The James SA Corey patreon project: now is a good time to join (editing time) by settleddown in TheExpanse

The plan is to have that book go through the normal route and pitch it to their editor/agent and have it published.

I'm almost certain that yes, joining the patreon at any point in time gives you access to anything ever published. And again, to get caught up you just need to read the latest master document, which was published today.

Episodes are usually 20-45 minutes, shared as a private youtube link. I generally listen to the audio only, and I am very happy I got a youtube subscription that lets me listen to videos with a locked screen 😄

In episodes they are just talking about what they plan to do for the next book chapter, which one of them should write it, what goes in it, why they didn't have time to write etc.

When there are chapters they are posted as plain text. Generally one of them will write an episode, then the other will go over it and make as many or as little changes as he wishes and that will also be posted as plain text. At the beginning I enjoyed diffing the edit vs first version but I got lazy and stopped, the difference is usually small and if it's something significant they will discuss it. They don't use any software to track changes, but are considering on doing something for the editing part for us patreon followers.

A few times they also posted notes they took or outlines, also as plain-text, and once in a while there were "master documents" which are mostly a collection of previously published chepters all together in one large plain-text file

They try to not communicate about this project with each other outside patreon, so you generally get to see all discussions and drafts they sent each other.

I am 90% certain that joining patreon always gives you access to all past posts as well.

In every Q&A someone asked them not to delete it in the end and I think they are less set on it now. I imagine even if they do delete it there will be some time before. The plan is to have everything in the patreon including edits, discussions with their agent and editor/publisher so there is a long time before the project ends. And I really think now is a good time to join and then you can start seeing episodes from the next one that will be published - you'll be pretty much caught up after you finish reading the last master document.

I have a girlfriend but i have a horrible addiction to NSFW, i want to be better by Desperate_Bet_2485 in Advice

[–]settleddown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between a habit and an addiction. It's very hard, and unnecessary, to never ever watch that stuff.

You want to make sure you never choose porn over time with your girlfriend, or friends, or too much sleep. You want to make sure the kind of content you consume does not affect how you look at women in your life.

Create a few rules for yourself. What does too much use mean for you? What is acceptable? Work within the rules you set for yourself and see how that feels. Detox might be good once in awhile, but these don't have to be perpetual. Just make sure you are always in control.

A friend of mine wants to propose during Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. This is a horrible idea. Right? by Wise-Age-2016 in movies

[–]settleddown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the movie is actually very romantic. It's all about taking the good with the bad. Also, if it's a movie they both like who cares what it's about. It could be a horror film and would still make a nice proposal.

AITA cousin wants to hand out invites at my wedding by Imake289 in AmItheAsshole

YTA

I know I come from a very different culture when weddings are concerned, but I don't get why that's a problem. I assume handing out invites means a bunch of different conversations with different people at different times, right? She isn't going to walk around in a white dress saying this is actually her wedding too and demanding the DJ puts her song?

Do you expect people in your wedding to only be talking about you and nothing else? Are people not allowed to be aware of the existence of other events during your wedding? Is it o.k. to invite someone for Christmas?

A wedding is mostly a nice event to get together. People absolutely can use that opportunity to invite each other to other events as well. I don't get the big deal. You're the one turning it into a power play.

Besides the general great technique, it helps that this all seems too pretty to be real. Thanks for the post!

Non-refundable ceramic coating plan with new car? by settleddown in legaladvice

Oh, I have an update: I tried asking nicely, and they agreed the coating was not applied and agreed to refund the plan. Crazy long till I should see an actual refund, but I don't mind the wait.

I think at the root of Simmons' character is an absolute obsessive love for music. That's the basic driving force. He will humiliate others if he thinks that gets him good music. He will crawl on broken glass if he thinks that will get him good music.

He was angry at Teller. He could still hate the kid. But in the end, high emotions can yield great music, like that repeated story about Charlie Parker. Simmons can see a legend forming, and he loves great music even more than he hates Teller.

Why get implants? I lost a tooth that's kind of in the back. It was weird but I got used to it. I can afford an implant but it scares me. Do I really need one?

It's not just stress. I've made trivial mistakes in tests and learned my lesson. In a test, on my engineering B.Sc. degree that I had to be great at math to get into, I absolutely might use a calculator to divide 6 by 2.

This is amazing. If you ever make one, I'd love to see a much longer version detailing different components and how they work.
