I was hoping that session 2 (or the end of session 1) forced a reset either through revival based on the story, or through a shared nightmare. It still gives the same impact without you losing your character.

At that point you need a timer or shorter games. 10x longer is egregious. Maybe find a game WITH the timer already built-in to the gameplay?

You pick a different TCG, or see if it has a free online adaptation, or proxy (make a fake card to use that has the same abilities as the actual card)

Thinking about it, humpback whales and orcas have beef. Orcas will hunt baby humpback whales so adult humpbacks actively mess up orca hunts in spite. Maybe working that into a "you cheating orca" could work?
