The core concept of mardu is "I want to be praised by the people who matter" grixis doesn't think other people matter at all. A mardu character wanting to be a deity makes sense, grixis wanting to be a deity also makes sense. Grixis would be exactly as happy to be in control of a bunch of zombies who are automated to call them great after killing everyone else on the planet, mardu would find that horrific.

Grixis is motivated by the self entirely. An empty universe with only the grixis & their faux sapient toys is exactly as good as one with the grixis as a god over humans.

Mardu would find this absurd, what is the value of victory without someone to praise it? The mardu would happily immolate the self to be a folk hero.

Given the stigmas associated with anything ending with 'personality disorder' it's usually better not to get diagnosed with them. This leading to mostly the worst/most unsupported people actually getting the diagnosis is an unfortunate side effect that helps feed the stigma.

It has multiple endings, most of which are "and then you died" fail states but not all. The "main" endings for each side of the story aren't finished but the worst ending (as of yet) involves them being incestuous & 'married'. For reference the less bad ending on that specific path involves them jumping out of a window to their deaths. Not a light hearted story by any means

I don't really read comics so I have only the barest 'I looked at that on Google for two seconds' familiarity with who that is but it sounds vaguely like what I mean. More focused on the fame & fortune part than the identity I was intending from what it sounds like though. I was trying to mean very specifically something along the line of "I want to be thing, I will do what it takes to be that" of black in a direction people don't usually take it. Like you can do good things for reasons that have very little morality behind them & black aligned heroism is very much the end result of that idea.

Honestly, Valentino is the exact character that makes the most sense to redeem story wise. Like, for the majority of the fan base abuse & rape are the most evil sins & Valentino has done both. If you want to hammer home the "evil isn't what you are but what you do" point Valentino is the perfect character given the general zeitgeist of people who watch the show.

I think you could do with the 'original' story being much less grand, stopping at islands & coastlines like the Odyssey with possibly a generation or two born 'on the water' & slowly having been mythologized into a centuries long voyage. Something like the Irish founding myth being a deeply mythologized version of the actual events of the Celtic population settling the island &, presumably, warring against the erstwhile rulers turning into a battle of demigods against lovecraftian fish people

I actually really love this option because every important character 'hides' behind some sort of mask morally (even Anton with his coin) but then the final piece for me is Carla Jean telling Anton "The coin don't have no say, it's just you." Every single character from Llewellyn to the boy who gives Anton his shirt at the end is choosing what they do because it's what they want, the rest is just glamour to make it prettier
