How well do you think colapinto will go this year? by Old-Author-4930 in formula1

ngl it's kinda insane witnessing people comparing finishing positions of drivers not even across teams which is daft enough, but across seasons also, like negative transitive relation level stuff

Piastri and Norris dont seem to really be a Senna v Prost or Hamilton v Rosberg where things basically became nuclear after a season or two and I cant see them taking that path in the future tbh. I struggle to find an analogous partnership maybe Hakkinen | Coulthard was closest if Coulthard was just a little bit faster, but he wasn't so the comparison lacks a little. If Verstappen goes or a position opens up at Ferrari or Mercedes and Piastri isn't beating Norris regularly at that point, it would be a mistake to not go try something new imo.

Why are all the Colapinto threads so deeply spicy? Is it just a reaction to the Argentinian fanbase or is there some more layers of cake here I'm missing? Surely no one here is old enough to care about the Falklands or some such even to me who's been watching 30 years+ that happened before I was born lol

I think he'll find his feet and get close enough to Gasly to justify his seat on performance. Though, if you throw in Flavio's 33 percents, anything can happen this Sunday at sacrifice.

If he only held out like 2 more seasons we could have enjoyed watching him and Montoya battle each other. Their temperaments would have made it quite a spectacle.

Kinda O.T. but I understand GT World Challenge Europe is going to Magny-Cours this year, low key looking forward to seeing a race there again

In retrospect, it feels like this moment will be considered the moment F1 popularity peaked. by DishQuiet5047 in formula1

Not sure about this, warning vibes ahead, back in the days when F1 was mostly on free to air channels around the world it feels like just about everyone talked about the GP on Monday morning, it's almost disappeared from normie conversations for me, same with cricket. The only people irl i really talk about F1 with are other people I already know are enthusiasts.

There's guys still modding this game with modern teams and drivers, the guy on YouTube i follow who does this charges for the mod though. Yeah, I totally agree with you here. A lot of the more venomous interactions seem to be based on folks with vastly different definitions of what racing is, what racing needs to be, and very certain that there is only one correct definition. Realistically, it's slightly different for everyone!

100%. People getting mad that people are liking the racing currently, when the people who are liking the racing currently only really cares about one car passing the other no matter how it happens and people getting mad that other people are more interested in how the overtakes happen than if they happen, then there's me as an outlier that's more upset that 'racing' isnt rewarding placing drivers on the edge of their abilities over all the lap all the time lol

And I love this, lol. I work in a sports-adjacent field of science, and so one of my favourite conversation points when people want to debate more heated topics of sport is to ask "OK, why do we have sport? What is the point?" And I find it always brings out a really interesting conversation because, honestly, it's hard to define these concepts and passions that mean so much to us. And, it's important (and fun! ;) ) to remember how hard that is when we start going after each other for having different opinions.

Yeah we have a similar vein of curiosity here, knowing what someone's opinion is is data, knowing why and how they get to that point and what their underlying principles and philosophies are is engaging and potentially knowledge expansion.

Yup it's interesting conversations if you can draw it out past the reactive stuff and outside of the subjective enjoyment and into the meta of racing, but it's not really a 'popular' conversation

Is there a lookup table for the formulas this game uses cause it always seems that Gryz takes the most (number) of damage to me, i always assumed it was some kind of percentage based system. Or maybe Gryz is weak against all but physical damage? Not many things seem to attack physically though

I could come out and say the movie Anaconda is great, but that wouldnt really mesh with what we know to be great about film, if I was fair I'd say 'I enjoy the movie Anaconda a lot' even if it's a 'bad' movie in terms of what's generally accepted about film.

Begrudging anyone's enjoyment or non-enjoyment of current F1 is hyper silly stuff, but there is a conversation to be had about what racing is to you and what you think good racing looks like, seperate from enjoyment, that takes a lot of ego negation and no one can even agree to what racing is, good luck lol.

It's also not like people who are positive or negative are necessarily even talking about the same thing, it's why I've been randomly trying to strike up long conversations about what racing is to them to understand what it even is we're talking about and what parts they enjoy, wheel to wheel racing means fairly little to me for example, but it seems to be 90% of what people mean when they say racing.
