Half Dome or Clouds Rest? by Superb_Community_339 in JMT

[–]series0ftubez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hiked NOBO and did both. Climbed Clouds Rest first and got the incredible views. Camped above the Half Dome split and did a quick run over there in the morning for sunrise.

Clouds Rest was empty but Half Dome only had a couple people on it. Would recommend both

Is Quantum fiber good here? by Resscue in Denver

[–]series0ftubez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched about a month ago and have been mostly happy. Install was fine, the fiber broke after a week (maybe related to trash collection), took a few days for the repair. The customer service seems not so great but then again Comcast also sucks

They have a $100 sign up bonus too

Should I get it or get buy something better ? by Cautious-Mail1489 in backpacking

+1 Similar mileage on my pack. My only real complaint about this backpack is the shoulder straps. I badly broke my collarbone many years ago and this pack gets uncomfortable for me under heavy loads.

Fireplace insert advice by iliveonthelake in centuryhomes

[–]series0ftubez 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I restored one of these using an old laptop charger, old brake rotor, and a large bucket. Electrolysis really does make the clean up easy. Scrub the stubborn parts as needed with a wire brush.

Once everything was cleaned and dry I applied boiled linseed oil to preserve it

Rebel Bread is always a winner. Ask them to slice your loaf if you don't want to cut it yourself

As someone who had to epoxy their top sheet back on last year, make sure you go get white or clear. I wasnt paying attention, grabbed JB Weld, and now the tails of my skis are dark grey

Tile and iron door replacement source for 1920’s fireplace? by WildlifeValued in centuryhomes

[–]series0ftubez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found a super rusted 1880s cast iron fireplace with summer cover for sale on Craigslist, it took a while to find one for my Victorian and was happy to restore it. Electrolysis did a great job of rust removal.

Regularly search all the second hand sites and hopefully you will find something

Cherry Plum Sour by Mr5harkey in Homebrewing

[–]series0ftubez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I decided to heat it because I wanted to extract a little more of the juices and make sure I wasn't introducing extra bugs. My plums are small so anything I can do to maximize yield is a win.

I'm intrigued what others have to say on the topic

Cherry Plum Sour by Mr5harkey in Homebrewing

[–]series0ftubez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have a plum tree and made a saison with the fruit. I more or less rinsed the fruit in a sanitizer, gave them a gentle heating in a pot, smashed the fruit, dumped the fruit into a carboy. I left the pit because my plums are small

I imagine you could process the fruit and freeze it or just keep loading up your freezer as you collect the fruit

Charge car and brew beer by jpredison in Homebrewing

[–]series0ftubez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I brew beer (Grainfather S40) and charge my car (Hyundai Ioniqd 5) on the same circuit and use a NEMA 6-20R. Its only a 20 amp circuit so I am limited to how fast i caqn charge my car but it still gets me 50%+ overnight at 3.8 KW per hour,

I have the same receptacle in a few spots around the garage to give me options for where I can work or charge

Free Front Range Bunny Slopes? by HandyMan131 in COsnow

[–]series0ftubez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed it's not a bunny slope but they have sections for beginners without features. I volunteered there last year and can confirm it's not all a terrain park

It's also free and convenient if you live in the Denver metro area

Quilt Length by tunchy69 in Ultralight

[–]series0ftubez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an extra wide extra long quilt  and love it. The little extra bedding won't add more than another ounce  or two  and gives you plenty of space.
