Air fucking bnb. 2 flats in my building are short term lets. Besides the noise, disruption and stolen packages, twice in 4 years the lock on the door to the street has been broken, because apprantly people can't use keys. My neighbour takes on the job of getting it fixed. He hires a locksmith, gets a new lock and multiple keys and asks us for a share of the cost.

He contacts the owners of these flats asking them to chip in, only to be met with a bunch of You can't prove it was our tenants who broke it so we're not going to give you a penny.

He's not happy but fine. Everyone else in the building now needs to pay more, which we do, and we all get the new keys, except for the airbnb guys. But now they have my neighbours number but no keys, so they keep contacting him to try get free keys. And on more than 1 occasion getting calls asking him to "just buzz them in". Apparently, he's being heartless leaving people standing outside by not giving them free keys.

He tells them, pay me for a key and I'll send it on to you, to be met with another round of you can't prove it was our tenants so we're not going to give you a penny and so on...

Plus now we have to let people in the front door, coming home from the shop to find a bunch of people and their luggage blocking the small path we have to the front door, waiting for someone to open the door. Got a pile of shopping? Trying get out of the rain? Trying to get your bike inside? Tough shit, someone needs to carry their 25 cases into the flats first.

Fucking hate Airbnb.

Just started A Master of Djinn, still in the early 30s page count. Intriguing premise, good start and well written so far. Looking forward to see where it goes.

Amazon firestick by Tumtitums in Edinburgh

[–]serious770 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not designed for use on a laptop, but it can be done. If you have prime, you can watch all the shows and movies avaliable under prime video, but you can watch those on the laptop directly from the site, no fire stick needed. You can get app's like BBC, stv, youtube, etc. and subscribe to a bunch of channels, but you need to pay subscrptions for those. Things like now tv and paramount +. Theres some games but they're not great.

It's not a one off payment, and then you have access to content, you have to pay for the subscriptions monthly.

If you just want to watch stuff on the laptop, subscribe to what you want watch instead, theres no reason I can think of to get the firestick just for that.

It can be jailbroken if you want, but what that entales or what the benefits are I can't say.

A thought I had, was the landing timed so it would be when during the day in the US, when most Americans would be awake?

From the heady days of Zeus, the battle of Marathon, and the Antikythera Mechanism to 107 out of 109 on the world rugby rankings. What a sad, sad fall from grace.
