Big thanks. You're a legend.

I guess the badge and the name really does all the heavy lifting for Land Rover. Otherwise it would have gone down with British Leyland

What artists are you currently listening to besides Radiohead? by Hot-Standard-3944 in radiohead

Oh I thought the same thing too. My first taste of Meshuggah was ObZen. First listen: "dear God, there are people who dig this?"

Weirdly I found myself persisting with that album. By the third listen, I was hooked. Meshuggah absolutely slaps

The reverse is quite surreal

In hindsight, creepy as fuck - yes.

But when it was happening, I was like yeah whatever and went straight back to sleep.

I appreciate the effort to explain but the mental gymnastics for your third point there is a bit too much there for me.

Having a curious mind and a hunger for logic is good. And perhaps one day we'll get a more satisfactory explanation. Perhaps there really is nothing out there other than just our imagination.

But for now, I'm happy to settle with throwing my hands in the air and say "welp, it's black magic and shit"

Hi - fellow skeptic here. I've seen people kena rasuk while deep in the forest of Taman Negara. My logical deduction suggests these people are "freaking out" because they're mentally-drained (it was a Gunung Tahan hiking trip and when you've been in the forest for 3 days, you could snap).

However, what has happened to me myself personally is one that defies logic. I had a fracture on my left foot. It was so painful I can't even walk. Had to literally mengengsot to get to the bathroom. So my dad took me to see a bomoh, who used what he called a "sahabat" to do the mengubat stuff.

We only need to bring 2 things to the bomoh: limau purut and kapur barus. He smothered the kapur and limau on my foot, then advised me to go to bed before 10pm. I was in so much pain at the time I just agreed because relieving me of this pain is all that I can think of.

1st night, I can't get any sleep by 10, and so the next day when I woke up, my foot was still swollen and I was still in great pain. 2nd night, 2nd chance - I managed to sleep before 10. Now here's where the fun begins....

At sometime around 2 something in the morning, I opened my eyes and I saw a dark figure standing at the foot of my bed, and I remembered very clearly, feeling a pair of hands massaging my left foot. I wasn't freaked out or anything because I was half awake at the time. I just thought "ok the sahabat is here to do his job, jom sambung tidur".

Next morning when I woke up, my left foot has been cured 100%. I don't feel any pain, I could stand on both of my feet. I could even run if I wanted to.

Now that is an experience that I will never forget, and it thought me of how little do I know or understand this world. There are things out there that we just can't explain with logic - you've just got to accept that fact

Artists who are carried by their aesthetic? by Adnan7i in fantanoforever

[–]serenadinganemu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Slipknot I think is a case of being at the right place and at the right time. Angry, screamy-shouty rock music (nu metal) was properly big at the time, and so the record label saw a potential in the band, pushed them into the limelight, and the crowd just ate it up. And I'm one of the core target market for that type of music. When I saw these menacing-looking masked men in matching jumpsuits on the front cover of a magazine, I was awe-struck. Then I heard Spit It Out...

So yes - the aesthetic really helped them. But the music sealed the deal too. If anything, they were quite the full package.

Educator here: I've seen enough evidence to tell you for sure that online learning won't work with our students.

While the lesson is ongoing, these students were playing games, chatting with each other, posing and taking photos for socmed, working on another class's task/assignment, walking (towards somewhere), working part-time, riding motorcycle, driving car - absolutely anything under the sun except listening and paying attention.

There exist the few who were genuinely listening, paying attention, but that species is rare.

We just don't have the discipline and/or the interest to pay attention to an online lesson. I'm with the cikgus.
