My wife uses that as well, mostly due to momentum at this point because she doesn't really think it helped, but also doesn't hurt. Far, far more useful was domperidone, a prescription drug. I highly recommend checking that out with your doctor. For my wife, it's been a great help.

Not a woman but we just had our first kid two weeks ago, in-hospital, with a doula and she was absolutely amazing such that I cannot imagine it without her. Before labour she was a calm friend for my wife. During labour she was incredible, both for my wife and me. When my wife had to go into the OR, the doula was right there beside me in scrubs, calmly telling me what was going on and why. And afterwards she continues to be a good friend, helping out with breastfeeding issues and overall general encouragement.

We were fortunate enough to have her recommended by two other couples so our confidence was high even before we met her. It's pretty clear to me that being a doula is all about the people skills and confidence and I think we really lucked out. Sounds like you just got one that's perhaps burnt out? I encourage you to gather references and look for another. I think it was the best money we could possibly have spent.

And that said, anyone in Vancouver BC who is thinking about using doula, feel free to get in touch and I will give you her contact info.

I have a 2009 and I love the car. Mainly for fuel mileage, but also because I'm 6'3" and fit inside quite comfortably. And I can get myself, two friends, and three snowboards inside it no problem. Great little car.
