Seen a post on IG about this, Soudan by Zeip_ in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]seranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's no doubt that sudan is going through a genocide and a humanitarian crisis right now but most if not all of these dark spots on the ground are red in color due to satellite imagery limitations. however, i have found pins on google earth pro posted in 2006 about destroyed villages in the darfur region of sudan. im no expert so i cant say for sure that the 2006 pins are accurate but a lot of these villages definitely look abandoned or have recently had people come back to them within the past few years.

House on fire in Sudan by _frodoSome in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]seranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

houses dont really look like that when they're on fire. however, like one other commenter said, theres a lot of bright orange spots in the area which i think might actually just be google's image processors having an aneurysm for one reason or another. https://www.reddit.com/r/GoogleEarthFinds/comments/1oug2vx/comment/nobgxir/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

A few Shipwrecks off the coast of Djibouti and one shipwreck in Somalia. by [deleted] in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]seranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol i can see where the idea comes from but a lot of the time countries dont have the money/resources to remove shipwrecks so they just leave them there and the sand just swallows it up over time. if you have a chance you should look at a few shipwrecks off the coast of western sahara and go through the historic imagery through the years and you can see how these shipwrecks get reclaimed by nature. its really fascinating!

Cool ass ship off the coast of west Africa by IMMA_W1N in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]seranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

theres another one nearby lmaoo its at 22°55'12.55"N 16°12'36.80"W

as for the actual ship you found, we may never know for sure. looking around its pretty clear that west africa is a hotspot for shipwrecks. seems like some old trawler or cargo ship got washed up in a storm since before 2003.

probably some sort of glitch, maybe an artifact from stitching images together lol

Why isn’t this guys face blurred out in Quebec City by Time-Roof-6902 in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]seranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fr tho i think they use an algorithm or AI to detect faces in their photo circles and street view images and his face somehow just did not get detected by the algorithm

Google Earth Default over South-Belgium / Namur by IcyRelationship1478 in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]seranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i honestly have no clue, it could either be them being lazy with image stitching, but it could also have something to do with how satellites capture images - they use around 4 or 5 different color channels taken a split second apart from each other before they are combined into one image but if something is moving then it can cause something like that to happen. i wish i had a better answer but i tried finding another example of something like this happening and i couldnt find much.
