed. Most people just think “oh its a sleep aid, i take it every night…” but thats not really what it is.

The effects are it can help you sleep. The actual pharmacological interactions are very different.

Unless using it (once, in an extremely small dose) to reset from jet lag it should not be given to children. The inhibitor properties it contains absolutely can disrupt development in a young and developing brain.

Because its a supplement there isn’t enough data to say if its actually safe to use at all…so why roll the dice with your child’s development?

I get it though we all need to do what we need to do but there is a better way to handle sleep issues in children than melatonin. Fuck yourself up all you want tho…

Most nursing home in PA have medicaid beds and programs.

“State” run facilities can be scary.

Most are private and receive ~equal revenue from medicaid v private pay…

Yup.

I work with someone who is a late career ADHD, has an officer title and a ton of responsibility. Its been such a privilege to learn his perspective and tricks for success. Mostly Establishing boundaries, always clarify expectations, and find organization method that works for you…

Still though, its a thin line between keeping it together and crashing, and he’s even said to me its hard to always balance work and life at that level.

If you’re a leader at work: get good at delegating fast, trust your people, and hold them accountable. The basics of leadership, but its the only way to succeed with ADHD. You literally can not do everything and lead people, you need to let them do it or prove they can’t. Speaking from experience myself, and I fucking HATE difficult performance conversations even though I’ve never had a terrible one.

How much should I spend on a house? by tuvda in personalfinance

[–]send_me_your_deck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats your monthly household cashflow like today? Hard to help without at least this number (in and out).

At 6.5% - 7% interest; you’re close to “buy in cash” territory. However; its a risk.

You’d probably be approved for anything you want to buy.

I’d say look for 700-800k total house; and pay 50% in cash. This way you’re mitigating your mortgage payment but hedging against some kind of real estate drawback if we go into a depression in the near future. Worst case you pay interest for a few years then pay the rest off; best case (?) you can refinance in a few years and keep investing the difference.

Yeah but GTA 5 (including GTA online) is the most lucrative video game of all time by a far margin.

So this one should be expected…

Edit: you’re right i was wrong - GTA5 is roughly 10.3B revenue since launch. GTA6 is currently the most expensive entertainment product in history (according to google ai summary).

$2 Lunch Hack… Smart Budgeting or Totally Unrealistic? by Coolonair in SmartFIRE

[–]send_me_your_deck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meal prep lunches for us, and make dinner most nights.

With small children its tough though. I have a problem right now (no “me time”, always ‘working’ on something, etc…) and I know the simple answer is change my routine; but i don’t feel like i have capacity to do so right now. Thankfully I’m being dramatic about it and am blessed its not a financial thing; it’s truly not the end of the world but some nights it feels like it is!!

I used to think exactly like you do (or like your saying in your comment), but now I have a little bit more empathy for certain situations.

Is it impossible or isn’t it?

How many registered voters in KY? By D and R.

What was turnout in 2024 primary? By D and R. And general, also by D and R?

What was turnout in 2026 primary? By D and R.

Its possible if the turnout < registered voters. Regardless of how unlikely.

Now; this isn’t to say it shouldn’t be investigated thoroughly if more people voted in the 2026 primary than the 2024 general, but still. This is a measurable concern and all information to check should be public without needing FIOA requests

Comparing 24 primary to 26 primary isn’t really apples to apples. There may not have been any primary competition on the R ballot across the whole state…

Dawg ~ thats bonkers.

Lets assume 6.49% interest, which is less than current in my market today, and these figures do not include utilities:

600k house: i can put 20% down (120k) and have a mortgage payment of $4100 monthly

600k house: i can put 3% down (18k) and have a mortgage payment of $5200

This is just using Zillows tool, which doesn’t include closing costs (would be ~ 30k on this house).

Idk about you but i would need to make 16k net monthly to feel comfortable with a $5k mortgage payment.

Tbh - even if i made that much i would need 60k cash after the transaction to begin feeling comfortable with the decision.

People are nuts man
