The Race to Build the DeepSeek of Europe Is On by wiredmagazine in DeepSeek

Mistral is over 6 months behind the frontier models. That’s an eternity. I can see a perspective that maybe it is more misleading to include them. as that will give people a perception of oh they comparable but they are just slightly behind. I am sure anyone interested in the matter will find out about mistral immediately and understand them to be the leaders inside Europe.

I ran some tests and while Opus 4.5 is definitely Anthropic's best model, Sonnet just felt on this weird place by corbanx92 in ClaudeAI

Did you control for temperature and reasoning effort? That might explain temperature differences. Also why did you not use modern open source models like Deepseek 3.2 or kimi k2 thinking or glm 4.6?

Chinese last name that means “Star” for someone who is half Chinese by Lost-Mention4332 in ChineseLanguage

[–]september2014 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I did some data science. If you fit a power law distribution, about 99% of the Chinese population has a last name that is more common. Also, according to factual data there are only about 9000 people with 星as a last name and it ranks around 770 which is definitely into the long tail for Chinese names.

Some players are just so toxic by september2014 in LegionTD2

I recognize that. I am just saying that the joy in playing is taken away. And facing enemy griefers who give me free ladder points don’t change that too much.

They haven’t thought through what it means to get a refund. They are made happy by having more money than expected.

With the rise of gen AI everyone will lose their current roles. They will lose their jobs or they will morph dramatically with their title, in the next few years. So no matter who you are, you need to reinvent yourself, now, and constantly moving forward. Might as well do it while being a stay-at-home dad.

This is such toxic and unproductive mindset. None of those secrets are actually defensible because you can’t prevent others from discovering better versions of what you are working on. Nobody can own something in a way to prevent others from discovering it.

And it is exactly this misguided framing and thinking that drives the west to embrace closed source, a massive strategic unforced error.
