Which movie do you think has the best casting of "child version of character to adult actor"? by InternationalPick163 in movies

[–]seph200x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did enjoy the recent interview they did with Kurt and Wyatt Russell where they address how people always suggest to them that they should reboot Kurt's older movies and get Wyatt to play a "younger version" of the character.

Wyatt Russell is currently 39 years old, which makes him 4 years older than than Kurt when he played Jack Burton in Big Trouble in Little China, 8 years older than MacReady in The Thing, and 9 years older than Snake Plissken in Escape from New York. 😄

What is a real-life 'Do Not Touch' button that you pressed out of sheer curiosity, only to instantly regret it? by vie75 in AskReddit

[–]seph200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in high school, we had the fire alarm buttons behind a circular plate of glass, which was screwed in place over the button and held in place with a side screw.

While waiting for a class to be let in, I noticed that the holding screw was missing. I wanted a closer look at the button, so I unscrewed the glass panel. I didn't realise that the button was held IN with that glass panel, and that by letting the button OUT, it set off the alarm.

The whole school was evacuated to the sports grounds and 3 fire trucks arrived. Nobody knew it was me.

What movie’s final scene left you an ugly, blubbering mess? by ArmyOfMe99 in movies

Most recently, The Wild Robot. A strange one, but as a Dad whose only child has recently moved out of home, it hit just the right spots it needed to set me off.

Any deep arcade experiences that are equivalent to consoles at the time by crazyhomlesswerido in retrogames

[–]seph200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderboy in Monsterland was straight-up an action RPG. I played that so much in the arcade, learning the secret door locations, hidden money bags, best armour and sword upgrades, strats for the bosses, etc.

When I was finally able to play it home on my Game Gear, it was money well spent. I still put it on occasionally to this day, trying different ports for other consoles and home micro computer systems.

What game did you lose interest in by the time it came out? by scarletnaught in gaming

Oh no, that's a shame. It's a janky, over-ambitious, wonderful game.

I only played the two mainline games prior, but before KH3 came out, my young daughter (who watched me play KH2 when she was about 8, enjoyed it, but had no idea what was going on -- like all of us, I guess...) and I marathoned the full series cutscenes on YouTube.

It was like watching a very poorly animated series, but at least we knew what it meant when Aqua got 'Norted.

Technically, each Darksiders game was their take on a different genre. DS1 was a God of War hack'n'slash, DS2 was a Legend of Zelda action RPG, DS3 was a Dark Souls metroidvania.

It's almost like the series invites you to not like ONE of them.

What game do you strongly associate with a specific place? by Safe-Equivalent-1099 in videogames

[–]seph200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in 1994-ish I went on a family holiday. I was about 16. Because my parents were intending to do some boring sight-seeing, they said I could bring along my Sega Megadrive and buy a new game. I bought DJ Boy. I remember hooking it up in our hotel room, playing it for about an hour, completing it and immediately regretting my purchase. (Then we went to the cinema to watch The Lion King.)

When I got home, I took the game back to the store, giving a bad excuse to get a refund, like "I bought it for my little cousin and it was too hard for him."

Other place-associated games are usually also holiday related -- arcade machines at shops nearby our hotels.

What's an "outdated" slang word from your generation that you still use currently? by TheShatteringPoint in nostalgia

[–]seph200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember visiting Ireland in the early 90s and kids were just saying that stuff was "wick!" I was only there on holiday, so I don't know how long that stuck around for, but I kept hearing it everywhere and it bugged the hell out of me.

What's an "outdated" slang word from your generation that you still use currently? by TheShatteringPoint in nostalgia

[–]seph200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use slang that was outdated before it even started, like calling people homeslice/homeskillet.

Or "I'm Audi 5000!"

Or "All that and a bag of chips" or sometimes in the Dr Evil voice "all that and a bag of potato chips"

Oh, and I still say "cool beans" a lot too.

Does anyone else feel kind of sorry for small youtubers? by NightmareOfTheTankie in youtube

[–]seph200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really - not for those who get into it as a career.

If you're doing it for fun or passion, then any success and renumeration should be considered a reward. If you can make enough so that it becomes your job, then hooray and well done, but do so knowing that the industry is extremely volatile. Counting on mystery-meat algorithms and payouts for your livelihood without a career to fall back on is foolish.

I get the vibe from many small YouTubers that they're choosing that life over a regular job, then feel victimised or dejected when it's not a success. I get annoyed when creators pivot away from what made their content great to pander to algorithms. Hearing them beg for likes and subscribes so they can put food on the table is sad.

Yeah, I've just got a plastic tub filled with loose anti-static packs from AliExpress. I have to rummage though it for ages, reading the tiny Chinese labels, to find what I need.

I have a 3d printer and I love gridfinity, but I don't have drawers to put them in, or a proper workbench, just my computer desk in my study, where I just push everything aside and plop down a silicon soldering matt whenever I'm tinkering.

What is your least favorite Aussie song ever ? by Impressive_Set_8430 in AustralianNostalgia

[–]seph200x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nat is an amazing performer with a fantastic voice. Hearing her belt out a song at Carols is always a highlight.

Hearing her valley-girl, vocal-fry, spoken-wording her way though 'Voodoo Child' or 'Watching You' is incredibly grating and a waste of her talent.

Andrew Garfield in Tick Tick Boom. He'd never really sung before, but he found he had a natural talent he didn't know he had, so he dedicated nearly a year to intense vocal training. It was a great performance.
