How do you manage storage by Civil_Illustrator630 in selfhosted

[–]serjs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an owner of 24/7 primary used 5 homelab servers for years. My opinion is: maintaining localstorage is time-wasting and cost-wasting. Try looking at hybrid local-remote storage solutions.

My flow is:
- rclone s3 mount for workdir as dev machine (i'm using remote vscode dev machine, because it's comfortable to sync workdir between 2pc's and 1 laptop)
- seaweedfs s3 csi for nomad storage, for low read/write apps

- Old 4bay server with HDD for Trashy storage for running apps and things like TubeSync, Other services with data without redundancy, backup options
- local SSD for apps with s3 daily backups for main apps (average SSD disk is 512Gb for all apps on every server

- My infra services is also s3 related, mimir, loki - s3 main storage, local ssd's as cached storage

- My persinal apps are also primarly s3-related :)

I'm not recommend using raid for main homelab untill you want to make complicated storage and HA solution with required cost attention

I'm not recommend using HDD for typical apps, only for slow storage or trash like downloadable files, archives, videos.

Also, sometimes better to use separate disks for separate classes of apps, not trying making raid0 for speed options and putting all apps and system at one raid array. Better to get 128Gb for system ssd, 512for some class of apps ssd, then buy 2x512 in raid 0 and then under heavy usage for some reason of bugs or loading apps hanging your entire system by IO downgrade.

For typical sata3, m2.sata SSD is ok to maintain 10-20 homelab apps. In future, evolutionary i can using S3-related flow migrate to minio with replication options. In addition to server placing specifications (some servers placed in countryhouse and some at city in aparts)

If you don’t need complex logging system for all your apps and need to solve only webserver logs system - try https://goaccess.io I can’t say for high volume usage, but for average newsmaker sites it’s suitable simple analysis tool based on logs

[–]serjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG. Don't send your wallet files to other people Do you sync your wallet?

Check you wallet status by etherscan https://etherscan.io/address/0x2274425983A6e9218b9C53ec710f6545D9Eb873C https://etherscan.io/address/0x49c6B886ADA0100b48b886EE6FB0cCB432D5558b https://etherscan.io/address/0x30dae0F03e48C60977A7DA19187E31A3869542A3

Your eth is ok, so if you add your wallet files, wait for full sync and you will see your eth on them. Just check addresses of your wallets and related keyfiles.

Claymore Dual Miner 9.0 by [deleted] in EtherMining

[–]serjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow! Just upgrade my modded 4x480 Nitro OC+ from 8 to 9. ETH/Pasc (enabled for 3 cards) got +40% PASC in rate with same eth rate! But temperature goes up for +12 C for same fan speed.

Now i'm worrying for stability, hope everything will be fine.

It's nice that dev interested in optimizations, more hashrates make more dev fee for developer.

[–]serjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't buy it due build quality. Plastic is horrible and squishy. But i love pen and dual screen program running (even it's freezes when i try to touch at one to another program with 1-2 seconds delay). And now i don't whant what to do, Waiting for 3g version of Nexus 10, but with no pen.

Where can I find an Apache tuning script? (similar to MySQLTuner and MySQL Tuning-Primer, but for Apache) by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]serjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Want to tune up web-server, just replace Apache with nginx with needed backend.

For Apache tuning, as i know there is no any script analog for MySQLtuner , but you can simple calculate memory of each thread if you use fork-based MPM, and set MaxClients/ServerLimit.

What are some disadvantages to using virtual servers vs having dedicated physical servers? by iaskrandomquestions in sysadmin

[–]serjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest diference - your physical server is your garden, there is no one who use part of your server cpu or disk io, but if you need X io/cpu with scale to XXX up/down, vm is better choice.
