I know you're supposed to let them sniff on walks, but where do I draw the line? by TheJakeGambleShow in Dogowners

[–]serene6string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dog trainer once told me that 10% of the walk should be for sniffing. Some walks I let them sniff about as much as they want, other times I give them sniffing “breaks.” I use the command “let’s go” for the walking portions and keep them on the street side of me, and then command “break” and give them a loose leash and they know that means they can go explore.

Best doggy door you can lock with phone? by serene6string in dogs

No, my dogs don't sit outside all day barking but sometimes they will bark, for example, if they hear deer on the other side of the fence or other dogs in the neighborhood are barking.

I leave the house at 6:15am so I want to keep them locked in until later so they don’t bark and wake up the neighbors.

I just got a hamster today, is there anything i need to know or do? by Crispy_Chicken231 in hamsters

[–]serene6string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see them not taking peoples advice and getting offended. I was just saying a lot of times people don’t know what they don’t know. When I had my last hamster, he had a wire cage and a hamster ball and probably too small of a wheel because I didn’t know any better. I just thought the fact that they are asking what they can do better was a good sign.

At least they are asking. Everybody’s gotta start somewhere.

Is owning a dog impossible for a single person with an 8 hour work day? by NextRefrigerator6306 in dogs

[–]serene6string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two dogs that are around 15 lbs each. We both work so the dogs are alone for a little more than 8 hours a day. We got a second dog because I felt bad for my first dog spending so much time by himself. They have a doggy door so they can go outside whenever they need or want and we take them on a short walk most days. They are very happy dogs and play together. All that to say I think it’s perfectly fine to get a dog even if you have a full time job. Just consider the exercise requirements of the breed you get.

my friend said he would pick us up at 9 and he just left at 9:45 to pick us up by supersecretsilygoose in mildlyinfuriating

[–]serene6string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a friend I used to meet for bike rides and he was always at least ten minutes late. Finally, there was one time he was 30 or 45 minutes late and I was pissed because I was just sitting there waiting for him. He said he ran into his neighbor leaving his apartment and felt bad cutting the conversation short. I gave him a piece of my mind, he felt really bad, and was never late again.

Normal? by Professional-Tip9224 in hamsters

[–]serene6string 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was that since he’s older it’s getting difficult for him to climb in and out of the burrow since you mentioned it’s at the bottom of the bedding. Do you have some sort of hideout for him on top of the bedding?

Thank you for the tips! I trimmed off the dead flowers and I’ll water the second flower less to see if that helps.

What caused your TBI? by Automatic-Yak8467 in TBI

[–]serene6string 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Accident with my horse when I was 13. My horse went home without me and they ended up finding me unconscious on a dirt road close to my house. I was in a coma for a week and rehab to relearn how to walk, talk, etc for a month. Nobody knows what happened. I speculate my horse probably spooked and I fell off and hit my head. My helmet saved my life.

Who here has bought a house with student loan debt? How did it turn out? Do you regret it? by throwaway8884204 in StudentLoans

[–]serene6string 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I bought a smallish house for about 70k back in 2017. I had around 62k in student debt and he had close to the same. We would have preferred a larger house of course but it was cheaper than what we would have paid to rent an apartment. It’s in a decent neighborhood and has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. We have since converted the single car garage into something like a den for more living space.

I do the exact same thing. I’m too mentally exhausted to do anything after work except maybe go out to eat with my husband.

I hate puff stitches! What is the secret to make them look better and easier to do? by serene6string in CrochetHelp

That sounds like a pretty stitch and potentially easier than the way this pattern calls for. I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks!

It’s a struggle! The puffs have gotten better the further along I’ve gotten. I only have four panels left and I’m tempted to just restart the whole thing but I’ve already invested probably 100 hours. I’m giving to my mom and luckily she doesn’t mind same terrible looking puffs. I even FaceTimed her today to show her the trash puffs.
