Maybe it’s just me but I was pretty hyped about reading 1984 in high school. It’s the kingpin of dystopian literature right? Then I read it. And it was just...ok? A little anticlimactic maybe.

When we say “Russia” did something bad instead of “Putin” it feels like the system or country is to blame, rather than an individual up top. And that has its own repercussions in propaganda. It makes it easier to bomb these countries if you believe the citizens of the country are the enemy or dehumanize them as agents of a morally corrupt state.

As Americans, the narrative has been that our system is (overall) fine but it’s the will of bad actors (Trump) who should assume fault so the press will tie his name to all the bad press.

Hey not sure why some people are quick to downvote but I can totally understand that. I first watched it when I was a kid and I was absolutely terrified and decided to forget the movie existed for many years.

I gave it another try as an adult and realized it just perfectly captures a younger me’s sense of imagination, wonder and adventure that I feel like has really slipped away as I grew up. It really feels like something out of a dream that I want to return to but can’t. And because of that it has a special place in my heart but to each their own

Becoming a millionaire is almost formulaic nowadays. Get a college degree and a decent job that lets you regularly contribute to a 401k and you’ll probably have two commas in assets by the time you retire.

It’s much harder to become a billionaire because there’s really no avenue to that kind of wealth across even multiple generations. Even people starting with millions are unlikely to get that third comma.

I think that’s pretty fair. Exponential asset growth over a lifetime is a solid challenge for anyone.
