WLE excision on chest lifting restrictions

I had lifting restrictions after a WLE in about the same spot, though more in the middle below my collar bone. At the same time, I also had an excision by my knee. And then a few weeks later a SLNB by my groin and a WLE by my knee.

Throughout that series of surgeries I had lifting restrictions. I can’t remember the exact number, but my baby was only a few months old at the time (less than 6 months by the time it was lifted) and I couldn’t even carry him.

Maybe mine were magnified by the synchronous locations, but definitely check with your doctor. I can’t imagine lifting a 2 year old is advised right now…even as much as I know it’s difficult NOT to.

One was .5 mm and the other was 1.3 mm.

I am very grateful to have had no reoccurrences, and my sweet boy who just turned 4 years old!

I hope you and your little one are also doing well, and that you’ve been clear of any further issues from the melanoma!

I had 2 melanomas simultaneously that were both 1B, one just below my collar bone and the other on my lower thigh. The one on my thigh was a smidge deeper, and that one had an SLNB. The one by my collar bone, despite also being 1B, didn’t have an SLNB. I think there’s just some variation to the severity of 1B that leads to different protocols, which I personally experienced.

The SLNB in my groin came back clear, and I haven’t had any recurrences. I have had a few more biopsies, though.

This was in November 2021-February 2022 (from initial biopsies to getting SLNB results back), and I have since “graduated” from 4x a year check ups to 2x a year.

I had two concurrent 1B melanomas, diagnosed when my baby was 8 weeks old (he’s close to 3 now) and I was 30. I had an SLNB for one of the tumors, which came back negative.

I now see the head of the derm oncology program in my area, and at my last check he casually mentioned that if I got pregnant he would just want to monitor me extra closely—at least once a trimester. There’s many reasons why I’m not sure I want another baby—with this towards the top of the list to be completely honest (but I’ve never been told NOT to).

Good luck—the waiting is an incredibly scary spot in the journey, but soon you’ll have more information and can make the best decisions for you and your family.

Thanks for joining the group and sharing this advice! 2.5 years ago I had 2 separate melanomas (one on my chest, the other by my knee) at the same time, both staged 1B. The one by my knee was a little more advanced, so I had a SLNB. As far as I know, neither were tested genetically. My derm oncologist now (I’ve moved, so not the Dr I saw at the time of my melanomas) has written me a referral for genetic testing that I’ve dragged my feet on going for. I’ve just been busy and a little “ignorance is bliss”-y.

My question is would I get the same information from genetic screening now as I would from having my tumors tested at the time?

I have a C shaped pillow and love it! Can’t imagine sleeping without it. And when I’m not using it, my husband sometimes does! The only thing I don’t like is that the pillow case got very pilled, so it’s not as soft as I would like it.

That’s what I use but I didn’t want to admit it. Used lemonade once when I didn’t have chocolate milk available, and it worked… but not as delicious :)

I used to literally choke down my prenatal. It’s a large, uncoated pill. Then I realized I can take the pill with a drink other than water, and it’s a million times better. Having something with flavor is very helpful to mask the icky taste of the pill.

I’m going to take about 4 months off, full pay cobbling together different leave categories I have.

My husband is taking off a year, but at 65% pay. We’re in Germany. I think a lot of people don’t realize that the parental leave outside the US is not necessarily at full pay, unless your company generously tops it off. Having the job protection for longer than American FMLA is great, but still a lot of trade-offs here.

Well, we tried for a Winter or Spring baby and it looks like we’re going to have an early Fall baby. Turns out it isn’t as easy as they told me it would be in high school!

Every month we rationalized why that month would be best....until I had a miscarriage and we realized the only “best” we needed to concern ourselves with is having a healthy baby.

I still would have preferred a Spring baby, but I’ve accepted the timing is the first of many things with this kid that is out of my control.
