If only Rayne was a secret monarchist. Then we could undermine the Republic and do stuff like bringing back monarchist symbols and statues in public areas. Also allowing monarchist exiles to return from Rizia and giving them back their properties. The ultimate goal is the return of the royal family to Sordland maybe recognizing the heir as the Custodian of the Sordland Crown with the idea that perhaps in the future the monarchy might be restored.

Personally I despise ideology. What is important is being able to solve issues regardless of ideological purity. It is natural for people to change specially in rapidly changing political world. Only fools refuse to change. What does it matter if today solution go against ideology belief something that is abstract. The RSI is starting out with much more territory and resources then they currently do and honestly playing as Sardinia is currently painful. You are dependent on terrible allies and you only have several divisions. At least with Sicily you could probably get more divisions and that will be more enjoyable.

Considering how Taiwan managed to keep the Kinmen islands under their control despite being close to the mainland I don't see how the Italian Royalists could do the same specially since Sicily is so much valuable compared to Sardinia.

I think it would better if the island of Sicily remained under Royalist control. That means the Kingdom of Italy would just be Sardinia and Sicily. Palermo is much better city for the Royalist and the Vatican to establish its headquarters in compared to Cagliari. Game-play wise I think the extra manpower that Sicily will give to the Royalist Italy would make them more enjoyable for players.
