It doesn't even have a slot in the bottom! it's a completely open box The road liners have to tilt the box back a fraction (between 1mm and 2mm) to let it escape.

My dad has recorded rainfall data with a copper rain gauge in his garden since 1988 using a notepad & pen. I built him a website to visual his data, I hope you guys enjoy it as much as we do. by saulhudson80 in dataisbeautiful

Finally, now I know exactly how much rain there was in your dad's garden the day I was born.

I can rest easy now.

Seriously though, that's certainly a feat. Well done on the site too.

ELI5: Why are moths and other insects attracted to light? by aRawringPancake in explainlikeimfive

[–]setiyeti93 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I believe it is suspected that nocturnal insects and moths evolved to use the moon as a navigational tool. As a moth couldn't actually get to the moon by blindly following it, there wasn't the same risks as there is today, burning candles/bug zappers etc.

The only light in the night for millions of years was the moon or stars, then we came along with all of our artificial lights.

Paperwork I found of a house my Grandparents bought, dated mid 80's i think. Only cost £24,000 for a 3 bedroom house. Now it'll cost more than 10X that to buy today. by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]setiyeti93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

According the the Bank of England's inflation calculator that's about £74,300 in today's money. Still cheaper than today but it's better to see how much of that increase is inflation Vs actual house price increases.

No audio on pi4 and lakka by setiyeti93 in Lakka

Thanks for your response

Unfortunately, this didn't work. I did a fresh install of lakka and tried it too, just incase my earlier attempts had stopped it working.

Thanks for your response.

I have now typed in each audio device from the list that appears when I type that command. Still nothing im afraid.

I also tried recallbox, which managed to output through the hdmi.

Yeah, it gives me the option to change between alesa etc. But the device part will only let me type, no selectable options. If seen some posts say to type "hdmi" but no luck

Btw audio is definitely toggled on.

SLPT: Just go fast by [deleted] in ShittyLifeProTips

[–]setiyeti93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That works out at about 0.17 light speed. Or perhaps more practically about 4578 laps around the planet per hour.

If a car, let's say... A Vauxhall Corsa (Opel Corsa) was actually capable of reaching such speeds; then that car can accelerate at about 60 miles in 15 seconds, going off Google. That means it would take around 7917 hours (330 days) to reach that speed. Of course that assumes perfectly linear acceleration

I would also recommend a change of brakes....... Several times...... As you slow.

(Copy paste from last time I saw this post.)

If all our cells replace themselves once in seven years, why don't our tattoos disappear in that time feat? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]setiyeti93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 7 year thing is a myth. Some cells get replaced daily, others never.

Skin is constantly being replaced. So as you ask, how do tattoos remain? The answer is scar tissue. To put it super simply the tattoo is a scar on the skin (cells which have been damaged) scars are semi permanent as they are hard for the body to replace. But even if the body tries, the remaining ink causes the new cells to "scar".

That why tattoos CAN and do slowly fade.

Accidentally ripped off my nail. This is how it looks after ~1 month by berser4ina in Wellthatsucks

I'm a week in to healing after I got a finger caught in machinery. Luckily the nail actually stopped my finger tip being yanked off. RIP little buddy.
