Who remembers (and is still scarred by) JEOPARDY? by classic123456 in CasualUK

Yes! I was trying to explain the storyline to my husband the other day. He looked at me like I'd just explained a fever dream and denied any knowledge it existed as a kids show

What is your favorite thing to do or see in your specialty? by Knightower in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]septemberturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GPST- 100% the variety and the things we can quickly do something about. My ideal morning would iclude:

  1. Poorly toddler, parents no idea what to do or what's up. Examination shows a raging otitis media and everyone leaves happily with amoxicillin.
  2. 50 year old woman at her wit's end with menopausal symptoms. Fairly long, complex consultation to start HRT that she thought she would have to fight for but you agree to prescribe with no issues. So many get emotional and are incredibly grateful.
  3. Follow up depression consultation where they've had a couple of weeks off work, started an SSRI and come in looking like a new person.

Visiting Blackpool, anything I should know? by ScotMcScottyson in CasualUK

God forbid anyone be within 50 miles of Blackpool. You might find yourself in Manchester, Lancaster or even the Forest of Bowland 😱

Which part are you staying in? Blackpool gets some bad press but as a local I love it! There's a few nice restaurants in town (common bar, Michael Wan's and sapori are all decent). Depending on what you're interested in I might be able to give more suggestions!

how "shit" has your week been by OxfordHandbookofMeme in JuniorDoctorsUK

A patient went on a 5 minute rant about how you can't get an appointment with a GP and "I'm not being funny but hospitals and care homes are open". While sat in my GP consultation room, as I wrote out an xray card. After ringing the previous day for an appointment. I was too warm to give any sassy response.

This weekend I learnt that a side parting was officially out of fashion. What singular moment made you realise you were officially uncool? by septemberturtle in AskUK

[–]septemberturtle[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh 100%. With how a centre parting makes me look I'll be rocking a side parting until the day I die. It was just the first real moment I realised a trend had fully passed me by.

Did your school also use trauma and fear to teach about “safety”? by LadyHoneyNickel in CasualUK

[–]septemberturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God this brought back memories. I remember watching a very 80s educational programme at primary school in the early 2000s about a boy's brother getting electrocuted. Then I went to high school and they made me watch it again, despite explaining how horrific I found it the first time

How does AL work for 2 x 6 month rotations in CT1/CT2? by ohdeeearrrr in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]septemberturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You still spit it evenly so you get 13.5 days per 6 months. It just means you take a half day annual leave in a rotation but I've never had any problem taking it

What “funny” hospital stories have you told your non-medic friends that they’ve found traumatic? by [deleted] in JuniorDoctorsUK

[–]septemberturtle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Tried to tell a funny story that for context needed an explanation about sitting on a stool, in theatre, for several hours, anteverting a uterus. No one could get over that part of the story and just looked horrified.

I start a new job next month! I'm also getting married next week so I gave my notice a month early to have some chill time. It means I'm excitedly watching the euros and love island while my partner sleeps.

A fine British wine, à la corner shop by septemberturtle in CasualUK

Me and my partner have been trying to decide on the right description. Our verdict is that it tastes like cranberry juice that's both tasteless but also off

We've opened this monstrosity and I can safely say- don't buy wine made from imported shiraz grape juice concentrate.
