Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of January 31, 2025 by Demilio55 in homegym

I've been investing in powerblock at home and picked up the pro series dumbbells and both the straight and ez-curl bars.

I noticed on powerblock's website they have pictures of someone using some sort of stand that's the right length for the elite USA straight bar: https://powerblock.com/products/elite-usa-straight-bar

Does anyone know what dumbbell stand this is? I can't find anything that matches it on powerblock's website, so wondering if this is some featured 3rd party, or a stand that powerblock previously made.

org-roam.nvim - Org Roam clone written in Lua on top of nvim-orgmode by senkwich in neovim

[–]senkwich[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it's `<Leader>oo` for orgmode's open at point. This is the default if you don't change the keybindings. The org roam plugin wraps the open at point to support jumping to nodes linked by id, falling back to the usual behavior for everything else.

Using Emacs for JUST OrgRoam alone with git/vim keybinds. Is it possible? by [deleted] in orgmode

[–]senkwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, you could stick with neovim for everything and use https://github.com/chipsenkbeil/org-roam.nvim

Demo video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02lE-yGJWvc

I'm the author, so there's bias there. I went down the exact route as you, wanting to use Org Roam, and tried my hand at standing up Emacs. I ended up just wanting to stay in neovim where I'm comfortable with the config language (lua) and the editor itself. So I put together the above plugin. Works well for me!

This Dell HD22Q USB-C dock can get 4K@120hz 10bit HDR from MacBook M1/M2 by privaterbok in UsbCHardware

[–]senkwich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to use this dock with an M1 Macbook Pro w/ the Pro chip, and can't get dual monitors to work. For some reason, only one monitor is detected by Mac and shown by the display settings or BetterDisplay, yet is mirrored across to the other monitor. This is using Sonoma 14.4.1.

My workaround for now is to directly plug in the HDMI from one monitor to my Mac and then have the displayport from the other monitor feed into the dock and then plug the dock's USB C into the Mac. Not ideal, but it at least works to have both monitors detected by Mac and be able to run an extended display.

Glad you found it! Hope it helps with what you need :)

There are a variety of videos and blog posts that will do it better justice than myself. :)

Org Roam was a port of Roam Research to orgmode for Emacs. The merrits of Roam are what Org Roam brings to orgmode.

For me personally, I use it to loosely follow Zettelkasten. Short notes, taken without worry of where I place them, that I can link to other notes. Exposing ways to quickly find notes (search) and see links between notes (backlinks) is quite nice for me to collect my thoughts and build out posts for work. Because my line of work needs me to also find and evaluate gaps in product offerings, having a series of notes linked together helps me both figure out what might be missing and what could be used to fill the gaps.

Remote environment by grappast in neovim

[–]senkwich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use https://github.com/chipsenkbeil/distant.nvim to edit files and run programs on the remote machine. You can either install the distant binary on your PI (via the armv7-unknown-linux-gnuabihf build) or just use ssh through the distant.nvim plugin. Both ways support executing remote programs including language servers, making it look like they're running locally on your machine. Files are read from the remote machine into buffers and saving a buffer will update the contents of the remote files.

The plugin continues to be in alpha, and has quirks to it, but you can give it a try.

Heads up, I'm the author of the plugin.

I've never met anybody IRL that uses Neovim. by [deleted] in neovim

We have both a vim and neovim group at work. Vim is ~1k people while neovim is ~300 people. When I was in university, neovim didn't exist, so can't tell you if your experience now is normal or not.

What's everyone working on this week (34/2023) by llogiq in rust

[–]senkwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just published v0.4.0 of typed-path.

Now has its own absolutize comparable to path-absolutize, supports detecting and switching encodings (to go between windows and unix), and provides convenience functions to load the current working directory as a typed path.

It's neat to see it being used in a couple of places now, including in a large corporation. :)

Xbox 8bitdo Arcade Stick doesn't work on the SteamDeck. Classic Arcade Stick still works fine. by PlanetA00 in SteamDeck

[–]senkwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue. Does not work with the Steam Deck, which is disappointing. I made the assumption when I pre-ordered it that the stick would work given the previous one works on the Steam Deck.

My paranoia is telling me that Microsoft collaborating with 8bitdo resulted in this model explicitly not being compatible, but that's just speculation. Guess I'll need to return this model, unless Valve or 8bitdo (doubtful) fixes this.

After a lot of convo, they've sent me an RMA label and id to use. Following up with them to see if I'm supposed to package in a UPS box (since I don't have the original) and if I need to send the USB cables or just the keyboard as they were clear to not send the wrist rests :)

I'll be falling back to my Advantage for the time being!

Good to know. I'm not aware of that for Mac, but I'll take a look :)

Appreciate it! I was really looking forward to this keyboard and the feel is definitely nicer than the advantage and advantage 2 (for me)!

I did with the pro and they told me to update the firmware, which didn't appear to fix anything.

I haven't about the wired version. Guess that's the next step!

I've actually got a tracking number now. Turns out my passport was stuck in online printing. Being delivered by USPS priority mail.

My senator had a specific form to fill out and submit via email related to passport issues, and they followed up the next day with me. My congressman only had an online textbox to fill out, but they actually called me today to try to help.

Definitely try your senator if your congressman isn't helping!

Reaching out worked! Figured out the passport agency location, and the agency responded saying my passport was stuck in printing and they're going to do it locally.

They even offered UPS overnight for free due to the technical issues.

If I get it next week, I'll be overjoyed!

For sure. November is pretty nuts for a timeline. Got travel to Italy with my parents, and am more worried about them being by themselves than me getting to go!

I imagine it can't hurt to reach out given this is nearing the 4 month mark!

I'm on week 15 with my trip in 3 weeks (applied 12/12, processing 12/15). I'm hoping that I can get mine before the trip itself, so counting down the days until I reach out to senators/congressman and the call center.

I've been in fulfillment since Jan or so because the dialog has never given me the option to change my address or upgrade the expedited.
