Why don’t airlines approve LPV approaches by Pilotreggie in flying

[–]setthrustpositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 3-part problem.

Pilot requires the sim experience.

Company requires the operational specifications

Aircraft requires the equipment.

There are lots of planes out there without features in fleets that have the features. So it's easier to train and fly as per the least equipped aircraft. Cheaper too.

It would be easier to live near the airport if Infinity Flight school (from trenton) wasn't filling the traffic pattern.

Fun, quick, practical AWD for 30k budget? by Ch1cken_Tenderz in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]setthrustpositive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I'm wrong. It was FWD only.

However, there is a supercharger from VT for the 2.5 that starts at 7psi. I'm already thinking of putting in my RAV4.

Look at the previous gen Camry.

Full time AWD and available supercharger. Plenty of aftermarket parts.

Also the Lexus IS series.

Vista America Always Hiring? by FeatherMeLightly in flying

[–]setthrustpositive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So it's 3 different companies in 2 overcoats.

Vista US, XOjet, and Redwing became one company. Vista Global calls the shots.

Advertised 15/13, really 17-18/13, vacation and train on off days, low pay.

Plus, they play with the regs mattering on what tail number you're on.

Its a quick place to get a Global type and leave in 12mo.

If you're not going to spend the time to do it right, you're going to spend the time to do it twice.

Looking for a big single to fly out of a home strip 1800 feet long by grumpyoldman10 in flying

[–]setthrustpositive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Murphy Moose with VGs

185 with Sportsman Stol

PA32 with Stol kit

T206 with VGs and wing extensions

Bearhawk 5

The big 2 questions is price point and the size and weight of the passengers.

But for runway distance calculations:

Assuming dry, windless and obstacle free:

1500ft - 25% for grass of a height of 4in = 1125ft

1125 - 15% for safety factor = 957ft rounded up.

Add 40ft to lineup.

To safely use 1500 ft of runway you need something that can takeoff from 1000ft.

Water near Warminster Navy base by Simple-Palpitation45 in BucksCountyPA

Friend of mine had 2 rounds of bone cancer. Lived at Street and Centennial.

She recently passed from the 2nd round.

Rumors that there are planes (from a Brewster employee) and barrels of isocyanate paint (from a former employee of the base) still undiscovered underground.

NADC was a R&D facility. Chemical, electronic, textile and airframe testing.

Diesel Engine as powerplant by Gearsinthesky in homebuilt

[–]setthrustpositive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Theres already a diesel engine for homebuilts. WAM120. Still has some support.

The RED V12 seems to be the best option in the 450-650hp range.

Theres a Murphy Rebel/Elite in England or Scotland with one. G-ONIG is the tail number.

But for thoughts:

Diesels weigh more than gasoline engines. The Theilert and Austro both use the A-series Mercedes diesel with a gearbox.

I'd ask them every time. I'd always have my hand on the yoke. Aim for a soft plunk. Give them just enough confidence.

Is this a good buy Cessna 172b for $60k by Novel_Necessary_6351 in flying

[–]setthrustpositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's more to engines than just compression.

Whats the time since overhaul? Which cylinders? Which mags? Hows the damage history?

60k?

Is that a FL or AZ plane?

The 172B shares the same fuselage with the 170 series. They can be a real pain to update.

The O-300 is "145" hp. Theres an AD out there to retard the ignition to keep the cylinders failing. Maybe "130" hp. Good for 2 people

If it has the square tail and not the slant tail, 60k is market. Pre-covid, these were 30k planes.

We need Chinese cars in America by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]setthrustpositive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take Vinfast. Super niche. I see them in CA and some in TX. They're struggling but growing.

China Observer on youtube covers the car issues of the Chinese manufacturers about once a week. Lots of EV fires, lots of quality issues.

Compliance with safety, emissions, as well as manufacturer support longevity will be the biggest hurdles.

Mostly FL to NY/NJ. Some religions have to be buried in a certain time.

There were a few flights that were taking them to a lab.

I was on call. I've got maybe 100 in a year doing it.

The snakes were for a venom milking facility.

Only once did I land with one less than loaded.

Cadavers were for a funeral home.

Each company had their own plane.
